Usually I pick either Luigi or Peach, but Toad is very useful too, especially in levels where you can get a lot of coins if you are quick enough. I usually use Toad for certain levels when I want to focus on speed, and Luigi or Peach for everything else. Also, I always play as Peach in the ice levels because Luigi's already slippery controls kind of get ridiculous at that point.

Mario is pretty freaking useless though. This is probably the only Mario game where I never want to play as Mario.

Does anyone else remember eWorld? That was my first experience with the net back in 1992. My mom used it way more than I did though. I didn't start using the net until we got AOL 3.0, and I didn't REALLY start using the net until like 2000 for research and stuff. And I didn't learn how to not be an idiot with computers and the web until around 2004.

Ok I like these voices! And I love the feel of that cutscene! Watching that felt more like a good episode of one of the Sonic TV series, only without the annoying. That is a very good thing! It actually made me feel nostalgic, especially when Sonic broke the fourth wall.

But yeah, the Sonic Adventure voices were ok, and the Sonic X ones weren't bad either, but each one of those had some characters sounding either incredibly annoying, or really off, and I've never liked tails in either one. Tails actually sounds listenable now, so I'm happy. Sonic's voice caught me off guard at first since his voice has kind of been established for a while now, but after hearing it for a bit, I'd say its definitely an improvement! It's not nearly as corny, and it feels more in character somehow. I'm really looking forward to this game now!

Good. I saw the health bar and thought that this might be WAY too easy. I hope it's harder than NSMB. I completely found everything in that game fairly quick. Also, it would be awesome if you have to find stuff again like the DK and Bonus Coins from the old games to open up hidden worlds, the lost world, and the true ending. IMO, that's what really made these games fun.

Pipe Maze used to be my ultimate favorite world! You could get the hammer suit there, the levels were fun, you could get infinite lives in that one castle, it had mazes, and when you cleared the Koopa Kid you got that flashing letter from Bowser that scared the crap out of me the first time I played it! A close second was Castle of Koopa. When I was a kid though, I always found the dark world to be too hard and scary, so I never warped there unless I knew I was prepared with plenty of items.

Now though, Castle of Koopa is definitely my favorite world! Pipe Maze seems too short now, and I've played it to death so the mazes aren't fun anymore. I agree that world 8 does seem unfinished in parts, and I wish there was more to it, but I just love the atmosphere so much! IMO, this is the bowser world modern games have to live up to. When I get to the dark world in any other game, I want it to feel like I've just entered a black hell from which there is no escape. All of the Dark World's we've gotten since have felt way to cheerful to me. I want my sky to be pitch black dammit! Plus you can easily leave them whenever you please. In this game, its like once you've made it to the dark world, you better finish the motherfucker in one sitting because you can't even warp out of there to get more items, and quitting now means starting EVERYTHING over, so Bowser is going down even if it takes all night! Even though I've palyed Castle of Koopa to death by now, to the point where even the super fast airship is easy without a p-wing, it's still loads of fun to play and brings back a lot of memories of trying to get my way through it late at night.

I never liked world 3; I HATED world 3. The music seemed so depressing, your special item was the crappy useless frog suit, you had to deal with that man eating fish in 3-8, Jellyfish in 3-5, and a bunch of other stupid bullshit in every other level. I always used my clouds in world 3 so I could skip as much as possible. The only good thing about it was that you could get a lot of items here, especially once you got the canoe, but the whole world just felt like a depressing chore.

Giant land though was pretty damn fun after that! That was my favorite after worlds 8 and 7 and still is. I always skipped world 5 for the longest time because I thought it was just that one map. It wasn't until I played the sky castle, got to the second map, and fell in love with the tanooki suit and kuribo's shoe that The Sky earned a place in my heart. It still has levels I can't stand though, so it's a love/hate thing. I never did like the ice world because as a kid I thought the slipperier physics made it too hard. I like it better now though just because it's probably the world I know the least, so it has the most replay value.

Grass and Desert are ok, it's just that you play those worlds to death in order to get anywhere so they're nothing special after a while.

Posted on 10-30-10 12:04:44 PM, in Yet another Crazy Dream thread! Link
So yeah I slept for about 11 hours last night (first time in a LONG time I've been able to do that), and I had a bunch of what were probably the weirdest dreams I've ever had in my life, and I already have some pretty crazy dreams on a regular basis. What made these dreams so weird I guess was how I felt during them. It was like I was constantly perceiving opposite things as one thing, things that have nothing to do with each other as opposite sides of the same coin, things that made no sense as normal, and complete insanity and inner peace all at the same time

Here's what little I can remember:

In one dream, our "house" got broken into. It looked more like a wood foundation of a house crossed with a wood cabin that was run down like they had stolen part of the roof, floor, and ceiling. The wood looked nice and new but everything was either stolen or unfinished. There were also 3 layers of wall between the entrance and the back door, sort of set up like an easy maze you just zig zag through. It wasn't a house as much as it was like a large room.

