I bought (and installed) the upgrade to my computer!
Aquamarine (old)
- GIGABYTE MicroATX Socket 757 Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
- 8GB RAM DDR3 (4GB x2)
Aquamarine 2.0
- GIGABYTE Mini-ITX Socket 1151 Motherboard
- Intel Core i5 6600
- 8GB RAM DDR4 (8GB x1)
Things that I didn't change:
- nVidia GeForce 750 Ti
- 240GB SSD WD Green + 1TB HDD WD Blue
- EVGA 500B PSU
- The case
Still testing and benchmarking everything, but it's nice to be able to use melonDS without the CPU even sweating about it. The thing I'm most excited about is that, everything worked first try! I seriously expected the computer to start beeping on me.
Meanwhile, as far as everything else I talked about earlier:
- My current monitor is 1600x900, 20" and VGA-only. I have to use a DVI-to-VGA adapter for it, and even then, not all DVI ports support these adapters. It's definitely lagging behind the rest of my computer, and it's the next thing I'll have to upgrade.
I still more than welcome any recommendations for any modern monitors (DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI).
- Ink cartridges are doing fine, no need for me to buy more. HP is just being HP (as usual).
- A proper gamepad would still be nice. I managed to get it working on both Sonic Mania and Puyo Puyo Tetris, but it still sucks to use. Trying to play HUE was painful because the analog stick is a bit finicky sometimes.
- The people at work insisted that I shouldn't spend money on a laptop right now and that I could just use one of the ones from work if I ever needed to, so I guess for now that's already resolved.
- I would definitely want a Nintendo Switch, but I'll definitely not be able to buy it this year.
I think that's about it?
