illusion of gaia, ffx and the occasional play of no one can stop mr domino

also started mmx7 so i can experience just how shit the game is and it's a beautiful disaster (beat stonekong and tonion)

popcorn enemies Do Not Exist in this one

upgrading axl's firepower to power plus beta right after the first maverick stage is mandatory to make the game playable which is both hilarious and terrifying because imagine having to slog through the entire game with every enemy taking 50 shots to kill unless you used zero (spoilers you do not want to use zero ever, his swings and general movement are slow as molasses, making dodging harder than in the previous three games; depth perception is also non-existant in 3d, combined with worthless fixed camera angles, his close range combat is worthless)

power plus beta at least makes enemies take like 5 shots to kill? which is what a non-upgraded buster should take in the good x games and also x6 🥁

I suck dick at keeping my desktop clean so I just have a sort of makeshift documents folder that's pretty much just a "desktop mess containment folder" to keep all the mostly useless shit and yes those are torso-less megamen right there

The pcsx2 folder there is just an older version to run MMX7
Roma is a thing I was doing where I was translating the Romancing SaGa 1 SNES gameplay data in Romancing Tiger's Nest, I need to get back to that

Started Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, one third into the game rn (Ariel and Mariel battle).
Went with Zantek. It's okay.

Also at Mt. Gagazet on Final Fantasy X. Currently grinding a bit.
Love its story but difficulty spikes are fucking dumb.

Arc the Lad 1 complete!

Everyone's in the 50s (Arc and Tosh are at max level, 60, because of sidequests, namely the Choko and Proving Grounds ones) in preparation for Arc 2.

Pretty meh game, but it's like Soul Blazer to me. It's not that special, but I've played worse. It fits squarely in the inoffensive yet average category. It does what it did just fine, and that's ok. I'd have appreciated more places to grind rather than stick them all in the early game until you reach Zariban. You CAN mostly solo the game as Arc in around 10h if you don't plan to transfer the save to Arc 2, but still.

Tosh is a cutie

Also playing Digimon World: Current partner is Bakemon, wanted Leomon but what're ya gonna do. File City's prosperity at 10.
Wild ARMs: PS1, not Alter Code F. Heading to the Sand River, also beat Chaos.
and Summon Night 1: Not Swordcraft Story. At Chapter 5 of 19. Might restart just to translate the dialogue for myself, I haven't been paying attention to it and that's a shame. Chapters are pretty short (a few story scenes; travelling about Seijent to speak with party members, buying items/armor and grinding in Free Battles; and 1 or 2 mandatory story battles) so it's not a huge issue. Game's fun too. Edos and Leid are shaped like friends

Also still at Mt. Gagazet in Final Fantasy X International, haven't touched that in a while 💦💦

Kinda in the mood to play more SRPGs thanks to SN and Arc, might try Shining Force, Ogre Battle or FF Tactics again soon.

EDIT: Also played Barkley's Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden some weeks back. It was pretty amazing.

("´_ゝ`)フーン・・・ヒサシブリダナァ

Yo. Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth on here. I've just joined the Discord.

Currently, I'm trying to comment and study the SMW disassembly by dotsarecool (my fork here, haven't committed anything yet) to study SMW's engine for more indepth ASM edits, as well as to try to practice making a level editor. It's also the only disassembly with properly disassembled SPC700 code so I'll be learning a bit of SPC700 alongside it, which is always good. Managed to understand the syntax on first sight, due to previous x86 and 68k experience and just general Assembly experience.

I feel Lunar Magic is stifling the ASM part of the community and the ability for SMW hacking to progress further due to all of it relying on FuSoYa's whims with no one being allowed to touch the source code to implement new features, so I'd like to at least make or start an alternative to it.

I hope I'll be able to find someone to help me because I don't know if I can get it started alone. I plan on checking out the SonLVL or NoDice (SMB3 disassembly editor used in SMB3Mix's development) source codes to learn how the logic behind that works, but then there's the issue of Lunar Magic's ASM, like being able to insert Map16 tiles by themselves instead of relying on BG Layer 1 Objects. I don't know if I'll be able to finagle the ASM code of that by my own. I'd like to reverse engineer Fu's code, but I don't want to cause another bit of drama on SMWC.

MarioFanGamer on SMWC also thinks I could be of help in making an eventual Golden Egg successor if I'm already setting my heart on this so I'll probably be studying Yoshi's Island's disasm too. I'd love to learn Super FX, so.

Ah, I'd also have to figure out what's the best proglang to code it in, since I want it to run at a decent speed but also be portable. Nothing that's too difficult to read, hopefully. Though that also depends on my coding capabilities.

Oh yeah I got unbanned from SMWC btw

I'd also like to help with Vitor Vilela's SPC Studio project that's going to surpass AddmusicK but he's busy for the next couple of years, I assume with college.

