Posted on 02-04-17 07:31:38 PM, in WWF Royal Rumble (NAOMI) Unused Character Val Venis Link
First up, just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who's contributed to TCRF over the years, and has helped to make it one of the most fascinating and enjoyable sites on the internet.

I was hacking the arcade version of Sega's WWF Royal Rumble recently, mainly to try hack and play as the bosses of the game, Shane and Vince McMahon. I was eventually able to (there's nothing very interesting about them, apart from the fact that Vince doesn't have a super move), but during my hacking I stumbled upon Val Venis, who I realised quickly was actually an unused character. I did a double take the first time I found it, as I couldn't believe this was unknown information. I never make discoveries when hacking, so this was something new for me. Once I tried playing as him, it confirmed that he was in fact unused, as he has barely any moves and usually freezes up during punches and even during some throws. It's strange that this wasn't documented before, but with Naomi emulation only having come to fruition in recent years I suppose it's not too much of a surprise it wasn't discovered yet. I've also heard that an unused version of Christian is in the Dreamcast port, but I can't confirm that yet, and I'll have to check it in the future.

Here's a few screenshots of Val in action:

I've also uploaded footage of him if you'd prefer to see that instead:

Hope this is interesting and helpful. There may well be other unused characters in the game, I don't know yet. It might be worth datamining for those who are capable of or interested in that kind of thing though.

The character values of the game, in case anyone wants to hack Val themselves for whatever reason:

01 The Rock
02 Undertaker
03 Kane
04 Road Dogg
05 X-Pac
06 Kurt Angle
07 Mankind
08 and 09 Triple H
10 and 11 Matt Hardy

17 Val Venis

19 Rikishi

20 Vince McMahon
21 Shane McMahon

Christian is also unused in the game, for some odd reason. Why they combined Christian's unused data with Val's character information I have no clue. Might be the first time I've seen two unused characters overlap in something. It's intriguing, regardless. As I said, I'll have a more thorough look through both the arcade and dreamcast versions in a few months time, and see if I can find anything else.

Hi All,

I discovered this a while back, so I thought I'd bother to share it.

I was hacking Dead or Alive Dimensions last year, and stumbled upon six fully playable NPC characters who can never be used otherwise. As far as I can tell I'm the first person to find this; I can't find any reference to it anywhere on the internet.

They are as follows:

Ayame

Fame Douglas

Irene Lew

Victor Donovan

Genra

Some generic DOATEC scientist (I think?)

This is really interesting, considering that none of these characters have ever made a playable appearance. As far as I can tell, the game holds the model data for cutscene characters in the same way it does regular characters; very similar for instance to Soul Blade or Sonic the Fighters, in that regards.

Good find! Interesting how fighting games always seem to end up with unplayable things like this.
