there's a board that's dedicated to classic themes for modern windows, though every time i've installed one it's been fucky. but that's the nature of it. i doubt there's a foolproof one out there. RetroBar is a great taskbar replacement on its own though, it looks almost perfect

yeah i just tried one of them too and it was really glitchy. whereas kak's post seemed to be a flawless implementation of it. of course, the actual experience of using it may reveal its flaws—screenshots only give us a tiny slice of what a UI is like
I use SimpleClassicTheme. the actual experience mostly works, but it has a few quirks:
- The search bar only appears when the first window opened is the Control Panel (there's probably a fix to this, but I didn't bother looking for one yet)
- Only the first submenu you enter in the right click menu displays properly in Explorer windows
- Right click menus in Open/Save windows fail to display outright
- Because this is using the Classic Theme with DWM active, this confuses programs that try to use transparency effects in the title bar. There are certain "dwm redirector" DLLs that fix this, but they need to be copied to the same folder as the affected program. In practice, I only copied it to Office 2010's program folder.

I can live with this though.

There was a booklet with optical illusions that inexplicably had the full picture of Wario Land's box art in one of the pages. I distinctly remember being confused as to why they'd put something like that.

I know that booklet is still somewhere at home, but I haven't seen/found it in 10 years if not more.

Nah, see, it's easier to just find your way up the ranks as a mod.
funnily enough, IIRC mods could literally find where they were in the ranks -- as in, go to the Ranks page, and read all of the ranks without any pesky ??? entries in the way. oh, and the lack of the postcount requirement, of course.

I've drawn another avatar, which meant yet again fighting against the mouse.

It's based off this mspaint drawing I made a couple of days ago:


I reshaded part of it, since I can't let the shading be a downgrade from the previous avatar. :V

but the color of the skin didn't look right to me, so I changed it:


and then I fit it into what used to be the recommended avatar limit (200x200).

hello

essentially a collection of links and a (free) host for my php stuff, which I update whenever I feel like.
the site design itself is inspired by Xkeeper's old website from 2006 but without any images and with a secret animated background. the inspiration was slightly more obvious in the previous background-less iteration.

it's also home to an archive of acmlmboard versions and to BadnikNET's old QDB with its legendary McRib Story.


in practice, I barely update the website these days. I've been tempted time and time again to make an "opinions" page (similar to toastytech's one) or review/information pages about games (ie: describing Wario Land's numerous bugs and quirks, code comparisions of the KOF96 bootlegs and why KOF R-2 has a completely different custom engine that bears no resemblance to Gaibrain's code, why Aladdin II is an atrocity, etc...) but my selective knows no bounds

Yeah, this is one of the features I've added to the fork years ago, as its separate 'css' field that doesn't receive the newline-> br conversion and gets automatically wrapped by a style tag.

Such a field of course needs to be handled in the exact same way as the header and footer fields when it comes to the peculiar way the 'postlayouts' table is handled (to save space).

The only part I've considered slightly dubious though is the edit post window, since it also needs the separate textarea to edit the CSS. Having four of them looks a bit cluttered, especially when I originally wrote that feature, on a laptop with a low screen resolution

I don't write things, but I have some ideas in mind... which mostly involve about a fun video game plot that is "epic", provides an excuse to visit various places while not particularly getting in the way (I guess in a similar style to Sonic 3 & Knuckles?).

The fun challenge is having something that makes sense and is logical while not being just random things happening... actually no, the fun challenge is the game itself.

If I ever make a real game, chances are there'd be no real plot due to the running out or otherwise not being able to decide about the details and just cutting it out before it even gets implemented.

the ideal way I'd do it would be through a separate subdomain so the user gets to choose (kind of like reddit.com / old.reddit.com)

in practice, if I actually had to implement it on bplaced (free host)... I would probably just set it as an option through cookies, and give the user a togglable choice.
