HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
I'm bad: I've texted while driving. Not actively while I'm sort of.. going... but I will squeeze words in at traffic lights.

That said, it's never been social texting. It's "running late" or 'traffic is terrible, be there soon'. I don't text just to shoot the breeze.

Apple? Transparent? They've never been that.

Good to know Jobs is back at work. I hope he's taking it easy though: it can't be easy recovering from a liver transplant.

You better not have cut me off inadvertently while driving! >

No, no cutting people off. Like I said, it's done at red traffic lights. I might have been a bit slow to take off once, god knows that's a terrible sin.

I don't do it while the car is actually MOVING, and if someone else is in the car, I'd make them send the "running late" or "traffic bad" message.

Congratulations!

Man, i wish I could do that again. I was put on Efexor for depression and you know all that weight I lost? I put it all back on And it won't move, it's stuck to me, stuck!!

The trick will be keeping it off too. If you can teach me that trick by the time I lose the 77lbs I need to lose...

HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
Seems OK. Personally I'm not a big fan of high-contrast colours like that now that computers are capable of far more nuance; but if you're going for a retro look that's fine.

I hope you have set up a font stack in your CSS in case people don't have Lucida Bright.

HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
Yeah, I think it's one of the Windows (possibly Microsoft Office) fonts.

I have a stack set up here:

font-family: "Helvetica Neue", "Helvetica", "Arial", sans-serif;

So, if people have Helvetica Neue, they will see that, but if not, then Helvetica... and if not that, then Arial, then after that I frankly don't give a damn what they see.

Full disclosure: I'm on a Mac, I couldn't see Lucida Bright.

HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
Cool. Doing so ultimately gives you more control of what happens if someone doesn't have a particular typeface.

And it turns out that I do have Lucida Bright, but it wasn't activated.

This paragraph should appear in either Garamond, Hoefler Text, Palatino, or Palatino Linotype depending on what you've got installed on your computer.

EDIT: And I'd lean towards using Georgia instead of Arial, if you are going to stick with a serifed font like Lucida Bright.

Lucida Bright, Didot, Georgia, Big Caslon?

Georgia is available by default on Windows and on Mac, it's considered one of the true "safe" web fonts.

HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
I was born at around 1am on the 10th of December, 1980.

I know I was born hours after the death of John Lennon. John Lennon was shot outside the Dakota at 10.50pm on the 8th of December 1980. In Australia it was around 3:30pm on the 9th of December, and Mum remembers hearing about John Lennon's shooting while she was in labour with me.

Would have put a damper on things, I imagine.

HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
Strictly speaking, that blue doesn't have a strong enough luminosity contrast ratio to pass muster when it comes to readability.

That means it fails accessibility testing, and that is why people will complain it's difficult to read.

I took the hue you're using, adjusted the luminosity, and the darkest blue you can get away with (on black) to get a luminosity of over 5.00 is:

#6676FA This is the darkest blue that passes luminosity contrast testing, and should therefore be readable against black.

The best feature is the cute kitty that lives there. Although right now she is attacking my feet.

I don't think I have a picture of the bathroom, but I do have Crayon Bubblebath.

Posted on 10-28-09 09:50:26 PM, in Google have launched a Music Search. Link
HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
“Now, when you enter a music-related query — like the name of a song, artist or album — your search results will include links to an audio preview of those songs provided by our music search partners MySpace (which just acquired iLike) or Lala. When you click the result you’ll be able to listen to an audio preview of the song directly from one of those partners. For example, if I search for [21st century breakdown], the first results provide links to songs from Green Day’s new album. MySpace and Lala also provide links to purchase the full song.

Many times, though, you don’t know the name of the song or the artist who sings it. Maybe you remember only the chorus — or maybe you remember who sang it, but you forgot the exact name of the song. If you’ve ever heard a catchy song in a car or cafe, but just can’t figure out the name of the song, you’ll know what I’m talking about. This search feature also helps you find many of those songs by entering a search containing a line or two of lyrics. So if I search for [static silhouette somehow], I’ll get results for Phoenix’s song “Rome.”

