I saw the previews, and all it does is looks like another kids movie with pop-culture references that the kid's won get so the parents won't be bored. But it's automatically funny because it's pitched up... -sigh- I hate movies these days.

Posted on 01-20-08 01:07:02 PM, in Pokemon Prism (New Beta) (last edited by Koolboyman at 01-21-08 04:20 AM) Link
Download the New Beta! (1/20/08)

Pokemon Prism (Origionally called Pokemon Bronze) is a hack of Pokemon Gold, and the sequel to Pokemon Brown, which can be downloaded here: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/134/. It is a complete overhaul of the original game. However, Prism will be a vast improvement over Brown.

Features:
- Jam packed full of several new features.
- Brand new region of Naljo (bigger than Johto).
- Return of the region of Rijon (Areas were taken away in Kanto in Gold, Rijon in Prism will have all areas). Rijon will heavely be based around an important second quest.
- PARTS of two more regions (Johto, and a surprise one!)
- Over 400 brand new maps (Gold had 368)
- Three new moves
- Several new items, replacing all of the Teru-Sama's
- New music, ranging from music based from other games, to my own custom music.
- Five new types (Wood, Gas, Wind, Abnormal, and Sound)
- New TM/HM set
- Lots of scripts made from scratch
- ASM Stuff
- All the Wild Pokemon sets trainer's Pokemon sets have been changed completely
- New Pokedex order (Naljo), as well as the National Dex
- Apartments and houses you can purchase.
- Interact with brand new characters and some returning characters ranging from the official games to characters from Brown.
- Gold Token system - save them up and get something good. Can you find all 80 of them?
- Crafting Skills
- Side Scrolling areas
- And much, MUCH more

Heres a couple of Screenshots: (Graphics are a work in progress)

Glitches:
A few things are glitchy, but will not interrupt game play.
A. Minor Pallet glitches.
B. Phone calls will have people asking you about "?????" and talk about incorrect locations. Just ignore this, or don't get their phone number. It will be dealt with later for I'm adding a new feature regarding this that didn't get done in time.
C. SOME text might overlap the border, while others provide large blank spaces. I did my best to find them all, but I'm sure theres a few I missed, so don't freak out.
D. On the Town Map, your sprite will look like Hiro and Red no matter what, but don't worry it doesn't affect it on the actual overworld.
E. "Dude" will show the incorrect back graphic
F. Your back graphic in battle will not change based on what sprite you are (besides male/female), we'll add this in the future.
G. Sometimes viewing options on the main menu will make the text box glitchy.
H. Probably a few other minor things.

I just uploaded a new version with some changes.

- Several text strings have been repaired, but there still might be a few. No big deal anyway.
- Pallet changes to battles.
- Text font has been reverted to it's original form - I started liking the original one better, and the font I used is used for several other games.
- Your Pokemon are healed after the first battle with the Rival.
- When your Pokemon learns a new move, its current PP will now match it's max PP
- Selecting "No" to the tutor on Route 71 will make him walk away from you, not walk on top of you.
- "Weeds" appearing when walking around in the grass has been removed (since it would not fit the snow at all)
- Boy in Heath Village no longer talks about the Cycling Road.

... I'm not touching Pokemon Gold again for at least a month. Infact, I'm simply sick of Pokemon for now. Was "fun", but I need to focus on my other hack now.

Scenes in Banjo-Kazooie have two "models" for them. One is the main model (which is the one that was imported), the other is for various 2D objects, flowers, fences, water, and in this case, the bridge.

Index No. - Location - Pointer - Name
14AA - 77CF08 - [103E8] - MM - Mumbo's Mountain A

Made by Brendan Nilsson, and Subdrag, and I.

This will support importing .obj files (with texture and collision support), moving, adding and changing objects placed on the level, header editing. We plan to add several features to the editor later on.

We're working hard to get a working version out to the public. We have a lot done but we still have a lot of work to do. Let us know what you think as well as suggestions and/or questions you have.

I really hope you guys keep on this, BK is one of my all time faves and would actually be motivated to make a hack for it, unlike Mario64.

This is aimed to be THE Toad's Tool of Banjo-Kazooie. There's a lot of things that are strangely programmed that we had to work around. We don't have any shots of the editor yet but we'll upload some tutorials and such.

Ah, this is cool. I had no idea that things were this far along in the BK hacking scene. Will Mumbo's Wand allow you to disable the opening cutscene as well?

I'll skip asking about transparency, since I know like water collision that's on the way to being solved.

Also, it makes me happy that you never used this as the name.

Water collision is solved, it just wasn't figured out when that video was made.

The few hackers who truly care about hacking (mainly from TheRWP including me) have been working over a half decade to tear this ROM apart. There isn't a lot of public information about it out, that's all. I myself have mapped out over 90% of the ROM's memory. The opening cutscene will be disabled, actually creating cutscenes would be pretty complicated, but never say never.

