Yeah, but it's frickin Mario Paint. Recreating any well known song without using any flats or sharps is often near impossible.

I like it. I could actually listen to this looping on end for a while and not get bored with it. Great job! I wish I could make something in Mario Paint that was nearly as good.

You know, I'm starting to get into SOME of the newer Sonic games. By these, I mean Sonic Adventure, sonic Adventure 2, and Shadow the Hedgehog. The others I haven't played except for a little bit of Heroes, and Heroes got old real quick. Yes, they are gimmicky as hell, and some times I want to punch the camera in the face for making me die in a way that was totally not my fault, but I find them fun and addicting dammit.

Now, the plots are like "what the?" and rarely have anything to do with the original Sonic plots. They're pretty retarded, and are WAY over the top, but they still keep me interested enough to get into the game for some reason. I agree that the main problem with the two Sonic Adventures is that the only levels that are any fun are the sonic levels. They need to quit inventing all of these new characters that nobody cares about like Big the Cat. I mean seriously?! When I play a Sonic game, I don't want to fish!

But also, Sonic went from being the badass character that he was in the 90s, to somebody that you just want to bitchslap everytime he talks. Although, he is not nearly as annoying as Tails, or Knuckles' raps. And oh, Knuckles, what have they done to you! Knuckles used to be the best character to play as, and now, he pretty much sucks. His levels aren't nearly as fun as Sonic's or Shadow's and they keep trying to make him out to be gangsta with all the retarded rap they keep playing.

If you can get past all of the shittyness though, these games have a TON of replay value, and can be really fun. I got all 130 emblems in Sonic Adventure, although I didn't have nearly as much patience with Sonic Adventure 2. And Shadow the Hedgehog, what can I say? There are 326 different ways you can beat that game, 10 of which are required if you want the true ending. Now I just picked this game up for 2 bucks yesterday, and I mainly got it for the lawls, but DAMN a lot of effort went into that! I think that game is horribly underated. I think it is awesome, and is defintiely the best of the newer Sonic games. Yes, it is definitely NOT your typical Sonic game, but it is fun as hell (literally I guess,) if you can get into the whole dark side thing, and don't mind the plot being really involved once again. Not to mention, the music kicks ass! Songs now have lyrics that I can actually listen to in the car instead of wanting to beat the voice dubber to a bloody pulp. Plus it is actually mixed properly. The Sonic Adventure games annoyed the hell out of me because the music kept drowning out anything you wanted to hear.

And yes, I grew up with all of the original Sonic games. They are no doubt the best, and will always be the best, but I've also accepted that that period of Sonic gaming is long dead. Sonic is never going to be that way again. Of course, I've also never had a problem with Sonic Team when they wanted to try something new even then. Sonic 3D blast for example, I actually really liked, especially it's music. I think their main problem though is that they keep focusing WAY TOO MUCH on new changes. Like it's been said, the only thing gamers want from Sonic is the old style. They don't want anything new. However, I think some of the newer additions, when actually given a chance, work pretty well when it comes to updating the franchise. For instance, I can waste hours on end just with the Chao alone, or just blasting shit with Shadow's guns. And certain moves like the light speed dash are intergrated into classic Sonic play now.

But gamers need to realize that these games are and always have been MARKETED TOWARD KIDS! They are not marketed towards hardcore gamers. Quit expecting a kick ass game! The only exception was Shadow the Hedgehog, and that was hated more than all the others until the 360 one. But people seem to have forgotten that even back in the 90s, Sonic was geared toward kids. The only difference was that back then, the kids WERE the hardcore gamers. Now, kids are mainly casuals, so that's what the games are going to market.

All that said though, I'm not fond of Secret Rings or Black Night simply because the whole storybook concept seems EXTREMELY kiddish, and the plots are nothing more than sticking Sonic into Arabian Nights or King Arthur. I actually prefer my Sonic games to have some sort of continuing plot to them. I agree though, that the plots have gotten out of hand in terms of the depth. Half of the time it doesn't even make sense. But I don't care, I still enjoy them.

