(to Boing) ARGH, did I actually show the glitchy bush in the video!? Oh noooo! I didn't even notice it! I should probably just remove the Ghost House intro altogether, but I have to do something about Yoshi...

Also, I have a problem taking good screenshots, but I see your point, and I could try to do both... and turn my embedded videos into links...

(to SNN) ALRIGHT, Grasstown! WOO! This turned out well too. I'm not a very good judge of music, but I like everything about it. And thanks for the compliments on my levels.

Oh noes, somebody call the WAAHbulance. Big freakin' deal if you have to rip 'em yourself. Stop whining! It took me 6 hours to get some of my ExGfx backgrounds set up, such as Dust Hill Zone and Launch Base Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog... 6 hours, that's right. And my Overworld took over 24 hours to finish, 20 of which I worked on all at once without sleep. My point is, if you're not willing to put in a little effort in your hack, you best not be involved in the hacking scene. No exceptions.

And yeah, I may be a bit of a hothead, but I make a valid point. So get up off your butt and start rippin'. And show us a screenshot of your finished project so we can actually feel proud of you and that you're at least competent.

New level. And no, I haven't taken normal screenshots yet-- this video is literally hot off the press.

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lBakJsPt6pU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

This one's... Oh my God. HARD. Very hard. Took me like 50 tries to do it without the Midway Point. This level's on the way to World 2's Castle, but thankfully, due to the nature of the hack, you don't have to play it right away (you can beat the game in any order you want, since the last level's only requirement is x amount of exits), or you can leave and go get powerups first (I recommend the feather).

Albatoss is from mikeyk and Flying Wiggler is from smkdan.

What's Green Coast without... Red Coast?

It's a pretty short level, and it's very fun to explore.

This video shows off my own ASM hack, too: Earth Jukes. Collect 6 and you're sent to a shadowy part of the level (Subspace, maybe?) where you'll find random crap. In this case, you get the key. Earth Jukes and Wind Tokens are what gives SMTI it's treasure-hunting feel.

(to Googie-- yes, I still call you Googie) You should post some shots of stuff you've done recently. I saw all your YouTube videos and I think they were awesome, but that was almost a month ago... You've made headway since then, right?

I'm gonna rant about Googie a little here, well, more like brag about him... Whenever I think of Rom Hacking, I think of this guy. I've known him for several years (not personally, but online friends are just as valuable as friends in real life), almost ever since I entered the Rom Hacking scene, and he's pretty much had nothing but uplifting things to say through the whole rigomarole. His support helped me progress to the level I'm currently at. Then there's his hacks... He's got TONS of them, and while several of them are just graphics hacks, there are also several that aren't, and it just goes to show you how much effort pays off in a rom hacker. Googie is a very balanced, positive, determined rom hacker, which I'm convinced we need more of in the hacking scene.

Alrighty, I'm done... I guess I was in a writing mood, and I thought I should say those things out loud to the public. It was worth it.

Anyway. New level here. This one took me over a day to make. That's not including the custom boss I coded and put at the end of the level.

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6SGdGbgyNjc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

And yes, there are some glitches in the video... Workin' on it, workin' on it...

Oh yeah. The level has like 3 or 4 ways to beat it, but the video only shows one way.

Hey Schwa, you're fast with learning Computer related things, don't you? The boss seems good, but a little bit hard. ^^ But that's again, you're opinion. Say, how does it come that you're so fast with learning ASM?

Believe in me, that's one of the benefits of being Autistic.

But don't get the wrong idea. I might be learning fast, but I'm still quite the beginner; I tried making a sprite from scratch with mikeyk's tutorial and I can't even get the graphics to draw properly. I was trying to draw a 32x32 sprite and animate it... No dice. It just gives me flickering garbage over the entire middle of the screen. ...I wish Nightfall was ready... I could ask for help...

Anyway, thanks for the compliments on my custom boss. He took some setting up, but he wasn't that hard to do, since he was mostly based off mikeyk's Birdo... And yes, I know, I can't draw to save my life. Sorryyy... Also, he is a little challenging, but there's some secrets to beat him. If you have the Cape, you can whack the canes out of the air, grab them before they fall, and throw them at him for a more accurate attack.

Also, I updated this guy. Now he does two things differently: 1) Each time you hit him, you get points. The more he's been hit, the more points he's worth, and you get a 1UP when you defeat him. 2) He starts out not being able to jump very high or throw very often, but as he takes damage he jumps higher and throws more often. This makes for a gradually harder fight.

NICE job on the music, SNN! The Last Battle is catchy and expertly done-- I love how you even got the echoes to sound right! I'm listening to this SPC right now as I type. Ah, so you're taking a break from these musics? I know how that is. How's your actual hack coming along? I saw some of the hack on YouTube (Boothoven's Fort), and it's awesome. This is gonna be one of those great hacks that ranks up there with TSRP2 (which is probably the best hack of all time).