Also here's a brand new video

It's a shame that ROM hackers still have to deal with this shit. Some bastards tried to sell my ROM Hacks (Pokemon Brown and Prism) before as well which made me put a splash screen at the start of Prism.

Oh and just so you know, they're still selling other Pokemon hacks on ebay like Chaos Black and Quartz.

Quartz actually has a PRODUCT PAGE on eBay.

Posted on 03-29-12 11:18:03 PM, in Should we release incomplete versions of our ROM Hacks? (last edited by Koolboyman at 03-29-12 08:19 PM) Link
This is somewhat of a rant, so you know what you're getting yourself into. Also a wall of text. You have been warned.

I created two ROM Hacks called Pokemon Brown and Pokemon Prism, both have had incomplete versions released to the public. Something to bide the time while people wait for the final version.

The problem here is, people download these ROM Hacks, upload them to wherever the hell they want and it becomes impossible to contact some of these people and explain to them that there's a newer version out and to either get them to remove it, or update it explaining where you can always find the latest version.

So I've made maybe, the "mistake" of releasing these things when they weren't fully done. People are still playing the 2008 version of Prism on youtube and complaining about things I've already put into consideration and fixed in a public version. Hell, people here and there are finding the 2004 version of Brown which is almost a decade old.

I am not blaming the people downloading the ROM hacks off of these websites. They see a list of ROMs and think "Pokemon Prism might be cool", and download it.

I've contacted ROM sites who were hosting my hack. Some of them understood and removed the ROM after I asked them too. However there are certain sites that are just impossible.

Example is Doperoms. The person in charge of that site, politely stating, is a complete moron. I sent him a polite email about a half a year ago linking to my outdated ROM Hacks and asked if he could remove them. He told me and told me that the ROMS were not downloadable, which I quickly found out was a lie because I downloaded it right after I read his message. He then stopped responding to me I tried to contact him two other times (latest was about 2 weeks ago). I guess he might have blocked my email, but the site policy reads:

"If there are any developers that do not wish their games to be listed in the database, please send an email, and they will be promptly removed."

Which he failed to uphold and makes me believe he does this not only to ROM hackers, but people who actually developed real games that are being hosted on that site. To make matters worse about this site, is I see people playing the 2008 version on Youtube (I do a serach for my ROM Hacks on youtube every 2-3 weeks). I send them messages asking where they got the ROM and they told me: Doperoms.

Like I said, I'm not blaming the people downloading it from these sites, but when people download it and think that's all your ROM hack has to offer (The ROMS dont even come with the readmes I made for releases as well), it's disappointing knowing that they could have played a much better hack if the people in charge of the site would just listen. It's not like Brown and Prism are the most popular ROMs on the site or anything (and I'm sure it's VERY far from it), so it puzzles me why he would be so resistant to remove or even, UPDATE with a better version?

I know it's probably not as big of a deal as say, someone selling your ROM Hack (Someone did that to Prism and another to Brown but they were both resolved). But it's just frustrating.

What do you think? Should we just stop releasing "Betas" and release it only when it's done?

tl;dr version: People host our ROM hacks and don't keep track with the latest versions. People continue downloading the old versions not knowing that a better version is out and I cannot cooperate with the people in charge of the ROM hosting websites to either remove or even update the old versions on several ROM hosting websites. It's frustrating.

That's what I did for the latest release of Prism and even then people are hosting that version after the splash screen tells them not to (I'm sure the ROM hoarders on ROM hosting sites didn't even play the hack). It helps, but it doesn't fully help because people don't understand which version they're downloading. Maybe adding version numbers and the released date in the ROM would help? However I did not apply it to the older versions which are still spiraling around the web completely out of my control.

Perhaps this should be standard, even with so called "final versions", since you're probably always going to have to patch for glitches shortly after release.

That sounds like a lot of fun, I always had an idea to do something like this and was considering trying to do something like this for GDC next year (which is probably more difficult). Wish I could be there, I never met another ROM hacker in "real life". Have fun.

I have too many to name. I have had the craziest dreams. Thing is, I only remember portions (but I guess that's normal), and I wish I could remember the whole thing.

My favorite ones are then when I can fly, even if I encounter some weird and down right scary stuff.

Working on my level now. Never realized how time consuming it can get to prevent cutoff while keeping the design idea you have. This will indeed be a challenge.

Don't mean to sound like a SMW Central Hack Mod... but...

Both of those hacks have several instances of cutoff (which is a pet peeve of mine). Try to get rid as much as it as possible.

Well then SMW itself should have fixed those instances of cutoff before releasing it. Yes I understand that cutoff has a low priority number on the task list. They could have been busy working on more important things just to get the game done by the deadline and they might have not have had the opportunity to fix the cutoff. But if you have the opportunity to fix cutoff, why not do it?

Don't get me wrong. the level's aren't half bad. It's just something you should put into consideration.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