Ehh… I'm going to possibly offend, but I don't… really think the AcmlmBoard system is that great. It's great for hobbyists, it's cute, and fun, but I wouldn't even consider it for a professional project.

HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
Earliest I remember was in about 1986, and it was an Amstrad.

Best I can determine is that it was a Amstrad PC-1512.

  • Ours had two 5 1/4" floppy disks
  • NO HARD DRIVE
  • Ran at a whopping Intel 8086 @ 8 MHz
  • CGA display, a whole 16 colours at 640x200
  • Loud bleepy bloopy PC speaker
  • A MOUSE
  • A mega-massive 512K of RAM

Everything was run from four very floppy disks, a red, yellow, green, and blue one. And we had all the amazing software of the magical world:

  • Microsoft MS DOS 3.2 Operating System
  • Digital Research GEM (Graphics Environment Manager) plus GEM Desktop
  • Digital Research GEM Paint
  • Digital Research DOS Plus (runs MS DOS and CP/M-86 Applications)
  • GEM based Locomotive BASIC 2

It was aaaamaaaaaaaaaazing. OK, fine, I just spent my time in GEM Paint, BASIC and playing the impossibly-difficult (for a five year old) Prince of Persia.

But it would also need to have security and interoperability that I've found this platform lacking. Not to mention that I can't just hand over an Acmlmboard to another developer…

It's not that I dislike it, it's that I have to consider something else for any project where I'm likely to be paid.

HEY CAN YOU SEE ME
My life is a convoluted mess.

I was born to a fairly regular family. I had a Mum and a Dad, and a little brother. We had a dog.

Dad was sick, and it became more apparent as I grew up. From the age of 7 I watched dad go into and out of hospital on a regular basis. He lost his toes, fingers, kidneys, a leg, and eventually his life due to diabetes-related complications.

I was bullied all through school. Having all of this going on at home makes you a bit "weird".

My father died when I was 14, and my maternal grandfather died later that year. I became Depressed. This wasn't diagnosed at the time.

At 16 I was raped by a family friend, and I turned to drugs and alcohol to shut off my brain.

At 17 my paternal grandfather died. I wound up in my first abusive relationship. I was isolated from friends and family and abused socially, emotionally, and financially. My only "escape" was the Internet.

At 21 I ran away from there when he was at work. He stalked me for at least ten weeks after. I was diagnosed with Major Depression.

I fell into another abusive relationship—let's face it, I was vulnerable and exactly what a predator looks for—and so began another three or so years of abuse.

His abuse was far more extreme and I was physically abused, raped, malnourished, and mistreated. At the end of the relationship I had also been defrauded into $45,000AUD debt.

So, at 25, I managed to get out of that, and slowly pay off the debt under constant legal threat of bankruptcy. I also lost an ovary due to a massive ovarian cyst (600ml) and it is now unclear if I can have children.

At 26 I was raped again when I was at a party with friends. I went a bit nuts afterwards, and even dabbled in crystal meth once or twice.

I was finally cleared of the debts at the beginning of 2007.

From there on the main struggle has been the Major Depression. I've finally managed to find a stable, non-abusive partner, but I struggle with my weight, health, and financial difficulties.

Despite all of this, in my last psychiatric assessment I was described as amazingly resilient, and optimistic. Heh.

I need more squishy food to go with my Pizza Burn (not caused by Pizza). It is now 7 days later and blistered all crazy.

I think I want pancakes for dinner. Pancakes are soft and usually not too hot.

Cheers guys. I don't feel too bad, just starting to get frustrated with lack of soft, squishy, gentle foods.

Pancakes? Pancakes sound good. Pancakes are soft. Pancakes usually don't retain heat for a very long time so they won't be too hot… rite?

Fuck I want bacon.