Well, I have something new too. But it's not a video, it's a screenshot of part of my Overworld-- one of the submaps. I just HAD to show this off...

World 6 - Jigsaw Island

I'm gonna have to wholeheartedly thank Mattrizelle (or however you spell it) for providing me the offset to disable the Bowser Valley submap lightning. Otherwise the palettes would look all glitchy. Anyway, this World is, as you could probably guess, based on puzzle solving (though I have none of the levels done for it yet).

That water level you see isn't actually a level. It's labeled "Wading Pool", and it's the destination drop-off point for another one of those dynamic Overworld warps in World 5. (The warp is a level located in a whirlpool in the Ice World, and it's called "Tempest".) The two pipes are cool; one leads from World 2 (where Mario's standing), and the other leads to World 7, but if you play through World 4 first instead, you come FROM that pipe, and you can play the neighboring level to get back to World 2 instead of the other way around. (The secret exit for that level actually leads onto the island, where you can make your way towards the castle.)

Freeform Overworlds are made of win.

Here's another custom boss...

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jd3Izk9z8Ig" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

Fryguy was always cool. Why not put him in SMW?

Oh, and the arena is just a test arena. The real arena where you fight him is in a level I haven't made yet. What do you think? Should I put him in the lava castle 'cause he's a fireball or should I put him in the Ice World to be true to the game he came from?

And feel free to offer me criticism and advice on this boss. It took me a day and a half to make and he's still rough around the egdes.

Hooooo, that's a tall order there... I'd have to import/write some code that deals with Extended sprites as opposed to Custom sprites, and set up some Tables and new commands to determine when he fires the special attack, and *probably* re-map some tilemaps for the guy. So it IS possible... I'm just not up to it right now. Are you good at coding sprites? If so, I could send you the code for Fryguy and you could improve upon it if you wanted. ...And yeah, those Kids don't handle collision with walls too well... I might be able to change them around a little, but again I'm not up for it right now. It'll get done before the hack's release though.

Ooh, good idea. I think I'm gonna be funny and do that at a moment's notice; the scenery changes in the room RIGHT before the boss fight. XD

While Pandaren was busy critiquing my firey friend here, I was busy giving Reznor a workout.

Oh.

It's hard, hard work. People like mikeyk and smkdan are Gods at this sort of work; I don't know how on Earth they know the stuff they do about this... This Fryguy took me a day and a half to get to work, and it's still rough around the edges. Believe me, the way I had it planned out in my head isn't quite like how it actually turned out.

I mean they're good suggestions... but it's not as easy as you think.

(to Boing) Whoa! I'm gonna need to check that out. ...Hey, who is this MiOr, anyway? I keep hearing about him but I don't know a thing about him...

Anyway, who's curious about why I monkeyed with the Reznor boss?

I'll tell you. I'm making a Reznor-themed level. Behold!

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/N4WNTc-s0nk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

This is just the first half of the level. The Solo Reznor is based on the Sledge Bro and a few other sprites. Let me know what you think.

(to smkdan) DUDE. ...Thanks for the Flying Wiggler sprite. You rule.

(to darklink) Ooh, thanks! *downloads*

(to Boing) Haha, I finally impressed you! I thought about the palette thing... See, I have two variations of Reznor-- the one you see, and a red version that fires faster and occasionally jumps into the air to slam the ground. What I'll probably do is change the blue Reznor back to the earth color, and make the red Reznor a similar color only more orange. ...And yes, these sprites are based off Sledge Bros. and the fireballs are based off Spikey Balls. (All I had to tweak on the spikey balls is the graphics routine so they would have four frames.)

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/W5sZANUzOaY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

Here's a new video. I made two new custom sprites. One is Cobrat from SMB2, based off Snifit, Birdo and the Ground Pound Koopa (he takes 4 stomps to kill). The other is my FIRST COMPLETELY FROM SCRATCH sprite: the Treasure Chest. Touch it, and it opens and out pop 12 coins, one at a time. It doesn't work terribly well with Fire Flowers though... Guess why. *hangs head*

Here, I'm releasing the Treasure Chest to the public. Download!

Oh, and Boing, you don't need to worry about competition. Your hack is still awesome.

(to darklink) Thanks and thanks. Too bad about the fireball problem though.

(to Koneko-- yes, I'll still call you Koneko) Nah, I'm about as savvy with music as a bowler using a cardboard box instead of a bowling ball. I download all my music at a website called Galbadia Hotel (to mods, please remove the link if I broke a rule; I forgot if it's in the FAQ or not). The names of the tracks are in the YouTube descriptions I wrote, if you must know (and my YouTube channel is in my sig now).

