God bless Captain Disillusion. They debunk fake footage and viral videos, while also having the best VFX production value I've ever seen on YouTube (notincludingrocketjumporcorridordigital). Please sub to this man, he deserves it.

Honorable mentions:
- El-heck-tronics. My good friend's heavily-underrated technology channel. Go sub to it. Please. He deserves the subs.
- Nitro Rad. One of the best upcoming YT game reviewers I've seen.
- Epikrika. The best Roblox reviever I've seen on YT.
- Ross's Game Dungeon. The best GAME reviever I've seen on YT.
- VWestlife. If you like old technology, this channel is the one for you.
- The Nostalgia Mall. Same as VWestlife, but with a lot more 90s Packard Bells. And 90s kid nostalgia.
- The 8-Bit Guy. Another really good technomancer that does a lot of videos on old 80s computers. And they're entertaining, too!
- Lazy Game Reviews. More old-school technomancy. With videos that range from reviews of old Gateway2000 computers, to reviews of Microsoft Bob.
- LoadingReadyRun. Like sketch comedy, video games, WWE, and/or Magic the Gathering? You'll fit in comfortably here with this former sketch comedy group that never ceases to entertain me.
- Todd in the Shadows. Like Anthony Fantano, except actually good.
- Tom Scott. Has some of the MOST interesting videos on YouTube. I recommend watching the Citation Needed videos.
- This Is Dan Bell. Like dead malls and urban exploration? Dan's the man for you.
- Oddity Archive. And finally, if you're a fan of weird, outdated, forgotten pop culture and technological ephemera of years past, Oddity Archive is probably your perfect channel.

Hoo-hah.

Posted on 02-02-18 05:30:49 PM, in Things that you remember existing but nobody else does Link
In this thread: we post about things that we have seen on the Internet or in media and whatnot, yet you have found almost nobody that remembers said thing, like it's as almost if you dreamt it up at some point.

I'll start with two of mine:

I remember watching a video that was featured on Yahoo! Video (remember that??) in the mid-to-late-2000s that was someone pranking an audience of people into thinking that there was a new video game when in reality it was just a pre-programmed video.

The game involved four-player co-op, spongebob player models, and lots of glitches. i SWEAR this video was on the front page of yahoo! video (or some other non-yt video site) at some point but i just can't find it for the life of me.

The other thing is: does anyone remember this website from the mid 2000s that had several programs to send like. message box spam (or even in-a-pro-pro content?) to you (or maybe someone you wanted to prank?) for some reason? (I know it sounds weird, but that's how I remember it) There were different tiers (I think they were all free except for one??) of the same program that you could download and even an online demo of some sort. I remember the page having a generally dark theme (black or dark blue background), if that helps.

But uh. Yeah. Go ahead and share the things you remember but nobody else does here.

Mostly Knytt Stories. But I already detailed that on the 'oddly interesting games' thread. :3c

Honorable mentions go to Tower Unite, Firewatch, Habbo Hotel, DOOM II, Minecraft, Roblox, and Manyland.

Surprised Youtube-DL or its GUI equivalent haven't been mentioned yet. They are the BEST and most versatile YT downloaders I've ever used, hands-down. I can download videos, their descriptions, AND their thumbnails (and tack on a custom file naming pattern) with just one command.

Also, KeePass is a pretty dang good local password manager (cause if you think I'm trusting the CLOUD with my passwords you've got another thing coming) and I like to use MusicBee as my local media player. Also ShareX is pretty good too (even though it's been talked about before).

Did you know they're re-releasing all the old Blupi/"Eggbert" games for free??? And eventually open-sourcing them?!

I love it when old games come back from the dead like this. Really needs to happen more often.

Forgot to mention Mumbo Jumbo, who is the only Minecraft LPer I watch on the regular. Please check his shish out. Thank'm!!

EDIT: And Austin McConnell, too. Lots of interesting videos here (the one where Austin covers the bad movie he made in 2014 is my favorite).

