Hey, I'm having an awesome time. I played some guitar, I played some ukulele, I was on Skype, I made some cookies, I ate some cookies, I drank some hard cider, I learned that Dr. Karl Kruzelnicki and Adam Spencer are in a new show on the ABC called Sleek Geeks

Happy

Old.

I think I've only had this emailed to me at work about 5 times.

I tend to review my goals at the end of the year. It's just a good time to remember to do it.

Mine are again to lose weight (not too much, but a bit) and also to keep my house clean.

Well, I thought more about this. I guess first and foremost I need to address my Depression. I've been doing that the second half of last year too a lot, and will need to continue to work on it. I seem to lapse into more serious Depression on a regular basis, at least once a year. I'd like to try to find ways not to do that.

The rest again is weight and health stuff. I'd like to try to drink more green tea. I have some lovely Japanese sencha which I enjoy, but I should drink it more often. It's good for improving your cholesterol ratio, and can help protect against bacterial infections (which is good cause I get tonsillitis a lot).

And I want to pay off my laptop and work to pay off the remainder of the debts my ex left me. I'm sure I'll be able to pay off my laptop in the first half of the year, then I'll put the $150 I've been paying with that straight into the next debt, snowballing it.

I'll probably make other goals during the year -- I always do -- but I do find New Year's to be a good time to review my major stuff and what my plans are with it.

Edit: And remember people, your new year's resolutions should be SMART:

  • Specific. Don't just say "Lose weight." Decide to "Lose 12 pounds."
  • Measurable. Instead of "Be better about corresponding with old friends," decide to "Send out birthday and holiday cards to my high school friends."
  • Achievable. "Be the perfect employee/mom/sister/spouse" is an admirable goal, but nobody's perfect, no matter how resolved they are. Make your resolution something that's possible—like, "Improve next year's performance review by at least one grade."
  • Realistic. You've only got so many hours in the day, so make your goals realistic based on what resources and tools you've got on hand. Learning how to milk a cow, for example, is less realistic for someone who lives in the middle of Manhattan.
  • Timely. Since these are New Year's resolutions, set goals you can reach at most within the next 12 months. Giving yourself a "deadline" of sorts will help you figure out where you should be when while tracking your progress.

Needs more padding.

And don't ever make scroll layouts. There's just no excuse.

Blah. Work is bloody boring.

I went through and actually cemented some decent New Year's Resolutions, and I've been drinking a lot of water, and tidying my desk. I have eaten badly today, so not a good start to my weight loss / weight maintenance efforts. But I did catch up with a friend at Lunch Time, so that was good

I want to go home. 1 hour, 10 minutes to go. Then I'm going shopping quickly. I need socks and stuff. Bleh.

Haha shopping.

With the stuff I've been buying on the rosenqueen website tonight, I think some people in #super-x might be tired of me talking about it (just an hunch)

Dammit, you reminded me to check out Zazz today. I can't afford today's thingy.

Oh well, I need socks more than I need an alcohol breath tester.

I am not allowed to listen to anything much at work in case I can't hear the phone ring because of it.

But I seem to have With A Little Help from My Friends in my head from Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Actually, the whole album seems to be going through my head.

Too retarded? Because you were told—by multiple people—not to create a scrolling layout?

I don't want to stifle your self-expression, but scrolling layouts are a bad idea. ANYTHING that requires additional effort on behalf of your end-users is a bad idea.

When you write on the internet, you want others to read it, don't you?

If you want people to read what you have written, then make it as easy as possible for others to do so. Don't make it harder for them by imposing user-unfriendly interfaces.

Other people here have suggested some very good fixes for the layout. I would suggest you take their advice.

Mozilla Firefox can be set to ask you about Cookies.

Go to your Preferences, then Privacy. Set "Keep until:" to "Ask me every time".

If you want Exceptions that won't ask you each time, you can set them in Exceptions.

God Damn I want a Wii.

I don't expect I will be able to afford one for another 6 months though. Although there may be opportunities before then for me to temporarily go crazy and buy one anyway.

I'm disappointed that you're being silly about the elections. In Australia we all vote, and I think it's important.

There is some shitslinging in Australia, but I don't think I've seen the kinds of smear campaigns I've seen in the US here.

Well, today's the second day in a row that the temperature inside my office space has been over 30ºC (86ºF). It's ridiculous.

I've filled in an Accident/Incident Report Form complaining about it, but nothing much has happened. It's actually much much cooler outside, but I can't just go outside. I work on a Help Desk so I have to stay at my desk—callers don't know what the temperature is like here, they just expect the phone to be answered.

I'm going to go get icy poles later.

Stupid work.

Bah. I can't even really imagine actually being in a place like Las Vegas. There's just nothing like that around here. I am sure our one little casino here is nothing like the stuff there too.