Okay, here's what I worked on today: Walking Ninji and "Shower Edition" Panser, both based off mikeyk's Shyguy sprites, and probably fully customizable with all of their features (though I haven't tested rideability or carryability). (Someone already made a Panser, but it sucks, so I made this one.)

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aJ3U5M3ZV7A" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

I'm releasing both of these. Here's the Ninji, and here's the Panser.

I'm really enjoying making these custom sprites. I wonder if spriting legends like MiOr, mikeyk and smkdan feel the same way?

Neat, the Ninji is just awesome!
And the panser... It's awesome too!! But... I think it throws way TOO many fireballs.

Well, that's easily changeable... Problem is I haven't marked which values to change very well. Somewhere in there there's an "AND #$07", which if you change to "AND #$0F" causes the Panser to fire at only half the rate. Also, near the beginning of the file are two CMP commands that relate to the Frame Number; if these are changed, you can control what exact frames are when the Panser changes from closed to open and vice versa.

Some other time I'll mark these down and re-upload for more customizability.

(to Boing) I believe so. I haven't tested rideability or carryability, but by all accounts it should function perfectly. Same with the Panser.

(to Googie) JOIIIIIN ussssssssss...

Edit: Here, new video. This level is one I made like 2 weeks ago. I dunno, there's something about it I don't particularly like... Can anyone tell me what it is?

(to Boing) Think back to Paper Mario. Bingo, flying Bloopers. It's legit.

(to Imajin) I hear that! It still boggles me how they could figure all this out with the SMW code and stuff... But it's here, it exists, I can touch it (sorta), so you won't hear any complaints outta me.

(to all) Time for the most complicated level I've ever designed. Maybe.

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Rf26YSh5KCc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

The level has two themes. The first is that when you go in and out of a door with a sign of an enemy above it, that enemy will appear in the main hub. (I got this from Wario Land II.) The other thing the level centers around is the On/Off Switch. I set up some pretty crafty puzzles with this thing.

Let me know what you think.

Oh... I dunno, I think it's justified since I won't be releasing any demos at all until it's finished, except to my 3 beta testers... I just want to keep all my followers up to date and stuff (by followers I mostly mean my supporters over at YouTube). Besides, I like making videos with different music and stuff. What I'll do is remove all the videos from my Channel when the hack is just about completely finished, or at least set them to "Hidden Mode" so only some people can see them.

But you're right... From now on I'll only occasionally post my videos here-- but I'll still post them all on YouTube, so that way people at least get the option of seeing them.

YOWZERS, that submap... Talk about menacing! From the YouTube videos I've seen and the screenshots here, I can tell your hack has more of a "dark side" to it than most typical SMW hacks. Don't worry, that's not a bad thing.

You should show us a screenshot of one of the levels for that World. ...Or are you just working on the Overworlds for now and saving the levels for later? I'm not telling you how to run your hack; don't get the wrong idea...

Hey, you know how I said I wouldn't show any more videos? I lied. I can't help it. If I have a video up I want to show the entire world. So here's one with several new features, including Buster Beetles (blue shelless koopa tweaks), Pansers (from the other video), speed-booster wheels (straight from Sonic 2's Chemical Plant Zone), and thunderbolts that fall from the heavens (thanks to Davros for the original shooter-type sprite this was based off of). The name of the level: Roadrunner Hill.

Aw, that is the SHIZZ! AWESOME job.

(to FirePhoenix) Wow! I've never played Super Metroid (at least I don't think I have...), but that still looks pretty cool. I love the music, even if you didn't make it. Are those spikes on the ceiling or it is just decoration? And how do you unlock those grey gates?

Here's another new level. It's huge, aggravating and has a custom boss at the end ripped from ZII AoL.

(removed)

And yes, I'm aware that the custom boss has some glitches with its fireball-shooting routine. This is something I'm not quite sure how to fix.

Edit: Actually, scratch that... I think I just fixed it. The fact that the boss started out halfway in between two Screens might've had something to do with it.

Edit: Damn, my video was too long so it got rejected by YouTube. I'll see about getting just the boss fight up for you guys...

Edit 2: Alrighty, here's just the custom boss. It took me a day and a half to make.

<object width="425" height="350"> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/___H9gwhkak" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

The premise: You have to build momentum during your jump or the armor on the boss will absorb the blow. She takes damage if you land on her after stomping two or more of her energy balls during the jump. Damaging her also triggers Angry Mode. Mario will be damaged on the spot if he tries to jump on the boss in Angry Mode, even while spinning, and in addition to that the boss shoots bouncing fireballs instead of straight-flying energy balls while angry. She takes 5 hits to beat, and with each hit she stays angry longer, plus you get more points (and a 1UP on the deathblow).

Whew. What a day.

Well, since I have mixed opinions of whether I should post videos or not post them, how about I make a new thread in this forum that contains all the videos, so people can choose to view them or not view them? I seriously want to keep posting them, so this seems like a fair solution...
