You can play some Event Courses to get some new Mystery Mushroom skins!
...But don't forget you also need to beat the new, and much-harder, Gnat Attack 2 to get a new skin as well.

Stranded Pikmin Learn to Jump
(B7A8-0000-00D7-1611)

Three Pikmin are left behind at the end of the day at the bottom of a hole, and they’ll need to learn how to jump in order to get out, and cross bottomless pits in order to reach shelter!

Something that I wanted to attempt to design was a pure platforming level, or in this case, a level where enemies can’t hurt you so you can only die in pits (if at all). Because of ‘story’ reasons I didn’t have much space for difficult challenges after the early ‘tutorials’ though (especially considering I chose to have no vertical scrolling and no sub-area), but hopefully the last sections are interesting anyways?

It's really hard to make interesting and difficult platforming in SMB1 (so no wall-jumping) without any bouncing on enemies, and without any rails for moving blocks... I might try and revisit this idea later in a different game skin.

EDIT -

Finally got all the Mystery Mushroom skins! I'm not the first one on Jul to do so (Drag got 'em all a few days ago) and I'm definitely not gonna be the last (Luca's only missing a few), but hopefully I can get back to posting feedback for people that're interested (and please join me, there should always be more feedback!).

Steady Sea Sneak
(9ED9-0000-00E2-6EE7)

I'd hazard a guess and say that "SMB3 water autoscroller" is probably the combination of themes that would most easily bore and annoy players... so I tried to make one that was fairly active and hopefully fun. If you've played my very first level then you should already have a good idea of how this level should play out.

I tried to gradually increase the difficulty though. Jelectro are introduced on the non-autoscroller beginning, but the main section begins with some green Cheep Cheeps made to give you an obvious path around them before adding back in the Jelectro again and asking you to just find your own way through the obstacles. The second half keeps it just as dense while introducing a few Bloopers! A few people have said that it's probably still too easy overall though, oh well.

No one's really making new levels and posting about them recently so I'll probably just continue editing this post with new stuff until someone else comes out with a level.

Spooky Airship Blockade
(5BD2-0000-00E7-6C11)

To me, the simplest way to combine the airship and ghost house themes in the SMW skin is to make a platformer-puzzle level involving item carrying! Overall it ended up being a surprisingly-long level, though; expect to die from time-out if you make more than one major mistake (though hopefully I placed checkpoints well enough to make it less tedious).

Gemstone Volcano
(7572-0000-00EB-46CA)

There's been a few levels I've been meaning to make (a jewel cave level in NSMBU; a volcano level based on Podoboos; a level exploring the differences between the Buzzy Beetle, the Spiny and the Spike Top...) so I thought, 'Why not just put them all in one level?' I definitely tried to make a more traditional Mario level where each concept is introduced gently then remixed and stacked to make it more complex and interesting, so hopefully this level ends up being very fun and satisfying to play!

Olimar’s Greedy Cave Revisit
(9F8D-0000-00F0-948E)

Someone on Reddit shared details about SMB1's level limitations, and so I thought "Why not try and make my own SMB1-faithful level?" I've also been meaning to make a 'sequel' to my previous Pikmin level due to so many people enjoying it, though Pikmin 2 fans are probably gonna be the only ones to really recognize the Pikmin-inspired details.

Interesting level with its split paths!

The very beginning has a cute jump (either jump off the platform and get to the next platform quickly, or bounce off the Koopa but need momentum to get high enough), but I dislike the Magikoopa-in-a-box before the pipe (even if the 'good' blocks are marked by coins). I'm not sure how I feel about the tall drop in the main area leading to the checkpoint though; it's not quite a blind jump (due to the coin trail) although you probably should've had the arrow point diagonally downwards instead of straight right, but you can't go back up and reach the pipe from the bottom, whereas you can enter the pipe to the sub-area and grab that checkpoint then decide to go back if you'd rather not go through that path.

Otherwise, I'd say the sky section is the weaker of the two... Having a Lakitu far off the top of the screen pelting Goombas at you makes for unpredictable and random obstacles, and it's entirely possible to just fly straight into it without knowing where it is above you. I also think it's very weird to have the cloud platform beneath the leaf power-up, with a door leading to the end of the section; it just reeks of the "I wasn't good enough to pass the section myself" dev door that plenty of bad Expert levels include near the start, as you can only see it if you fail a jump nearby. The main section doesn't really have any obstacles I'd consider unfair, I quite enjoyed it.

