So I saw footage of this game on Youtube and it looked the same as Ruby/Sapphire in terms of graphics, sound, and game mechanics. Just a different perspective and new maps. What all is different?

In my experiences, Gaim/Pidgin is pretty crappy (ugly interface, lack of features, etc), but Trillian is rendered completely unusable by bugs.

Unless you had a really good CRT and/or a really crappy LCD, I'd guess it's the CRT's fault. When I made the switch it was like holy crap I can see. Could be that you have the brightness too high or too low, or a low refresh rate, or too high a resolution for the size of the screen.