TL;DR Yes, I agree they are shitty, but I still enjoy some of them.

Well yeah, I know the program can do sharps and flats, but the original game on the SNES can't. I thought that was the feel you were going for. Too bad it won't play on an actual SNES due to some of the extra notes though.

Oh the song is fine the way it is.

All I meant by the extra notes thing was that if you were to recreate this song on the original SNES instead of the program, there are a few places where it wouldn't work because too many notes are played at once. All I meant was that Mario Paint can only play 3 note chords.

The song is fine the way it is.

Changing everything to 3 note chords would probably make the song sound worse. You can try it if you want a challenge though, but it really depends on whether or not you care if this song can play on an actual console.

So about 3 days ago, all of a sudden, it seems like my computer is taking a long time to process things. It isn't unbearably slow, but it is a noticible decrease in performance. For instance, when I play something in winamp, it will sound like it is constantly rebuffering even when I'm not doing anything else at the time but playing a song. Copying files takes longer, as well as burning disks, and a virus scan that I started 8 HOURS ago is still taking it's sweet time. It also takes it longer to boot up. Even having multiple windows open seems to be too much for my system to handle.

I'm running a pretty recent setup. Windows XP, Intel Duo Core, 3gb ram, without a bunch of shit running in the background so I know I'm not low on system resources. I'm defragmenting my drives in case that's the problem, but it hasn't been that long since they were last defragmented. I'm also checking for viruses and other malware, but I don't think I'm infected. With both cases, it's taking FOREVER to complete any 1 scan, so I don't know right now if either is the culprit or not. It's also been a while since I last reformatted. I may be due for one soon in order to clean out alot of clutter. However, if I can put that off for another month or two it would make my life A LOT easier. I've also dusted out the tower, (which I do pretty regularly anyway,) and checked to make sure that nothing was running too hot.

I don't know if it is related, but for a while now before the slowdown, I've been getting this error message at startup

When I first got this message, I stopped overclocking my CPU in case that was wearing it out or something. I have an ASUS motherboard with an automatic overclocking feature. I turned it on 20% for a while to try it out, but I admit that I know next to nothing about overclocking. Don't know if that may have negatively affected my CPU or not.

Anyway, any thoughts on what may be causing the slowdown?

I'm thinking it's the CPU too. It was overclocked for a while. A few months at least, maybe longer. I didn't think about the bad side to that at the time. But I've had overclocking turned off for about the same amount of time, and I'm only just now starting to get problems. I turned it back on again for just a few minutes to see if that would improve anything. No change so I turned it back off.

If my CPU is failing, then I assume I need to buy a new CPU. What would you suggest that is decent performance right now but is still pretty affordable? Also, though I've upgraded nearly every part in my computer, I've never completely built one from scratch before, so there are a few things that I am still uncomfortable with changing out. The CPU is one of them. Is there a tutorial somewhere that would show me how to switch out my CPU without borking anything? BTW, my motherboard is an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe.

Hey, you might be right. I found LoveFly.dll in my system folder. I'm scanning just my system folders now to see if it finds the rest. Looks like its pretty simple to get rid of. I'll let you know if this solves the problem.

Edit: Ran a full scan of my C drive with avast at boot. I'm no longer getting that error message, but things still seem like they are taking longer than usual. It's better than it was though.

I prayed for her too. I'm really close to my grandmother too and I don't know what I would do if she were in that situation. I hope everything works out.

As for hospitals, that one reminds me of one we have around here, Doctor's West. Hospitals like that you avoid like the plague! I've heard nothing but horror stories from there, and some of them we nearly expirienced ourselves. Like one time my mom was there for a broken foot, and the stupid idiots, not caring and not paying attention, were about to wheel her off to chemotherapy! Luckily we realized what they were doing and stopped them.

I fucking hate doctors and hospitals in general. It's like through the process of medical school, all of their compassion is replaced with apathy. But you got to do what you got to do. Hopefully there is a better hospital in your area. In any case, if someone I cared about was in one, I'd make sure that somebody was there with them 24/7 to make sure the hospital doesn't fuck up! Excrutiating pain is no joking matter, and it pisses me off when the doctors don't even care that someone is in it.

