The new UI elements were very elaborate - lots of colors, and lots of images.

They were definitely official Nintendo releases and not fan-projects. I've never been able to find anybody else who remembers these, and I can't find any mention of them online, but I know they were real.

God, I SWEAR there were branded browsers just like these that existed around the same time period. I remember one distinctly based on the Jim Carrey Grinch movie.

I wish I could find them again...

I'm 100% on board with this. I almost always have my browser window maximized, and it always bugs me when older webpages just stretch to sizes they were never really meant to stretch to.

Oh hey, I have an Escargot too. I use it sometimes. (PM me for the email though. Don't want any unmentionables finding it.)

I would use AIM more, but it crashes my PC every time I use it, so.

Posted on 11-05-18 03:48:52 PM, in Speaking of seasons, which one is your favorite? Link
It's a tie between summer and fall for me.

As several other posters have stated in this thread before me, summer in the PNW is very good.

But there's something about fall -- maybe it's the red-and-yellow color scheme, the leaves falling, the weird but cozy-feeling dark blue sky that appears for about a week and doesn't come back until next year -- that just gets me. It's not as cold or depressing as spring/winter, but it's not nearly as hot as summer.

Despite me staying inside 90% of the time to use the computer like a weirdo, I think I have some form of seasonal affectiveness disorder, so even just seeing the blue sky outside makes me feel a teeny bit happier. A teeny bit. So that's why I like summer.

Winter is only good if it snows. Which is a bit of a crapshoot up here. (Fuck rain, though. I don't get why everyone else likes it so much. I don't like getting my hair wet... (although, I will admit, hearing the rain from inside is nice.))

Spring is eh. I don't hate it, but over here it just feels more like Winter Lite, so.

Have you seen this? You may be interested in it.

Also, could never get the hang of using Ripcord. UI felt too clunky to me.

Nothing degrades gracefully, some sites won't work at all... in the case of Windows, there's some software and hacks to get some vaguely up-to-date stuff working, but classic Mac OS is pretty much hopeless. Classilla's the best you're gonna get, and even then, that's got its share of issues.

I wasn't around for the earliest days of the web, but the early-mid 2000s still at least felt like they had that spark to them. In ways, things have absolutely gotten better, don't get me wrong...

THIS. THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS. This shit is why I've been worried about TLS/SSL/whatever taking a chokehold on the entire web. I mean, don't get me wrong, it is a good move, but the fact that so many 'obsolete' devices with internet access will no longer be able to get access to 98% of websites (without specialized software that more often than not requires you to use an external computer to get them because the site it's hosted on uses modern HTTPS) thanks to SSL is just a nightmare for me.

Ugh.

Maybe I'm just an "old man" but I really do wish we could go back to how things were a decade ago web-wise. Everything felt so much more hopeful then. Now the mainstream web is just trackers, useless JavaScript, and pages that take 5 seconds to load and have an average of 5FPS when scrolling/interacting.

Won't be able to play this until after the 25th, but I will update this post once I get my hands on it.

From what footage I have seen of it, though, I am LEGIT EXCITED to play it.

H.

Got a new one: back around 2008/09, there was this browser-based game (I think it was either Shockwave, Unity, or some other 3d web plugin) that was sort of a clone of Halo? It was an FPS where you go around a map shooting people and picking up weapons. You could play with bots and I remember the map being pretty cloudy. And craggy. Anyone else remember this?

Also: tempted to make it so that there's a list of people that have had their things remembered and things that still need to be remembered. Would anyone be interested in that?

Oh, wow. I... I think that actually might be the one. I'm glad you found this. NeoPlanet is one hell of a browser from the looks. Might install it on the 2000 VM later.

Although, I do remember finding some company's portfolio site in 2004 that had a bunch of branded browsers on them, but those are probably different from this one? I'd recognize it if someone showed me it, but. Still.

I'm really digging this so far. Hopefully it gets added to the board soon...ish?
