So...it's an emulator in a box? It can't be based off of existing clone hardware because none of them support HDMI.

I'll stick to my PC, thanks.

I think the switch to HDMI is due in part to the lack of analog inputs on some new TVs. There are enough solutions for converting analog to HDMI externally now that manufacturers are starting to drop the legacy inputs.

Let me just say that I really don't like the direction this thread is heading.

Regardless, welcome to Jul, A.J.

I found a file containing what appear to be pieces of the windmill (as seen in the video here) in the Japanese version several years ago. I'll have to see if I can dig it up again.

I tried looking for unused text in the US version, but unfortunately all the text is either compressed or in a non-ASCII encoding.

I dug up my old files again, and I can say with 100% certainty that the tiles I found are from the old Iron Town.

The raw tiles (apologies for the weird palette, these were extracted directly from a file using Tile Molester):

The windmill from the video, and the extracted tiles:

The central tower from the video, and the extracted tiles:

A room that may be the interior of the central tower (both have six sides):

These appear to just be "overlay" graphics (for stuff that Tomba can walk behind); unless a matching background is found, these may be the only remnants of the town left in the game.

I wish I could tell you which file these were located in (or any other useful info for that matter), but unfortunately the individual I was collaborating with on this is no longer a part of this community, and I don't seem to have any saved chat logs.

[EDIT]
Not sure if these are useful at all, but here you go:
List of areas
List of items (lots of unused ITEM entries)
List of events
Item and event icons (definitely some unused stuff here)

Welcome to my thread. There are sentences here. However, there's a limitation! You like words, right? Well, that's too bad. You must use four! Four is the limit. No more, no less! Are you ready, chumps?

Okay, let's describe things! Remember, four words only. The first one's exempt. Here are some examples:

Christianity: "God created the Universe," "Jesus died for you"
Atheism: "The Big Bang happened," "There is no God"
Minecraft: "Punch blocks to survive"
Super Mario Bros.: "Eat mushrooms, get big"
Portal: "Escape the testing facility"
Olives: "Like grapes, but salty"

(Sentence fragments are okay. I'm not THAT picky.)

That's how it works. Give it a try!

I don't mind repeats!

Super Mario Bros.: "Where is the Princess?" "In another castle, Mario!"

(Cheaters use two sentences.)

Yeesh. I know it's an unfinished prototype, but something tells me that's not what's causing most of those glitches. It looks more like a bad dump to me (and it may very well be, considering what he had to go through to dump the cart). It's also possible that the flash ROM has gone bad, given that it wasn't a high quality product to begin with.

Alright, guys, chill out. No need to get so upset over the (mis)use of one word.

It's a shame nothing seems to be left of the old Village of Civilization. I do wonder why they left the FMV intact after deleting the rest of the stuff, though...

Is it possible that some palettes still exist for the area, or would those have been stored inside the missing TIM file? I'd like to get those leftover graphics into a presentable state, if that's truly all we have left.

I finally found my ripped copies of the US and JP versions, and decided to browse around and see if I missed anything in Tile Molester.

HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS THERE IS A TON OF LEFTOVER GRAPHICS DATA FOR THIS AREA

The following files in the SYSTEM folder all contain the area's villagers, rooms, and overlay graphics (click to see the extracted tiles):

A00147.000
A00153.000
A00154.000
A00157.000 (EDIT: this is part of the bell tower used in the final game)
A00163.000
A00175.000
A00176.000

To view them in Tile Molester, set the codec to "8bpp linear" and the mode to "2-Dimensional" (both under the View menu), then resize the window and press Shift + the right arrow key until the graphics straighten themselves out.

And just in case there was any lingering doubt as to whether these graphics actually belonged to the unused area:
