Me and a couple of friends play SRB2Kart, both battle mode and races, and oh boy it's hella fun but I don't play it as much due to being pretty bad at it (I can never really get the hang of drifting).
We have customized it...a lot. We have a mod that adds horns, so you can honk when you don't have an item. It also allows for custom horns, of which we have filled with memes, inside jokes and funny sounds. How many? Uh...about 900. Yep. We also have a Roll the Dice mod which allows for an additional item slot with extra effects, including Chain Chomp, Speed of Kirb, and honestly if you haven't seen it yet then there's an example at 0:15 below:
We also have more maps, more characters (some of them custom-made!) and many other random mods.
Aside from a few multiplayer games, I've been playing Mini Metro! It's more of a puzzle game than a simulation game, stations randomly pop up as time goes on, and you have a limited amount of lines, tunnels and trains to connect them. Each station is coded with a polygon/shape, and the passengers that randomly appear will want to go to a station with a different symbol. As time goes on, more of the map is revealed to you, leaving you with more empty space for potential stations to pop up. Letting a station overcrowd means Game Over! It's honestly really fun, I'd recommend it.
At the end of each week, the game will give you more trains and an option between two other resources. I've been aiming at transporting ~1000 in each map (I think there's like ~30 maps total) and so far, so good! Though some maps are a pain in the ass. I'm currently halfway through the maps.

I may not have actually talked to Near at all but I saw them as an inspiration and one of the people to indirectly convince me to start programming, despite me thinking about how I could never become a competent programmer. Once I heard of the news, I was devastated. A lot of the things Near wrote about I could actually relate to, I was truly thinking that moving to a new place would've been helpful for them. It shouldn't have ended like this.

oh shit did I never posted my current internet speed did I
it's fiber and it's pretty good and I rarely have any issues with anything really. of note is that i pay more for my internet than i do for electricity. ouch. this is actually the cheapest plan available here believe it or not, this neighborhood is weird when it comes to that
Earlier yesterday my ISP had DNS issues and outright couldn't connect to half of the websites I wanted it to connect to. I switched my DNS to Google's but I might revert back now since it seems like they have fixed it.

At the same time Canada got scorched, we over here felt the almost freezing 1ºC / 34ºF for a couple of days! This week's been normal, but the past few weeks were very very very cold. Not the coldest I've experienced over here but very close. Very unusual for a tropical region too.
I'm also realizing that while I don't like warm weathers, I also don't deal very well when it comes to really cold weather, so basically I'm just screwed any way you look at it.

I joined in late 2014, also through tcrf.net. I lot of AcmlmBoard history to me is like watching a documentary. Extremely interesting to hear about, but probably not something I'd want to live through myself. I do like hearing stories though! Seems like such a different era of the internet, one that I wasn't around to witness at all.

Today I've listened on repeat (separately) two songs used in SRB2Kart maps:
- Frums - Credits (weird glitchy song that I love)
- Elwood - Shooting Star ("my ears appreciate this music, but not my eyes" in reference to Kodachrome Void which is just lol)

you're the one that gets to decide whether you belong here or not. the past has really mostly vanished and washed away.
there was a time where a board archival and refresh would've made sense, around 2014-2016. it was pretty inactive, and a good point to put an "end" to the previous chapter and start a new one
but it didn't happen. there are two "chapters" of this board but the old one and the new one co-exist in space, though not in time. not sure how to feel about it. i guess it's kinda like seeing a neighborhood change, people come by, some of the old people leave, houses get rebuild, but you stay. it's a weird realization that the old neighborhood you used to frequent is now completely different to the point of being almost unrecognizable except for location and shape, but depending on how it has changed, it also gives way for you to start anew
i admit it's a bit weird to see just how much happened and how people talked and acted and behaved back in the board's early days (and before that), but it's also nice to see the same people the way they are now. it serves as a reminder everything changes with enough time

