I've just played the demo for Not For Broadcast.

Given that I'm a fan of games like Papers Please, I'm definitely gonna buy this game as soon as possible (a.k.a. 1-3 months time).

I was curious about how places like the would be reacting the coronavirus. I was not surprised to know they were being ignorant about it, but it was still upsetting. They're complaining about the few state-level "restrictions" as if they're unreasonable or as if they're willing to break them and protest if they last too long. They want the states to go back to normal so their life can go back to normal and the economy doesn't go to crap (money > health, after all). They say that this coronavirus problem is already over, or that it's being blown out of proportion on purpose by the leftist media, or that it will be over when it gets warmer by April. All of what I've read so far is just garbage.

The current coronavirus is called SARS-CoV-2, it's Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The first one also originated in China, near the south coast, back in November of 2002. 'Respiratory' means it attacks your lungs. Most cases are mild, only acting up like a normal-ish flu, but some are severe enough to actually make you unable to breathe. It's much worse with those people with pre-existing conditions or with weak lungs, but the virus has the potential to be deadly to anyone.

Severe cases need to be treated using ventilators, a machine that will breathe for you. Hospitals only have so many ventilators available, once they run out of them, any patient needing treatment will simply have to wait and hope that they don't die. For the entire world (excluding China who's already got it under control at least), this coronavirus deal isn't over, it's just starting. The only way we can avoid this situation where our health system is over capacity, is to try as hard as possible not to spread the virus. That's why many governments are going into lockdown.

Although the fatality rate of this virus is "only" 4%, in Italy (who has 47K cases), it's as high as 9%. In Iran (with 19K cases) it's about 7%. It can get as bad if not worse than the 1918 Influenza (the so called Spanish flu), which had a rate of 2%-10% (estimates vary). In fact, the original SARSr-CoV back in 2002/2003 had a 9.5% fatality rate. That goes to show how bad it can get without proper treatment.

Even with all this information already out there, through multiple different medias, (including WIKIPEDIA for crying out loud). It's frustrating to see these people so carelessly dismissing the virus, mocking the lockdowns and the idea of flattening the curve. Though I guess this also hurts because it affects myself personally as well.

You see, my mother and sister have chronic bronchitis, it's a lot worse for my mother too as she didn't get proper treatment when she needed. My brother was in involved in a car accident last year that damaged half of his lungs. He's a web developer, so he can work from home just fine at the very least. But neither my mother nor my sister can. And I don't even want to mention my grandparents or other family members.

All of these people in my family, they CANNOT get the virus or else they will have to go to the hospital immediatelly. And I don't want to know what will happen to them if they can't get treated.

The good thing is, it appears everyone in my family is doing well and taking the necessary precautions as the state is still in a half-quarantine. The bad thing is, if the problems with the virus itself aren't already bad enough, we're also gonna have to deal with the economic problems arising from it, at a time when things were already pretty bad.

One of the ways this whole economic thing will affect me personally is that, my hopes of buying a Nintendo Switch this year are basically gone now. Over here in Brazil, it went from $550 last year (at last year's exchange rate) to $654 this year (at today's exchange rate). It was already overpriced before mind you. And that's not even mentioning how our currency (R$ or BRL) suffered a heavy hit in the last few months, so that little $100 extra weights more like a $250 change to us. Even the Switch Lite had the exact same price spike. And they're still running out of stock!

And this is happening at a time where people are getting fired or having pay cuts rather than raises. I don't even have an appropriate reaction for this anymore. I'm lucky we're still gonna be able to afford the rent, food and other basic expenses for the next few months, but I can't help but think about everyone else who will not be able to.

I bought (and installed) the upgrade to my computer!

Aquamarine (old)
- GIGABYTE MicroATX Socket 757 Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
- 8GB RAM DDR3 (4GB x2)

Aquamarine 2.0
- GIGABYTE Mini-ITX Socket 1151 Motherboard
- Intel Core i5 6600
- 8GB RAM DDR4 (8GB x1)

Things that I didn't change:
- nVidia GeForce 750 Ti
- 240GB SSD WD Green + 1TB HDD WD Blue
- EVGA 500B PSU
- The case

Still testing and benchmarking everything, but it's nice to be able to use melonDS without the CPU even sweating about it. The thing I'm most excited about is that, everything worked first try! I seriously expected the computer to start beeping on me.

