I just want to add that in addition to that error, if I choose to ignore it and continue, nothing happens when I import. I chose to put my OBJ file in place of Bob-omb Battlefield. Once the import is complete and I play the game, nothing's changed, and Bob-omb Battlefield is just as it originally was still. Very confusing. The file is 2mb though, is it because it's too big?

FYI I'm trying to port a level from Sonic Adventure DX. Is it because there's probably too many more polygons or something? I tried changing the scale of the whole object in Blender, seems to consistently stay at 2mb though so I'm not sure what else I can do.

Yes, a model from that game is far too much for SM64 to handle. It would simply freeze if the whole thing was imported. Shrinking the model does not change the file size at all, since no more space is used to change the positions each polygon is drawn at. The file size is based on how many polygons there are and texture mapping positions etc. You could try removing sections of the level you don't want, but by the time you've removed enough you probably will have little of the level left anyway.

BTW, is there a size limit that can be accepted for OBJ files, or my main concern is just reducing polygons? Some levels I can't get imported in I'm wondering if it's just because it's too vast a level, or the poly count still needs to be reduced.

Your levels can go 24000 by 24000, but only a 16000 by 16000 block in the middle can be walked in by Mario. Outside of it are the invisible boundaries of the level, although you can have things poking 8000 out the side of them (if that made any sense).

I've tried changing model offset X,Y and Z values, and change scaling. No matter how high the numbers, the level continues to be at the very bottom and doesn't appear to move or be affected at all my the numbers I put in. By the time Mario lands the camera moves away and won't let me see down there. What can I do so I can actually land on the level at the proper height?

Are you sure you are trying high enough scaling settings? Just adding one or two to the scaling does not make any difference, try setting it to 400 or 4000.

SM64 Star Road - Melting Snow Peaks (Major Hack P6)

With 7 complete levels and various others well toward completion, Star Road has come quite far now and has 43 finished stars out of the planned 121. The level in the video is Melting Snow Peaks, possibly my favorite so far.

The mod-boss at the end is quite tricky, so I barely even get a chance to show him before I get kicked off the map .

Hope you enjoy the preview, and I appreciate any feedback!

Thanks, I try to make every star as interesting as possible : ).

Metalman (assuming you will read this), is it ok if I make a thread for sm64 star road? I ask this because there are a fair few previews now, and i'd like to group them together.

Thanks for mentioning that. While I was busy adding in coins and trees I felt something was missing, but i just ignored it.

I've added a fair few enemies now, hopefully enough to fix those plain bits.

Since I reinstalled windows I have been having a problem with MIDI's not playing. If I open a MIDI in WMP it works fine, but if I open a program like Cakewalk Studio or a game that uses MIDI's, not sound is played. Strangely though, I found that a MIDI works in these programs if I open them and THEN open WMP, which causes WMP not to play the MIDI and for the broken sound to work (confusing).

I've been putting up with this for afew months but I'm getting sick of it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I actually get the same problem, too.
Mine is just caused by nothing more than my sucky audio card.
Have ya tried going to your sound settings down in the right side of the task bar and turning up the volume on your midi device?
For me, I have to be doing this a lot, but it does solve the problem.
Not sure if there's any way you can get it to stop doing that, though.

Poor me, I get a whole bunch more midi problems than just that...

Actually, that turned out to be the problem : P. I never thought to try that though because volume control doesn't show up down there, i can only get to it through the start menu.

In almost every level I'm having an annoying problem where the imported music stops playing after any other sound effect is played (eg. sign post, star appears. You can see this glitch in the Bob-Omb Island Video). If anyone knows how to fix this i'd greatly appreciate it.

So my question is, do anyone of you know how to fix this? as I'm not that experienced in all this yet. I have tried redownloading Toads tool and using different roms, so maybe my model is the source of the problem.

When you get a level like that it is still editable. The only problem is you have to import it without the textures from the mtl file while editing it, then re-import it with textures after you are done.

SM64 Star Road - Bob-omb Battle Factory (Major Hack P7)

This preview of SM64 Star Road I'll be showing you the second of the 4 levels I completed after Melting Snow Peaks. Since MSP my level design skills have increased very much, and the 3 other levels are equally good as this otherwise better.
There are now 10 of 15 levels complete in the Star Road master rom, and after the next 5 I'll be working on the side levels followed by the main hub.

Also, I apologize for the video quality. I am trying to upgrade my PC so you don't have to put up with it any more.

SM64 Star Road - Sandy Slide Secret (Major Hack P8)

This time I am showing you a side level I made for my upcoming hack Super Mario 64 - Star Road. I am putting just as much effort into side levels as any main level. Since Bob-omb Battle Factory I have made this, the second boss (which is not bowser), and have nearly finished the 11th main level. I have started trying to blend classic SM64 level style with my free-roam style levels, and the result it quite nice.

I have been putting many difficult 1ups for all you TAS and non-TAS experts out there, so you can look forward to lots of new challenges weather you are a normal player or a hardcore player.

Looks like a good start to your hub. I think you should straiten out the textures on the roof, and also delete the unused faces underneath them so Mario doesn't fall through the ground. You could probably scale the textures smaller without any troubles, too.

SM64 Star Road - Retro Remix Castle (Major Hack P9)

This SM64 Star Road preview is a Super Mario World themed castle called
Retro Remix Castle which is in the Star Road rom as the second Bowser course.

The boss beyond the red door is complete, but I decided not to show it to reduce spoilers. I'll tell you one thing though: Boss 1 and 2 are not Bowser . Enjoy!

This is the last side level i'll take a preview of, and there may be one more main level preview.

Just patch "MonochromeMario64.ppf" and not the "obj_import6.ppf" file as it's already patched in.

EDIT: When C3 over at SMWCentral ends. If any of you vote for me, I promise I'll make something for the next C3 event

Very unique, i like it! If you wanted to go further with the monochrome theme, you could use tile molester to make the menus and fonts black/white too.
