Our air-conditioning here just isn't working at all. It should be much cooler in here than it is.

The "chiller" on the air-conditioning wasn't on at all when I got here. They turned it on, but only for ten minutes, then they turned it off again. The only way to keep cool is to use a desk fan.

It's ½ the temperature outside and it's still this hot in here. It gets worse on warm days—and the temperature forecast for tomorrow is 39ºC (102.2ºF) !!

It was like this all of yesterday and it looks like it will be like it all of today too. And by tomorrow's forecast, it's only going to get worse.

Nah, they don't set up anything with temperature here. The air-conditioner system turns on in the morning, so even when it's working it can take a while for the place to be a decent temperature.

But with one of the chillers on the air-conditioning being completely broken, and nobody doing anything about it.... it's pretty sucky in here right now.

The current temperature is 30ºC (86ºF).
The temperature outside is 20.1ºC (68.18ºF)

EDIT: I went to get ice cream for everyone. Mmm, yummy. That was very refreshing, but it's still very hot in here.

At work I don't really care what happens with cookies. They track everything else I do here anyway. At home I know I have exceptions set up.

As for Internet Explorer, I need to use that at work for work applications, otherwise I agree that it should be avoided.

The one little casino we have here has lots of blinky lights. It also has all the windows and stuff covered, so you can't tell what time it is in there ever. It's always the same, brightly lit, blinky, noisy, flashy, whether it's 9am or 9pm.

There are a lot of things that Google does besides just Search. If you know any good Google Tricks, hacks, etc, post them here!

Use Google as a Dictionary

If you don't know the meaning of a word, you can use Google to find out the definition for you. Google will get the definitions from different dictionaries and sources and display them all.

To get Google to define a word:
define:[word]

Use Google as a Calculator

Need a calculator? Google can do calculations for you!

To get Google to calculate something for you, type it into the search field
e.g.
1 + 1
23 * 4
10 / 2

Find out what Time it is anywhere in the world

Want to know what time it is in Adelaide right now? Google can tell you what time it is, anywhere in the world.

To find out what time it is:
time [place]

Conversions

Want to know how many Euros there are to the US Dollar? Need to find out how many bits are in kilobytes? Google can do lots of conversions for you (part of the calculator).

Examples:
60 AUD to USD—Converts 60 Australian Dollars to US Dollars
seconds in a year
bits in megabytes
grams to a pound
10 celsius in fahrenheit

Weather

Want to know what the weather is like somewhere in the world? Want to see the forecast? Google knows!

Just type in:
weather [place]

Well, I am not sure about everywhere else, but in Australia, the after-Christmas sales are still going. After work I intend to go shopping (again) and pick up some more things.

Because I'm pretty broke, the after-Christmas sales give me a good opportunity to get some good deals on things. Mostly, clothes. I need a lot of work clothes—oh hell, clothes in general—and there's some nice prices at the moment.

Do any of you go shopping in the after-Christmas sales?

So far, I've bought a couple of work shirts, and a new bag to replace my old, tattered one. I had the previous bag for over three years and it really needed replacing.

What have you guys been buying in the sales?

Just for fun.

What was the first film / album / etc that you watched or listened to in 2008?

The first film I watched was Pleasantville.

The first album I've listened to is Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles.

The first single I listened to was Happy Christmas (War is Over) by John and Yoko and the Plastic Ono Band.

The first TV program I've watched is Rage, which is a music video show.

The first game I played was Guitar Hero III.

Does the "Fatal Exception" provide any further information? An error code, perhaps?

I have air-conditioning at home, which I'm very much grateful for. Especially for this weekend, as I've heard it will be 44ºC (111.2ºF).

Home is usually not too bad. If it's hot I can sleep in the lounge room on my futon. The air-conditioning gets that room the best so I can sleep quite well. Now that I've pulled the blinds down too, not a lot of heat is getting in.

I wish my car had air-conditioning. But it doesn't, it is evil.

The first time I ever went to the casino really was with my Mum. We went after something else we'd been to, and she wanted to play the pokies with her friend and have some cocktails.

We arrived reasonably early, but when we left, it was 3am! I noticed in the place that there was no way to tell what the time was at all—unless you had your own watch or something.

I don't tend to go to the casino often though. Sometimes I don't mind going and having a cocktail, but there are other places that do nice cocktails too...

I got 50% off on most of the clothes I bought. I have no money again now, but I needed work clothes.

I now have several nice work shirts, so I'm all set for when work gets serious again next week.

It's going to be warm today. At the moment it is 21°C (69.8°F), but it's supposed to get up to 39°C (102.2°F).

I left my air conditioning on at home so when I get back it should be nice and cool inside.

Yay! It's much cooler today than it was yesterday! The air-conditioning is working much, much better.

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to handle it if it was going to be the same as yesterday.

Well, I have 9 work shirts, a pair of work slacks, and a pair of shorts. I also bought socks.

I'd like a hat, but I think I've spent enough money now.

Ughhhhh work is booooring.

Today will be the last quiet day before everyone starts to come back to work. Not a lot is happening, I've answered maybe two phone calls all day.

The problem with me being bored is I also notice things like that I'm hungry....

This thread is about the idea of a Nintendo Theme Park—would you please tell us your thoughts on this?

Personally, I think it would be a good idea. I can certainly imagine it being very popular.

When I'm busy I don't tend to notice anywhere near as much. I don't get time to think most days here, let alone notice I'm hungry!

But with nothing to do, my mind turns to thoughts of hot chocolate, muffins and scones.

Yeah, I don't even have remotely healthy thoughts about what to eat when I'm bored and hungry.