Meanwhile, as far as everything else I talked about earlier:
- My current monitor is 1600x900, 20" and VGA-only. I have to use a DVI-to-VGA adapter for it, and even then, not all DVI ports support these adapters. It's definitely lagging behind the rest of my computer, and it's the next thing I'll have to upgrade. I still more than welcome any recommendations for any modern monitors (DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI).
- Ink cartridges are doing fine, no need for me to buy more. HP is just being HP (as usual).
- A proper gamepad would still be nice. I managed to get it working on both Sonic Mania and Puyo Puyo Tetris, but it still sucks to use. Trying to play HUE was painful because the analog stick is a bit finicky sometimes.
- The people at work insisted that I shouldn't spend money on a laptop right now and that I could just use one of the ones from work if I ever needed to, so I guess for now that's already resolved.
- I would definitely want a Nintendo Switch, but I'll definitely not be able to buy it this year.

I think that's about it?

Quick file edits: xed unless a graphical interface is out of the question, in which case, nano

Projects and complex edits: standard VSCode with telemetry disabled. Terminal access means I can do commands (like run files or start servers), Git means I can do version management, plus there's multi-file editing and themes and syntax highlighting and stuff

When I used Windows, I used Notepad++ for quick file edits. It's thanks to it that I've grown used to the Obsidian theme now (though I've also been using 'Tomorrow Night Eighties').

Pac-Man Championship Edition (both DX+ and 2). These games are hella fun.

DX+ is one hell of a ride. As far as the modes go, Score Attack is an absolute blast, Ghost Combo is a neat way to showcase just how absurd the amount of ghosts on-screen can be (managed to get up to 91 ghosts eaten in a row), and Time Trial is just frustrating and stressful. I enjoyed almost every single board, but Manhattan can be a pain to deal with sometimes, the sleeping ghosts can actually block off an entire half of the board. Championship III actually left me trapped between the sleeping ghosts without a power pellet, I'm still mad about that. I'm trying to get at least an A on all boards, so far, so good. I do wish it was a bit more polished, custom key/button mapping and more online features would've been nice.

2 on the other hand...well, first things first who decided that having a forced tutorial was a good idea? Like, I understand why they did it*, but still. Also, this game really wants to make sure you earn your way through each course, almost everything is locked by default. Score Attack (Regular) still manages to be fun, Single Train mode is definitely much easier and more manageable, Expert is . I have yet to play Adventure mode. I'll try to see if I can get a B on every non-expert board. It's fun, and I still like it on its own way, but I can see why people complain about it, it's very much unlike DX+ (which is better than 2 in my opinion), and somehow it's lacking even MORE options. I wish the 2P mode from the Switch version was available on PC...

* the game has a lot of mechanics that differ it from DX+. Sleeping ghosts no longer follow Pac-Man, instead they'll follow one of the four ghosts in a 'train' of sorts. Ghosts will not kill you on contact, only if you bump into them too many times in a row (unless you're playing in Expert, in which case they go berserk as soon as you touch them). Even if you have a power pellet, you can only eat the leader of each ghost train (which will automatically kill off the entire train), every other ghost acts as a bumper. Plus there's a lot of other small changes here and there.

The Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 (Plus) / DX+ OST. DX+ only has the songs from "Pac Rainbow" all the way to the end of the playlist.

These are for the most part, highly energetic EDM songs. The Switch exclusive songs (Championship Edition 2 PLUS) are probably the best ones in my opinion.

Of my favorites:
- Pac Twin Attack
- Pac Sky Emotion
- Pac Madness
- Pac Toy-Box
- Pac Rainbow
- Re-Entrance
- All Menu Songs (2nd Entrance PLUS, 2nd Entrance, Entrance)

Of the 'slightly darker/serious' ones:
- Pac Connection
- Pac Terror
- Galaga35;2281
- Pac Dimensions

uh...this is gonna be a poorly formatted ramble, i can already tell.

