Playing Team Fortress 2, and starting to feel like I've not improving. Over the 18 years I've been playing FPS games, I've never really played seriously. Sure, I played Catacomb 3D and Wolfenstein 3D when they first came out, and that's the only reason I can say I've "been playing them over 18 years". Played a smattering of games, on and off, since. Never really been good at any of them. I think I need something to help me pick up some of the general… skills. Although I do really enjoy setting the Scout on fire. -------------------- |

Well, the whole theory about why this is being pushed through is to appease the Family First (Christian Right) people, in particular. Stupid Steve Fielding. -------------------- |

Far too young. Not much older than me, in fact. Wonder what happened? Article I read wasn't very clear on the whole matter… -------------------- |

I still haven't played a full hour as any one class. By your logic, X, I am NOT a sad person, yet I feel like a n00b. I guess it depends where you stand, doesn't it?-------------------- |

Never done it. Once signed up on a permabanned person's website, in order to troll. Was mistaken for a very angry man. Apparently "angry me" doesn't come across as "angry woman", it comes across as "sad, lonely, geeky, angry virgin-man". -------------------- |

Holidays suck. That said, I'm just bitter because I'm thousands and thousands in debt. As for your story, it also sucks. That's not to say it's a bad story: it's not, I mean I empathise: if I were in your position I'd say it sucks too. Can't really imagine what it's like beyond sucking. Some... advice, or... something. Any services in the area for people with disabilities and work? I know there are some down here in the arse end of the earth, and I'm hoping there are some there: it might really help. There may be something for instance that your Mum can do when she's at home, during the winter. Something where her workplace respects her abilities and limitations and lets her work within them. That's what you need when you have limitations: someone who actually understands and doesn't dump shit on you because of them. Wish I could be more helpful than that. Good luck with things. Hope your Christmas works out well despite this shit. Big hugs. ![]() -------------------- |

Without said Government thing, I don't think there's much here either: unfortunately, it was hard enough for me to find what's available here, and I've no idea what may be available there. Um... is there a Government Department there that might be worth asking? Here, the DWA (Disability Works Australia) works with our State Government to make it work. -------------------- |

That said, disability services seem to be virtually unknown to people: as I said, I had to ask a LOT of questions to a LOT of people before I even knew it existed. Hopefully there are people like this out there in your city too. And hopefully they have a better promotion/marketing/public relations arm than the people in mine: the ones here WANT to be seen, but seem to be virtually invisible. ![]() -------------------- |

I am now quite sick from the absinthe. As for its aniseed flavour, it's not so bad if you have it properly. The one time a friend of mine gave me a shot of pure absinthe to try, it was AWFUL. You don't drink the absinthe by itself. You need a sugar cube, and ice water. There are two ways to drink the absinthe. The Bohemian/Czech method which is more modern: the sugar cube is soaked in the absinthe, and then placed on an absinthe spoon above the absinthe and set on fire. There are a number of things you can do from there (including letting the cube set the absinthe itself on fire), but last night the cube was allowed to burn out and the sugar caremelised, before it was dropped back into the absinthe, topped up with more absinthe, and then the drink is topped up with ice water. You don't have it without the ice water, and seldom have it without the sugar. For the French variation, you don't burn the cube, it sits on top the absinthe spoon, and iced water is very slowly dripped onto the cube, which dissolves and drips into the absinthe, causing a cloudy white appearance. The sugar reduces the bitter taste and improves the flavour. Drinking neat absinthe has always been considered "socially unacceptable" amongst absinthe drinkers. Historically, people who drink their absinthe neat are alcoholics or desperate. -------------------- |

Australia's not TOO bad as far as these things go. To go with the broken leg thing, I know if I were to break my leg I would be back home with a cast and medication by the day's end, and without a massive bill to show for it. It's where you get into elective surgery, specialists, and long-term health conditions that our system starts to get a bit frustrating. If you require an elective surgery, waiting times can be quite long, and private surgery costs a lot of money. Finding specialists can also be difficult: we just don't seem to have enough of certain types of specialists, like psychiatrists, that you can go see, and costs for seeing them are high. Our system is far from perfect, but if we're going with the emergency-room scenario, I feel confident that if I were to hurt myself badly, I would be attended to quickly and without breaking my bank. -------------------- |

I shouldn't be allowed to play Garry's Mod. I get bored. I do stupid things. Stupid, stupid, stupid things. Seriously. This is an abomination. And I'm not even into yaoi: just imagine how much worse it would be if I were! -------------------- |
