Well I knew Pac was Irish since 2006 or whatever when I used to ask him about those old Super Mario World hacks he was making (Super Mario Bros 1/3, Super Mario Land 2 etc).... say, what actually happened to that stuff anyway? And um.... have you got a new site?
Oh and for the person who didn't know Pac was Irish...

OK, basically, I want to sequence some SM64 MIDIs, however, to get them as perfect as I can, I'd like to be able to have only single "channels" playing.
Can any one tell me exactly where the pointers are for the channels, and which parts I should change to have, say only "Channel 1" or "Channel 4" playing?
In other words, how do I make it so that it only plays ONE instrument?
This is in terms of just the *.miniusf in a hex editor. |

| I think you've misunderstood me. What I want to know is... after I load a *.usf or *.miniusf file, in a hex editor, how (if at all possible), do I make it so that the USF file only plays one channel? I want to know this so that, when I sequence MIDIs, I can hear each of the instruments separately. Basically, you know how with an SPC or GBS file, you can simply "Check" or "Uncheck" the boxes to mute the channels. I heard that you can mute the channels with a USF file, but it requires a hex editor. I can do it with Banjo-Kazooie, but I can't find where the actual channels are located in Super Mario 64 USF files. |

23 mph???? Are you serious?
Tomorrow, I've got:
Mostly sunny
up to 8 degrees celsius
Winds of 20 mph (with gusts of... maybe 30mph, idk)
We've also had winds as high as 63 mph, with even stronger gusts up to 80, 90 or even 100 mph, in the past in this country (UK)....
23 mph is quite mild.... really. |

life.sleep(480000); //8 hours in miliseconds
Shouldn't that be 28800000, either that or... 8 minutes?
Anyway
um.... I absolutely suck at... programming so um... I can't think of one. |

I have been on Google, but I can't find anything at all.
Surely SOMEONE knows where the channels are. |

... and back to my question? Muting the channels? (Specifically Super Mario 64)
NOTE: I am aware of how to play USF or MiniUSF files with 64th Note or whatever it's called, in Winamp... I've played USF files since they were first around, about 2004.
But, again... where do you mute the channels after opening say....
"Super Mario 64 Main Theme.miniusf" or "Lethal Lava Land.miniusf" into HexEdit/WinHex/[insert hex editor]? |

I got that all the time. Then I stopped wearing my glasses.
(Partially because my mother's dog tried to eat my glasses when I left them sitting on the bathroom counter, but that's not terribly relevant.)
Since you brought it up, I get called Jason all the time. My grandmother also occasionally calls me Chris, which is my uncle's name...
Using simple um... algebra... <________<
Me = Harry potter, IF Michael Jackson = [the rest of the world]

.... Well as it was suggested by Metal_Man88, I want to know what is probably a very n00bish question...
If you open up a Super Mario 64 *.miniusf file in a Hex Editor, is it possible to change values, so as to make only certain channels play? If so, which values do I change, and what to? |

Ah GOD FUCKING DAMN IT!!
OK, I've asked on VGmusic.com, I've searched Google, and I've asked here, and no one's even gonna bother giving me an answer?
If you open up a *.miniusf file of a Super Mario 64 tune in a Hex Editor, is it possible to change values, so as to make only certain channels play? I.e. can you mute certain channels? If so, which values do I change, and what do I have to change them to to have only Channel 1 or Channel 2 or Channel 3 playing? |

No, it's not that easy. Here's why:
Unlike previous consoles, like the NES, GB, and SNES, which all featured multiple channels (only one note per channel), the N64's sound hardware is modeled differently. The N64 has no hardware mixer. As such, there are no "channels" in the way that you'd expect. Instead, it has 2 channels, one for left output, one for right output (stereo sound). It is up to the music engine to mix the notes together and send them to the output. Thus, the channels that you are looking for are all in the software (if they're even there at all), and the software varies from game to game.
So, the only way to mute channels would be to know how the music engine works, and know if there's some kind of command (if any) to mute channels.
I can mute channels in Banjo-Kazooie, with a hex editor though. I was wondering if it was the same with SM64.
