If you don't even know how to use it, I doubt you were one of the abusers. I don't recall your layouts ever being transparent anyway.

Those of you that were abusing it need to keep two things in mind when designing layouts: courtesy and common sense.

Courtesy: Believe it or not, there are still some people who browse the Internet on computers made a decade ago (I was one of them for many years). Web browsers--especially Firefox--tend to run very slowly when viewing pages with lots of unnecessary special effects. Opacity is very CPU-intensive and can reduce sub-1GHz machines to a painful crawl.

Common sense: This is a message board, and as such, is primarily intended to be used for the sharing of text messages. There's nothing wrong with sprucing up your text a bit, but please keep in mind that readability is the #1 priority. Tiny/extra-fancy fonts (especially fonts that might not exist on other machines), clashing/blending text and background colors, and scroll bars all detract from a post's readability, and what's the point in posting if people can't read your text?

I've never been able to play games via the keyboard...I guess my brain just can't get used to the "move around with your RIGHT hand" setup (though I could always switch to WASD instead of the arrow keys or something). I have enough trouble just trying to type without my fingers getting snarled into a painful ball.

For those games that only have keyboard support (Within a Deep Forest, for example), I like to use JoyToKey. Unfortunately, it doesn't work properly with all games...

USELESS TRIVIA: the Game.com's screen was only 1-bit. However, the refresh rate was so horrible that games could simulate grey shades by flickering dot patterns really fast.

What the hell were their hardware developers smoking?
