I'd be aware of lines like "Game was loaded once 10 years ago and worked fine."
Asking 3K for a game one can't be bothered to buy or borrow a console to snap a few pics for doesn't sound like a serious sales commitment. (NES is only the most cloned console out there. ) |

As to home console ports, I only know of SNES and Game Boy. And from, arguably the worst quality 16-bit era publisher THQ, is probably a factor in that.
Seems there were Amiga versions, but as to how much influence those would have to Americans, not sure. |

LICENSED BY NINTENDO was a mandatory addition by Nintendo of America for the NA region for third-party games, but I assume it also applied to PAL regions.
(something like, it had to be visible for at least two seconds at some point before game play can begin.
Typically they just added the text to the title screen but on the SNES there started to be more awkward changes to games to make them comply (since it was not required in Japan, where MOST OF THE SOFTWARE ORIGINATED. Brilliant thinking NoA ), such as sometimes disabling opening/title screen cutscene skipping, FF3 (6) fake title screen or Chrono Trigger double copyright notices during the title scene.) |

What? Did JAG the TV show not get a video game, so that is why it's not the topic?
But seriously though, consoles then usually didn't have a file system and not anything to "open" or "explore". Just binary data.
Didn't Hasbro release development stuff to the public domain when they bought Atari for a time in the '90s.
Reading that stuff would probably be a place to start learn how the Jaguar works, and thus how to search for contents in the ROMs, I would guess. |

Wonder if that still applied to the Japanese version?
From what I heard, that sort of thing is what Konami liked to do with localizations. At least of the 16-bit era, no idea if they were still in that mood in the 32-bit era. |

Too bad Deep Dungeon III hasn't turned up on FDS.
The formatting of the ROM is VERY indicative of a disk to cartridge port.
(in that, as in the two FDS originals, it basically allocated one ROM each bank to what probably originated as "map" files to cover two dungeon floors each, each containing similar data at similar offsets, such as enemy data or text blocks)
(though I don't know how EXCITING such a dump would be to dig through, as it wasn't great having to fix a few serious bugs/nerf the RNG to turn the game into something reasonably enjoyable )
I recall the fourth game had different formatting and felt like a fully cart-oriented game. |

Is it a significant factor that it was written in Communist Russia?
Didn't Pajitnov's employment at the time have some situation where the Soviet government could try to claim credit for the game? |

| Make Comic Sans the default font. Simple, but it works. |

| I don't think people just take requests. They find stuff in games if they feel like looking on their own. |

If the game was shown by Sunsoft, that probably explains it.
Porky Pig was one of the many games Sunsoft's US branch was working on when it was shut down in early 1995, they licensed/sold their entire WIP catalog to Acclaim who published them near the end of the year.
Indeed there probably was a lot of work done on the games by the time Acclaim got them out. |