Beyond SMW I'd also like to try disassembling, coding tools and ASM hacking other games. Maybe try screwing around with one of the Goemon games, probably McGuinness (2 on SFC). Just disassembling it and studying it to make stuff with it. Or maybe help around with the Mega Man hacking scene, love Rockman 4 MI and Tsukikuro-'s hacks. I'd also like to ASM hack Sonic 1&2.

If Nesdev isn't dudebro-y I'd probably go there for advice. I don't trust places that seem very male dominated, despite being a guy myself. They just seem super sus, y'know.

Sorry for the tangent. I'm kinda special interest'ing right now /aspie

I have too much going on so I'll just copypaste.

For commentary I'd say that I'd like to learn more about PSX hacking (ASM?) so I could try to get some work started on a PoPoLoCrois translation patch, possibly a Wild ARMs 2 retranslation. Apparently PoPoLo is a horsepile codewise but I'm pretty sure a disassembly would help tons rather than just editing the binaries. Maybe I'm wrong and being a dumb who knows.

I'm playing most of the hacks without savestates, and I'm planning on restarting the ones I am using savestates on to not do so. VIP1, /v/orld (yes it's a 4ch hack, feel free to groan), JUMP, mice, Hyper and an Anikiti hack without savestates. What am I doing with myself.

At least /v/orld can wait until it gets accepted into SMWC. The person running the collab is very good at letting bugs go through lul

2nd Impact is a friend's hack so it's private for now.

Posted on 02-15-21 04:10:01 AM, in Conversion of SNES 3bpp graphics to 4bpp? (SMW level editor, tentatively) Link
I'm trying to make a SMW level editor to pass the time (not binary ROM dependant dw, will be open source despite no one on SMWC caring about tool development lol) and I'd like help on how to write a 3bpp to 4bpp conversion routine in C#. I'm very green on C#, despite having experience with 65c816 and this is also the first time I've actually tried writing an editor. I have SonLVL's source code on hand to help guide me on how a disassembly based editor should work. I'd ask people on SMWC for help but barely anyone actually knows how SMW works other than "not well" and also parts of it lol (a pained lol tho)

If anyone wants to help me I'd be down, just. Go easy on me. I'm aspie af and I suffer from a bad case of executive dysfunction.

Sorry I left the Discord btw, I wasn't doing okay. I'd go back but I don't really talk there.

I've been ping ponging through video games in an executive dysfunction induced daze, but I managed to blitz through a few chapters of Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch (PSP, JP. II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch, if you'd will) over the past few days and I made it to the final dungeon a few hours back. JP because the US version simplifies the AI based real time battles into more basic turn based affairs. US also has a deplorable translation but I've played through most of Wild ARMs 2 Disc 1 and all of working designs lunar 1, I'm practically invincible.

Had to charge my Vita (Adrenaline, hoooo /lion-o) and I also had a splitting headache from only being able to get 4 hours of sleep (body's fucked up, been like this for days), so I'm taking a break before exploring Roudo Castle more. My Japanese is far from the best but I'm managing with what little I know, as well as the red ! event progression indicators above NPCs and such and using my patented "extract dialogue with Google Translate's camera feature, fix misconverted kanji with Jisho.org's radical lookup table if needed, then yeet it onto DeepL" technique.

The story is humble, but endearing. It's no FFVI or DraQue V tier epic, but you still get to like the characters Julio and Chris find in their travels, especially with the amount of dialogue the game has. It's a cute story about two little teenagers going on an adventure in order to mature, as they heed the words left in each country by the White Witch/the Moonlight Witch; each turning into them putting a stop to strife caused by evildoers, orchestrating behind the scenes, such as a benevolent sea creature suddenly causing death and despair amongst several seaside villages, to stopping a war between two cities caused over the disappearance of a queen. Also the DILFs in the game are really cute

I also started the Windows (thanks Perfect Dark, no credit card for now sorry) and Saturn (thanks Mednafen) versions sometime ago since they're pretty different. I'll try to go through them later on in a faster fashion since most of the dialogue is retained from PC98 and Win, and every other version. A Tear in Vermillion (LoH4, or I in the western PSP release, should you ignore the TurboGrafx-CD's Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes localization) might have to wait until I finish Summon Night (PSX, though I'm also replaying Swordcraft Story 1) and PoPoLoCrois Monogatari at least. I'll also have to finish Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes 1 MegaDrive sometime. Might try Trails in the Sky FC (basically LoH6 Part 1, but the Trails series have more or less taken over haha) again soon, I deleted it to focus more on other games, but it was a good time ^^

And Summon Night is taking forever, I'm taking care to grind boam to equip my characters properly and unlocking at least one "equippable" of each summon magic I can obtain (I loves me some RPG monster designs, how can I say no), and since the game is turn based tactics, that means long battles even with sufficiently leveled up characters to the point of cakewalk.

I'm also replaying Arc the Lad 2 and Mega Man 1 (PSX version, was curious). Beat Jumping Flash! the other week as well. I've grown too used to Aloha's faux German accent to enjoy his Japanese voice, but the MuuMuus sounded more adorable (as adorable as men doing dopey voices can be).