Originally posted by Xkeepera restart or refresh would have been the death of everything, speaking as someone who has gone through similar elsewhere in recent times. the history of this place is one of the few things that it still has; you cannot really "visit the old neighborhood" so to speak if it's all been torn down and thrown away
that's a good point actually. i guess the current configuration is fine as it is. i guess the same applies for SMWCentral on which the community has changed like twice since 2015 and yet it still has posts dating back to 2007.
still weird to think that it's possible to bump a 10+ year old thread. guess it makes it even more important to pay attention to the date of each post before reading it

as you can see i suck at drawing so i'm not usually the one to bring these characters out of the shadows. these were drawn by friends on discord
he has a name but for now he's just someone. many character traits of him are not well defined and really only decided as i go, as i get inspiration from other characters, or as other people randomly decide to interpret him. i guess i'm not really shaping him as much as i'm letting others take a look at him, draw their own conclusions, and then i join together the things i like. that's because i don't really know how to create OCs so I have just been letting things roll by and see what comes out of it
he has no backstory and no strictly defined appearance (though i really like the current one) though i can definitely picture him being more chill/neutral and yet ballin'/groovin' whenever there's something fun to do
in theory this robot could be me but in practice no. i currently don't have a character of myself (though i have one planned for the future)
i guess there are other OCs i am also currently creating but those are not for the general public. sorry!

Id like to inform that in less than 3 years since i bought it, my SSD has now completely died. It is recognized as a different model, and GParted cannot make sense of it and thinks its a 16KB drive instead, while also throwing up plenty of errors. Apparently this is a somewhat common error where a critical part of the SSD dies out and the firmware then goes into panic mode as it cannot properly boot up anymore. It died very suddenly yesterday and brought both my OS and home partition with it. Ill be restoring from a backup in a few days. In the meantime Im running off of a live usb install of linux mint.
rest in pepperoni - 240GB Western Digital Green SSD (WDS240G2G0A)

Well, good to know I guess! It was the first SSD I ever bought, back when I was still a student, so I did expect it to fail at some point I just didn't know it would be this abrupt. Usually with hard drives, I get a bit of a warning when things are going badly but this SSD didn't even report anything on S.M.A.R.T. when I checked it a few weeks ago, it just straight up died right then and there.
I just bought a Samsung EVO 870 after not only hearing about it for months now but also seeing the availability and prices online. I can refund it for free for 7 days if it turns out to be a bad purchase but I didn't hear any complaints online on anything except price. The WD Green actually died while still under warranty so I'll see if I can get either a replacement or a repair, and then I'll use it for storing programs and games.
Oh and on an unrelated note, I'm currently doing some server maintenance which is why my avatar probably will not load for a bit (unless it happens to be cached).

So the EVO 870 I received already has a "Not For Retail Sale" sticker on it, though everything inside the box looks fine.
Already going great I see! Welp. Sure hope this thing doesn't break because as far as I know that sticker means I'm not going to be able to file this one under any warranty whatsoever. Maybe that's why I was able to get it for not as steep a price as I was expecting.
Again, I still have until August 10th to return it at no cost and a full refund, so I have a bit of time to check...

Hello! I am reviving this thread simply to mention that Tetris Effect has also been released on Steam (I bought it during the launch sale it had), and I've just went through the entirety of Journey mode on Normal. I tried the first area on Expert but that quickly turned out to be a bad idea. Maybe one day.
This is a trippy game. Exactly how I like it. And relaxing too. Feels nice to actually get to enjoy it, even if it's like years after everyone else...
Am willing to try out the Multiplayer feature sometime this week (and later too maybe).

Since my previous SSD died, I had to allocate some space on the HDD to manage some files temporarily which meant I wiped Windows 10 off of the hard drive, and now that I've moved Linux to my new Samsung SSD, there's about 130GB of space that are currently not allocated. And since Windows 11 is just around the corner I decided I might as well wait and install it instead of Windows 10.
The TPM2.0 and SecureBoot requirements can already be overridden by editing the registry or messing with the installation files, so I'm not worried about compatibility all things considered. Might even use a Windows 10 Education key for that, since I have a spare one from college that I haven't used yet. It's funny though, that my motherboard does support both SecureBoot and TPM2.0 but enabling SecureBoot makes Linux not boot up, and enabling TPM2.0 makes Linux give me warnings about my TPM module having security flaws. I looked up online and it seems like the recommended course of action is to disable it.
The Microsoft account requirement for the Home edition sucks but that's the direction they're going for now so, not much that we can do about it.