a few years later since last post I feel like i didn't make any progress towards much of anything really

well, i guess i can't say i didn't do anything...i did make progress as far as: now I have a job, and a career, and my own place to live (rented of course). but...i've been focusing a lot on stability and, while i'm succeeding at it and it's been nice, because of it i had to put all my thoughts on identity and stuff on hold for the past few years...which hasn't been great

there's a group of people I talk to everyday and they all just sorta made characters for themselves and they've been asking for me to make my own "OC" or character or rendition of me and I realized that...I still don't have one. and the process of me thinking "what would i want myself to be" sorta made these identity thoughts re-surface again

i'm still at the exact same place as I was last time. i didn't really improve anywhere, but it's not like i put an effort towards improving either. same height, same weight, same body shape, etc... i feel like i should start planning some changes right now at early adulthood rather than later...but then what changes? HRT? that's...i feel like that's too much

like i don't want to be a girl. i don't feel like a girl and never felt like transitioning...but i've always liked appearing more feminine. like the only labels i found online that i like are "femboy" and "twink" but, while yes I feel like they are what I'm going for, i see them being used more of sexual preferences and stuff and it's like, while that's a part of it sure, it's not just because it's about appearance that's its also about attraction or sexuality...it's about behaviour, personality, expression or just feeling comfortable. i don't even know how to describe it other than it feels like that's more "me" than the current "me"

like...would that qualify as enby? or would I qualify as enby? I just keep telling myself "nah you aren't really an enby, stop worrying about it" but...i actually kinda want to count but i just...argh. there's doubt. there's so much doubt.

and i feel like HRT would basically turn me into a girl, which...isn't it way too far? i kinda wanted to ask people for better advice on all this but...i never got around to it. i feel like instead i should just focus on smaller changes for the time being, like for example:

- hairstyle. my hair is normally very curly and i keep wondering what style would look better while still being in line with a "feminine" look. like, i dunno if i want to keep it curly or if i want to smoothen it out or just...i'm just in the dark i guess. i've left it growing for the past 5 months now? it has reached a point where i'm actually starting to like it and i want even more hair now

- lasers, for removing body hair. i hate having body hair and facial hair and i frequently shave to get everything back to normal, and it would be nice to have a more permanent solution to the problem.

- [one thing which i'll put here for future reference, but not something i want to mention]

- maybe I should change what clothes I wear too? I always buy baggy, bland clothes, like always one size above what I should buy. there's some real comfy stuff out there that i want to try

when am i doing this stuff? this year. probably. except for the laser stuff, because that's WAY too expensive for me to do right now. but everything else? hopefully this year...hopefully

I'm used to playing the N64 tetris games so:

Magical Tetris Challenge (hella fun and unique)
Tetris 64 (JP)
The New Tetris
Tetrisphere (hey this counts right? )

I'm not used to the 7-bag system or the T-spins of newer Tetris games (Puyo Puyo Tetris for example), so I'm adjusting how I play the game to match these new features a bit more.

Posted on 09-10-20 02:29:44 PM, in (plurality) brains are weird how do they work Link
don't have a lot of time to elaborate right now and this might not make any sense but

i always saw my brain as having uh "different flows" or something

like hi this is the main flow talking here, it is responsible for communicating and surviving and interacting and basically keeping everything together. it can describe things with a weird fact-of-the-matter way with a little silliness/goofiness attached OR it can be very memetic and random and nonsensical, and that's just more or less me for most people

but this isn't really me, it's just something I've had to attach to myself in order to function at all. in order for me to actually feel like myself i have to deliberately shut off that part of my brain from running

I don't know, sometimes I think that "core" me is mute, like, he'll be very introspective, affectionate, sensitive and empathetic but he's not going to actively speak anything, in contrast to "main flow" me which is very talkative but sorta indifferent towards everything. If you've ever heard about personality functions, I'd say that the top 2 of an INFJ (so, "Ni" and "Fe") are the core flow I described, and the bottom 2 ("Ti" and "Se") are the main flow.

They both need different names too because the current ones are meaningful, but extremely generic:

main -> because it is the default one, the one that's active the most, it is the "outer me"
core -> because it is core me, i am not myself without it, it is the "inner me"

If I were to draw each flow as a character, they'd both be different characters, if that means anything.

what does this all mean? i have no idea i'm still figuring this out

I've been playing a bit of Terraria with some online friends, and more recently Among Us with a few people I know IRL, but it's been fairly infrequent.

I need to give a mention to Lumines Remastered, because it's been THE game I've been playing when I need to zone out and just forget about life for a little bit. I've heard it described as an "acid-trip"-like game, and hell it's the game that eventually led to the creation of Tetris Effect (same developers). It's been a wonderful de-stressor for this insane year.

I wish Enhance Games would stop making exclusivity periods for Tetris Effect, I was really looking forward to playing it this year but apparently that will have to wait until they feel like it.