Okay, actually, don't think I did my post in this thread justice. Let me try ONE MORE TIME:

- Knytt Stories. My favorite platformer ever. One of the few platformers where it's preferable to use a keyboard rather than a mouse (at least, in my opinion). Also, the ability to make your own levels results in people coming out from the woodwork every so often to release levels that I have a grand ol' time playing. I also like the general '4:3 2007' aesthetic it has. It feels like a game that was made in the OS9 days (except it isn't). Please play it, for yours and my sake. Also here's my KS fansite. It's good.
- Firewatch: Good game, alright story, great graphics, not-so-great ending (wasted potential, imo). I'll remember it forever.
- Minecraft: Yeah, I was on the Minecraft hype train back in 2010/2011. (Heck, I remember playing Minecraft Classic before that shut down. Remember that?) Strangely enough I can't really play it for more than a few hours before getting bored (and heck, I never play it singleplayer anymore) nowadays. I wonder why? Anyways I have an entire playlist of old Minecraft videos I used to watch back then. If you're interested.
- Roblox: Guilty pleasure game. I always say that Roblox has peaked after they removed Tickets, but for some reason I can't help but come on every now and again and check out some of the good places (that aren't obbys, adoption places, or tycoons). I also like to fiddle around with RBXLegacy (which is a classic Roblox server emulator).
- Manyland: Underrated 2D virtual world where all the blocks are created by the people within it. I wish it would go open-source, though... (And the web version has a banner ad now. BOO.)
- Hiveswap: It's Homestuck in point-and-click form. What's NOT to love about it!?
- Tower Unite: The official sequel to GMod Tower. I don't play it much, but I still do check its forums to see what the devs have been working on. (Also doesn't have the greatest of communities with the prepubescent meming teenagers and whatnot.)
- Portal 1 + 2: Beat all of Portal 2 in one go when it came out. Make life take the lemons back.

And now, for the games that are less memorable to me, but are still worth mentioning:

- DOOM II: I... honestly mostly like this one only for the copious amounts of ZDoom mods people have cooked up, but I can't help but also appreciate the original game as well.
- Habbo Hotel: Eh, I just only really like the pixel art style. Best one I've ever seen in my life up to this point. Other than that I don't even touch it, thanks to the hard currency. (One of the first games I ever played to have that sort of thing!)
- Blockland: Good game, but the community? Not so much, sadly.
- ZZT and MegaZeux: Two ASCII-based top-down crawler games where you can make your own levels. Did I mention I like games where you can make your own levels?
- Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!: Underrated cooking simulator that relies on fast reflexes and muscle memory. Good stuff. (I don't play it much cause it stresses me out, though...)

DeviantArt. I have a folder full of good wallpapes there.

InterfaceLIFT is pretty good too. As well as Simple Desktops and Desktopography.

Posted on 02-05-18 12:10:31 AM, in "I thought I'd like it, but..." Link
The polar opposite to this thread. I'll start.

The most recent occurence of this happening to me was when I started to read a piece of fiction (it says it's Homestuck fanfiction, it really isn't) called Modern Cannibals (yes, the one that was advertised in my sig up until recently) from a recommendation one of my older friends gave me. The description they gave me was "Modern Cannibals is about learning to cut out the toxicity in your life by flinging it off a metaphorical rooftop." and that sounded IMMENSELY INTERESTING TO ME, so I started reading.

I read it, and about a third of the way in I was like "Okay, this is cool. Can't wait to see what this leads up to." And then they all get to the convention center and they meet this guy who is probably the most disgusting man I've seen in text and at that point I just gave up. The fiction was not at all what I thought it would be after that point. I thought it would be a whirlwind adventure with some flawed and selfish teenagers, but as it turns out, it's apparently some weird slice-of-life story with this weirdo Media Consultant and Andrew Hussie, for some reason. I don't know what I expected, but it certainly wasn't this.

Reminds me of the time where I read part of an ACTUAL Homestuck fan fiction, and while I can appreciate its writing and the pictures it sporadically used during the story... when a story like that involves child abuse and terrorism against a fictional alien race... yeah. No. I can't. I can't handle that shit, man. I respect this story, but I must request you have it be thirty feet away from me at all times.

So, uh, yeah. Post things you thought you would be really into but ended up disliking.

I use MusicBee to jam out to Tally Hall from my cheap $20 Sony headphones that I replace every 1.5 years because one of the speakers goes out EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I also use Apple's EarPods wrapped around an earbud wrapper that I fit in my pocket when I'm going to work. I plug it into my iPhone 6s and I either use the Spotify app or the built-in Music app for that.
