Yeah, wtf? That seems sleazy.I wonder how this is all implemented. Some VC games have had patches to the actual binaries, but not as complex as this. Wonder if they actually bothered to dig up the source code for this one. I'd bet all the DLC stuff is done by just setting flags in the save files, too. ![]() -------------------- |

If you applied to work there, they do.
Seems pretty clear to me. It reminds me a lot of the trick they tried to pull on Nintendo back when the Playstation was being born (tricky wording would have given Sony all the rights to all the games, hence Nintendo telling them to go jump in a lake), and on other people at various times (the CD rootkit debacle, where you gave your email address to their spam lists in a similar agreement to download the removal tool). Just typical Sony. ![]() -------------------- |

Well, no reason an emulator couldn't support microphones without it, just nobody has bothered to figure out how it works.I had a copy of this game once, and Gameshark never worked right on it. Again, nobody bothered to figure out how to get it working, so... ![]() -------------------- |

Oh wow, that's a lot more complicated than I thought o.o I expected it'd just be a mic-to-N64 adaptor and the game itself would be responsible for reading the audio and figuring out the speech from it.That does mean it should be much easier to write a plugin that just lets you pick a word to send back, though... -------------------- |

I had Simpsons-branded soda once. It was crummy. I doubt [insert franchise here]-branded is going to be much different. It exists solely to milk money from kids who enjoyed the game. What was fun was when I worked in a department store and was tasked with putting away an angry bird plush. The shelf was a mess of pig plushes. Nailed it. ![]() -------------------- |

See, I've been pondering a portable Wii for a while, and this mini version would be perfect... except I'd be using it mostly for Gamecube games, so. :| (wouldn't be surprised if it could still be hacked to play them, but you'd have to wire in some new ports...) a portable would also need hax to run games off SD cards instead of discs, and that's much easier with older models, especially if this one has removed SD entirely (which seems rather crippling). Also, it really looks a lot like the slim PS2. ![]() -------------------- |

Anyone else heard about that? I certainly hope it's BS, seeing as it'd be a real dick move when the machine should already be able to play Gamecube discs. I guess those games are hard to find now, but plenty of people already have them... it's one thing with the older cart-based systems, you know they can't really have a bunch of different cartridge slots on the console, but when they're all disc-based... ![]() -------------------- |

This is especially interesting... so the ROM is patched to disable sounds, but there's also a separate patch file? That especially seems like the only reason to modify the ROM itself would be for anti-piracy purposes. Or are these not simple patches, but something else? ...then they go and include the unpatched ROM as well, and don't even use it? WTF Nintendo... don't tell me they use .smc extension and copier header too. :V -------------------- |