Once we reached the back door, we just stepped outside through the wall since most of it was gone, onto the dirt outside that still had patches of wood flooring. I think this was supposed to be the next room in the house, but EVERYTHING was gone except for some lower patches of wood wall, and bits of the floor. What was really disturbing was that in a big chunk where there should have been floor or even dirt, there was sky. As if the house was actually built 10,000 feet in the air, but what was even weirder is that it was supposed to be evidence that the world was actually reflected, and once you fell down that hole, physics would actually be reversed. I tried to lean over the hole to see if it would eventually lead to the ground or to space, or was just an illusion entirely, but I couldn't lean far enough to see without falling in. Also, while inside the "house" or the first room, it was clearly night, but once we stepped out through the "back door" it was clearly an autumn day with an awesome blue sky and clouds.

*****

In another part, I was at this beach, and time seemed to move fairly quick because I was there at dawn, day, dusk, and night and they all felt like 5 minutes and a whole day at the same time. I was younger here, maybe 15, and in a nightgown, and I think I was supposed to be crazy. I was reminded of Ophelia from Hamlet. People kept looking at me weird. I could tell they all hated me, but I kept trying to be friends with some of them anyway, and I kept hearing voices in my head. I heard one of them laugh and jump into the water, so I jumped in too after them. I heard a voice in my head say "they're not laughing with you, they're laughing at you" and I saw by the disgusted look on his face as he turned around to see me that it was true. I wasn't bothered by any of this though. I didn't really care about the people, I cared about the water. I swam in the water across to the other shore. It was day when I entered the water, dusk as I swam across, and night when I reached the other shore. When I got out of the water, the ocean talked to me and told me that the reason it was so pretty was that it was the night sky, and that all of this time, I had been swimming through the dusk and swimming through the night. Also it told me that the water itself was actually black. It didn't just look that way at night.

So I played on the other shore by the water for a while until I met some other crazy people. A woman and an older man who both looked deformed and mentally challenged. We talked for a while, played and had fun, but then at some point, I didn't feel like I was crazy anymore. I'm back to being 24, normal, and looking down on these other people because I find them creepy. Also its day again now and I remember that I have to be getting home even though its my day off. The guy tries to follow me while the woman runs off. He keeps asking me to help him saying that I'm the only one who can because I'm still normal. I just want to get rid of him, so I give him a scrap of paper and tell him to write down anything he would want on it. That made him happy and he ran off. At this point somehow I start thinking about how chillis used to serve food for free on the beach every Monday, and called it Chilli Mon Mons. I'm reading a flyer that says that this Monday will be the last Chilli Mon Mon. All of a sudden that guy is back and he's asking me If I'll be able to go with him at 5. I say yes, but then remember I have class on Mondays at 5, so I tell him I'll be there at 8. He says 8 is too late and that it should be noon instead. During this conversation, I'm still "normal", but I feel like he's an old friend all of a sudden.

All this time, as I'm going home, think I was on a bus or something because I was talking to another normal woman about the whole situation in between all of this whenever the crazy guy was gone, but all around was more of the dawn/dusk sky with wood framing everywhere like at the house. I think the bus was wood framing too. I don't even know what it looked like, just that we were moving while sitting down through this jumbled mess of wood, dirt, and sky.

Then we came to Georgesville road by 270 and somehow I hear that this guy used my piece of paper as a voucher to get 20 subs from Arbys for forty dollars! I was like "oh no! He wants to use those for Chilli Mon Mons!" So I went into work on my day off to make them, which I guess now was the Georgesville Arbys, and I took them to the beach with the crazy dude. Then I went back to being the crazy girl and we both had fun on the beach all day, and somewhere in the middle of this, I woke up.

****

All this wasn't even half of the crazy dreams I had last night. These are just the two I can clearly remember. All I remember from the other ones are that they were just as nuts and had a similar feel, but they were still completely different.

