ME runs with 1GB of RAM out of the box depending on drivers stability you maybe will have better luck with it.
A thinkpad would be a good idea tho
Also the original eeepc can do it

or on previous acmlmboard incarnations, majority joined at the age of around 15-18 and then formed a strong bond throughout the years that has been up and down but always there

Basically something that can run Windows 98SE or ME...
Where would be a place to get some good deals on this? I'm not certain, eBay sells such machines for about £50-£60 and they usually have no hard drive, and I've not got any spare HDDs.
As long as it works, and has everything, I don't mind.
Likely not gonna do anything until I'm older but it'll be really sweet to have a computer from the early XP era.
