Download play works 100% without the firmware. I'm wondering now if there is a way to make other sprite/tile sets work, or even music. I will start experimenting.

(From your hex editing tutorial. I cannnot get it to work)

Download the level here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MHB5QOXD

It is world 1-1 for multiplayer. Please put it into the multiplayer SMB 1-1 level and make it work. Thanks!!!

hehe, that was the very first thing i did. I've already set up and played through all of world 1 in multiplayer .

Here are things from single player that seem to freeze it:
-flagpoles
-checkpoints
-star coins
-zones
-multiple views
-some weird sprites
-end castle

The levels are still imperfect, so i'll edit them a little more then i can upload them. There aren't more then one erea in them of course, though. I may be able to stretch the view out to include all areas in the one area if you get what i mean.

In the first rom, i have imported each level 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-T and 1-4 in order. I have made a folder on my flash card called "NSMB Multiplayer Hack" with folders in it called things like "1-1 to 1-4" or "1-5 to 2-2" and a rom inside each.

I'll try and get around to making an ips patch some time soon. At the moment, i'm a little busy and i also need to work on my SM64 hack.

Super Mario 64 - Star Road (Preview 2)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArocmGt5Ujk

This video shows you the first section of the main hub which will be in SM64 Star Road. There will be four main parts of the hub, with bowser's castle being the last. The large stone gate you see in the video leads to the second part of the hub, which you unlock after defeating the first boss (There will be a locked door on it). Note that this section of the hub is not yet in its final stage, and will be much more interesting once finished (I am also thinking of changing the house textures). I am now putting a good 8 hours+ in to each level, to ensure a very high quality, and making them polygon by polygon.

This video also plays the title screen music.

The level from the last preview is unlikely to be included. It is too blocky and i didn't put much thought into each star (It was my very first model in blender any way). Instead i will be making a new level with a similar theme to it.

I have my doubts about it working. I'm more familiar with ips, and i am positive it will work correctly. By the way, i just uploaded a new preview of my SM64 hack in case you are into SM64 hacking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArocmGt5Ujk).

Thanks, that's the feel i'm trying to give it. I want it to feel less like a hack and more like a propper original N64 game.

I am using Blender. I like it because it is very custom, although a little harder then GS. I'm guessing you are mostly talking about the house textures, which i plan on fixing.

As for the custom music, don't waste your time using mml2m64, I have been working on a new music tool which will make things way, WAY easier.

Then i'll be looking forward to it .

SM64 Star Road - Bob-Omb Island (Preview 3)

Sorry it's been a while since the last update, but finally, here is another preview video. This video shows you Bob-Omb island, which is to be the first level in sm64 star road. It is based on an island area next to a sunken ship where the bob-ombs are having another battle. I have also picked out some good, fitting music to import in and selected the appropriate instruments. I am still stuck on what music to use for boss battles, though. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Enjoy! And please give feedback!

It is important to make sure there are no unused faces directly under any ground, otherwise you will fall through. There is alot more detail to this and exeptions etc but it's better if you just experiment (if this is actually the problem)

Somthing else that somtimes causes fall-through faces is having the level set to "death on bottom". I'm unsure why, but there are times when it gives me collisio issues.

Set faces to single sided.

Make sure the white face is on top, blue underneath. (Likely if your faces are invisbled AND walk-through)

Do not have massive amounts of polygons in the level (That means NO circles or spheres . Use a hexagon instead.)

Try not to group lots of faces facing different directions together in a small space.

Good luck .

1: You can't
2: You can't

Both of these things have to be done using a hex editor. (There are probably some specific objects that work in TT64 only because they are made that way.)

Once you have changed the title you can still play it but it is not editable in TT64, so make it the very last thing you do. When changing the title, make sure you don't add any new letters and just overwrite the ones already there. Very conveniently for me, "SM64 Star Road" has the exact same amount of characters as "SUPER MARIO 64" (14). Replace unused characters with spaces eg: 4D 36 34 48 41 43 4B 20 20 20 20 20 20 (This reads as SM64HACK followed by 6 spaces).

SM64 Star Road - Sky Land Resort (Major Hack P4)

Here is the next preview for the upcoming major hack "Super Mario 64 - Star Road". The are currently 3 fully complete and confirmed levels in the master rom with a total of 21 stars. I have also been working on the hub and two other levels which are still in the making.

This video shows me *attempting* to get the 8 red coin star in "Sky Land Resort" level. It has imported music from SMRPG Nimbus Land. I bet you will love the theme of this level ! Enjoy, and please give all your feedback/suggestions!

SM64 Star Road - Lagoon Side Hideout (Major Hack P5)

After yet another two months, here is a video of the fifth fully finished level in SM64 Star Road (two you have not seen). Rather then the usual plan, i decided to go for a normal star and show off the level on the way rather then grab all the red coins.

Lagoon side hideout is the first water based level of the game. There is also a minor glitch I'm trying to find a fix for which has snow coming from trees instead of leaves (because i imported over Cool Cool Mountain).

One last thing: sorry for posting yet another bright, sunny level. Since all the levels I am working on now after this are not the same type of level (desert, ghost house, snow, lava) you should be seeing something different next time. Regardless, the next video I'm uploading for Christmas is not at all bright and sunny .

Enjoy, and please leave feedback!

fwiw, I guess we won't see some of those fancy asm hacks like in Missing Stars, will we?
Anyway keep up the work, I remember you posting some other smaller levels here but giving up due to the immaturity of the hacking tools.. nice to see you getting along that great now

Unfortunately I lack the asm skills of frauber, but i still have some neat little behavior modifications i can make or work out (i made whomp king nice and tricky).

Looks splendid Celux, you and Lugmillord (on YouTube) seem to be doing great!

How are you dealing with camera problems? I've played the demo of Super Mario 74 (by Lugmillord) and camera was very problematic in some levels. A good advice is to experimenting replacing the same level in many spots: each level has its own hardcoded camera settings, so its important to experiment with this.

Also, I'm digging the work you have done on the music, have you been using the XML importer?

For camera problems I am simply making sure to leave enough space for the camera to be able to turn around. In a cave area in my forest level, there is water surrounding the path so you cannot get close enough to the wall for the camera to go through.

I'm varying between the two music importers depending on which sounds better for the particular midi. The bobmberman 64 music is done with the original importer. I'm also having to hex edit drums into some of the musicxml .m64 files, since the option for instrument 127 isn't there and 10 is often not a proper drum set.

SM64 - Christmas Carnival Special (Download)

Since you have been waiting for Star Road over a year now, I decided it would be nice to give you a taste of the kind of level design that will be in the finished hack without spoiling anything. I have done this by, rather then releasing a demo (which i will not be doing), creating a completely new level for you to try out (not attached to SR in any way) as a small but fun Christmas themed treat. The hack contains 3 stars of varying difficulty. Enjoy, and merry Christmas!