Yeah, I need to do that anyway. I have a lot of junk I need to clean off, and some programs I'd like to do a clean update on. However, that would be a major pain in the ass right now. It's running well enough now to where I can actually get some school work done on it. I'm probably going to use it as is until I can get around to reformatting the whole thing.

I'm just glad it looks like my CPU isn't failing after all. That would have really been a pain since I can't really afford a new one right now, or the loss of my computer. BTW thanks Joe! How did you know it was that specific virus? Is that error message an indicative sign of it or something?

Oh, I also went through the typical phase where I was convinced that I was the adopted child, and my little sister was the favorite child. I think it first started when I realized that my sister's birth was on tape and yet mine wasn't. I was convinced that my parents were part of some weird conspiracy against me.

I was also fascinated with the crucifixion as a kid. I really don't know why, but I had a thing for going through all of our bible books, and drawing blood on Jesus on the cross.

I also found out about sex pretty early on, but I didn't really know anything about it. For one thing, a friend of mine told me that if you weren't completely naked it wouldn't work. I also though that a penis could grow so big that it could actually enter my brain. I must have thought that my body was made of play dough or something. I also though it was possible to have sex with a barbie doll.

You know, I think I was a fucked up kid.

Oh, and I also thought that the sonic chaos emeralds were hidden throughout my neighborhood and in my house. And that one of them actually powered my computer.

Okay, then how come even as a kid, I liked shows from generations that were long before mine. Even now I can watch show from 50+ years ago that I had never seen before, and never appealed to me, and STILL think they are better than anything on television now. As for Sonic the hedgehog, I hated that show even as a kid. I liked the SATAM one better just because it was darker. I still like things that are on the dark side.

Most shows that I watched as a kid, I still watch. Not for the nostalgia, but because they were actually good shows! Shows that only have nostalgia appeal get old quick. I never grew out of kids television, kids television outgrew me by increasingly lowering its standards to the farthest level. Hell, compare the actual Disney movie classics that were actually based on fairy tales like Snow White, Cinderella, Little Mermaid, or even Alladin and Lion King, and compare them with their sequels. There is a reason why the classics are classics and the knockoffs are knockoffs. All of the sequels have the same exact plot but with different characters switched out. They are generic $10 churn outs that are guaranteed to cash in on the original because they target kids and the kids don't know any better. The originals each had a unique storyline that pushed the art style at the time to the next level, and were designed to be masterpieces. Disney just doesn't have any heart anymore. And keep in mind, those movies were before my time, so the nostalgia value argument is moot.

Plus, even as a kid, I noticed when my shows turned to shit. Look at Doug and Rugrats. Awesome when they first came out, but as soon as they switched ownership, even though I didn't know the full reason why, I just knew that they sucked now. And no, I didn't outgrow them. At that time, Hey Arnold was still new and I watched it religiously until it too suffered a similar fate.

Hell, look at Star Trek. The one that holds nostalgia for me isn't the original series, but actually TNG. I watched this all the time as a kid. I watch it now though not for nostalgia, (sometimes I even forget I ever watched it as a kid,) but because it's a damn good show, and I get a lot more out of it now. I never watched the original at all growing up, but even though it looks horribly outdated now, I still recognize that it is a great show and watch it all the time too.

Take any old school show that aired on Nickeloedon in the early 90s that you have never heard of until now and watch it. You will feel no nostalgia toward it whatsoever, but I guarantee you will find it a hell of a lot better for kids than what they are watching today. Or hell, it's probably better than the shows on now geared toward adults.

tl;dr It's not us growing older. Society has just declined.

So apparently GivesMeHope.com started their own version of Google, only this one donates to charity everytime you use it.

http://www.givoogle.com/

So far, the search engine itself really does seem exactly like google. At least, enough to where it won't annoy me if I switch. I think this is potentially a very good idea. If your everyday web browsing can either raise money for charity, or do nothing, then why not use the one that raises money for charity?
