From Australia, it appears that citizens of the United States have very strange attitudes towards Government. I mean, I get the impression there's some kind of fanatic cult around the President, but no-one trusts (or wants to give any money to) the rest of the Government to get anything done.
Of course, this impression is all pieced together from your fabulous exports: Michael Bay films, television, and internet trolls. --------------------

We don't do a lot in Australia for Halloween but a few people did some trick or treating, and there are a few Halloween parties.
Of course, I'm not doing anything. We're at home watching Hellraiser III, which is a silly, silly movie. Horror movies are pretty ridiculous. This series seems to be particularly ridiculous. --------------------

The Hellraiser series, at least the two films I've seen now, is very silly.
That said, the effects are really dated, and the idea of hell dimensions really doesn't interest me a lot. I suppose this might have been more interesting when the ideas were newer and the effects less dated. Of course, the same can be said for a lot of cinema. --------------------

I find the Twilight series rather distasteful, personally.
Between the bizarre interpretation of Vampire lore to the abstinence agenda it just kind of irks me. Right from Dracula, a lot of the vampire appeal has been in its disturbing psychosexual nature. Removing that aspect of things (as well as things like sparkling) really messes it up for me. --------------------

BMP has never been a "web standard".
GIF is still useful in some some situations, and I still use it. That said, I still develop for Internet Explorer 6—I wish I didn't have to, but there are still lots of people that use it within the corporate and government sectors. That means when I develop something I have to test it through IE6, IE7, and IE8, as well as Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. No prizes for guessing which of those browsers gives me the most trouble. And yes, I know I can use things like Belated PNG Fix, but sometimes it's not worth adding a whole bunch of JavaScript to a website just for one image you can set as a gif instead… APNG will take a while before it's used by most, for much the same reasons I still tend to avoid PNG. --------------------

For some stupid reason, MSN is the most popular Instant Messaging service in Australia.
Which, frankly, shits me. I hate MSN. Very unreliable. I mean, sure, it doesn't make much difference to me (I use Adium and have all the different protocols set up), but MSN has the most problem connecting, or sending messages. Very unreliable system. --------------------

Since I've had a laptop, I've preferred to use my laptop.
I'll use a desktop for work, but when I'm home I tend to use my MacBook Pro. Horsepower? I gots it. This ain't no lightweight as far as processing power. That said, it's coming up about three years since I bought it, and it's about time I considered a replacement for it. But that happens with all computers. --------------------

Nah, too complex, too much of a pain in the arse.
I'd rather see the xhtml validation errors here fixed. ![]() --------------------

You know, just add this to the header, and the board actually passes HTML5 validation (with warnings)
<!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> etc… --------------------

Validation is very important. For one thing, not specifying character encoding can even lead to security vulnerabilities
It also helps your website work consistently across browsers. As for the HTML4 vs HTML5 argument, the only reason I specified HTML5 is that it's a lot easier to make this website validate in HTML5, some four or five errors, compared to three hundred… I was just going the path of least resistance. It would take significantly more work to make the Acmlmboard validate as XHTML or even HTML 4.01 Transitional. ![]() And hey, HTML5 simplifies a lot of things like the Doctype and Language greatly. I mean, which are you more likely to remember (and be able to type correctly by hand)? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> Or <!DOCTYPE html> Plus, if a project wants to be taken seriously in the web development world and not laughed at outright, it should validate ![]() --------------------