Ok, does anyone else play SMW hacks on their Wii, and has anyone else been having issues with the sound? I haven't played any in a while, and when I went to try a new one, the sound was glitchy. I tried hacks that I have played through entirely before without issues, and they all had glitched sound. It seems like the only ones having trouble are the ones with custom music though, but I can't figure out what messing it up to save my life. I tried downgrading to older versions of the emulator, but nothing's working. I think it has something to do with ios58 since that's really the only thing that has changed.

Yeah I figured it was because addmusic isn't true to original hardware. I don't care if it sucks though. I like the newer SMW hacks for the most part. After a while all hacks kind of feel the same though, so I only play a few that I few stand out like Essence Star and Second Reality Project Reloaded. Of course, these also happen to have custom music so fsaghsaadsasds.

Anyway I managed to get a temporary fix I guess. I had a NAND backup from before my upgrade to ios58. That along with Snes9xgx 4.0.5 seems to be working for now. I should be able to go higher with the version number. I think all the way to 4.1.7 didn't use ios58, but I wanted to make sure the NAND backup worked first.

I guess the newer versions are just "too accurate" for addmusic to handle.

Well, would you rather have thousands of useful colors laid out in a format that everyone is familiar with making everything easily accessible, or be stuck with our current 216 crappy ass colors that nobody uses. I don't use it either way, so I don't care if it doesn't get implemented due to , but if I had to use a color picker for whatever reason, I would MUCH prefer the one he's suggesting. I always found ours to be ugly and awkward unless I wanted a brownish puke pink as my color

Cool! I don't know if you've read any of the inheritance trilogy, (or quadrilogy now I guess?) but it reminds me of Eragon's picture of Arya. What program did you use? Just photoshop or something like Corel Painter? I want to learn how to do stuff like this.

Oh I knew who who it was. I meant more that it reminded me of the situation. In the book, Eragon is told to create a painting using only magic. It's a very difficult thing to do and no one expects his first painting to look like anything since it takes years and skill to master. What they don't know though is how full of unrequited love Eragon is. Arya is all he can think about. When he's told to created the painting, Arya is standing right there and he's so nervous that he can't even begin to clear his mind. As a result, the painting looks exactly like the image of her that he always sees in his mind. That's what this made me think of. It's your romanticized version of her created from pure emotion. Essentially, it's your mind on paper, which is actually something I wish I could do.

Of course, when Arya saw the painting, it proved that Eragon was head over heels for her, and in response, she smashed the painting and hated him for complicating things He then had to begin the long and arduous process of getting over her and focusing on his true mission in life, so I guess you can relate to that part too.

Posted on 11-02-10 08:59:48 PM, in Happy November Link
This November looks like it's going to be living hell for me, mostly due to my job. We're having a sub sale all month which that alone equals hell. Last sub sale we had, I nearly quit. It's nothing but pure stress from beginning to end, and a lot of stuff happens that you just have to be there in order to believe. Nerves are shot, and a lot of people end up quitting during this time.

Now on top of this, we have this dumbass representative from corporate here all month who thinks that fucking health code violations should be store policy. I'm dead serious! I could be here all day talking about this guy, but suffice it to say he has no idea what he is talking about, and he just likes making a bunch of random rules. Officially, he's supposed to be "training," "getting the store in order," and "enforcing corporate policy". But we actually have a copy of corporate policy, and he tells us to do things that completely go AGAINST what corporate wants us to do. We even show him exactly what his boss sent us, physical fucking proof that he is full of shit, and he responds with something stupid like "oh that's ancient" or "that must be a franchise thing" even when those things have no relevance to the conversation whatsoever. I just hope this douche sticks around long enough to actually have to DO this stupid bullshit he keeps telling us, so he can actually see it all blow up in his face.

Oh, and here's the main thing that proves he's a dumbass. He's trying to say that an obvious health code violation is corporate policy. Basically, all roast must be cooked to 143 degrees. We have an oven that has a thermometer probe plugged in to each roast to ensure that all roasts are cooked to 143 degrees. Apparently, these probes confuse him. He doesn't grasp the concept that the beef are going to finish cooking at different times. Every time one roast is done, even though the others may need another half hour or so to finish cooking, he wants to know why we don't pull them all out and start serving them. Uh, maybe because they are fucking RAW! His defense is that at all corporate owned stores, they just stick one old ass thermometer in one of the roasts, and if that one is at 143 degrees, they just assume that all of them are, without even checking the temperature of the rest. I know for a fact that since these roasts all go in at different times, some could need as much as an extra 2 hours to cook which is why we use the damn probes! Fucking gross. And this is the sort of meat that you don't want to eat medium rare either unless you think that bloody bologna makes a good sandwich that you would pay $5 for. I fucking hate fast food.