To be honest, I think the level's short and easy enough to not require the checkpoints?

Hurry Up! (78FC-0000-00F0-A0F6)
Making low-timer levels is a bit complicated, because the sped-up music naturally makes players rush and make more mistakes, so you need to either force them to slow down or account for them always rushing everywhere.

First section's okay, it's very flat but there's nothing wrong with it; I think it's a bit weird there are no blocks on each side of the bridge (so people can just walk off the ledge right underneath it), but whatever. There are a lot of Lakitu but in the end they aren't really a threat (although I still can't say I like 'em being there).

The underground section isn't quite as fun though. You're required to grab the Shoe in order to jump on the long stretch of spikes to the end, but you also included a blind jump downwards, with two Red Koopas nearby; on my first attempt I landed and then immediately lost my shoe, basically costing me a life from something I didn't know was there. Otherwise the section is also fairly flat and kinda boring, with flying Fire Piranha Plants that don't even pop up from the pipes before you run past them, and then just easy-to-pass Spinies (and there's an extra shoe at the very end even if you do get hit). ...Then once you're back aboveground the few Cheep Cheeps aren't a threat and then it's the end of the level.

If you removed those Koopas and made the level design underground more complicated and interesting (be less punishing for losing the shoe, have more obstacles than just a row of Spinies), then I'd probably have starred the level.

...It's interesting that you tried to advertise the level by bringing up the autoscroll, though, because the bulk of the level (underground)... isn't auto-scroll.

Minigame Manor
(E945-0000-00F8-8443)

Something that I feel like is missing in my other more traditional levels are side-paths that lead to short minigame rooms, and so I thought I might as well practice and make a quick level with a few of ‘em! There are three minigames total, for a possible three extra lives to be gained in a 100-Mario Challenge; can you get all three in one run?

Clockwork Castle
(B713-0000-00F8-85C1)

I tried to make a more traditional SMW castle level! Everything moves on a regular cycle, hence the ‘clockwork’: platforms on rails are always moving at a constant speed, Bullet Bill launcher ‘crushers’ go up and down with regular periods, firebars are always rotating at a constant speed… The level shouldn't be too hard, it’s mostly based on timing jumps and slowing down/speeding up to avoid being crushed, but hopefully it's interesting and fun.

There's a new Event Course out, for anyone that wants Frog Mario!

And I just finished designing another level myself:

Piranha Plant Cove
(C03F-0000-00FE-0BCF)

Yet another traditional level, this time focusing on Piranha Plants! It's kinda tricky teaching how the enemy works (it doesn't appear if it's hidden in a pipe) so I tried to slow you down near 'em, but otherwise just kept them always-visible and made the challenge simply about avoiding them.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about this game, so despite still working on some Super Mario Maker levels I went ahead and bought this game!

It seems like it's a fair bit harder than the previous games (though admittedly the last one I played was Sky); at one point in the tutorial they give you a Petrify Orb to pass by two somewhat-strong opponents but I decided I wanted to save it for later, more difficult dungeons, so I retreated in a corridor to take 'em on one at a time and just try to trade blows to pass through... and proceeded to faint in the tutorial. They give out lots of dungeon items but I guess they really expect you to use 'em to get through, hahaha.

Another Splatfest just ended, winners are Burgers! And if they stick to the 'Splatfest every three weeks' thing, we'll have the next one right after Christmas, when even more players are gonna join in... That'll be interesting.

...but it turns out I appeared on someone's Splatfest stream? Pretty neat to finally have pics of me mid-battle.

And the Nice vs Naughty Splatfest just ended...

...and with an insane 59% win rate Naughty took the win.

Update's just about to come out, but I wanted to release my last set of four levels all at once before it came out, so here they are! Regardless of your tastes there's probably at least one level you'd like in this batch: a traditional level, a non-traditional stealth level, a speedrun level, a metroidvania... For the sake of space I won't bother to include any blurbs for each level though.

As well, all of them include the Giant Mushroom! It's obviously relevant for the SMB1 level but it's a cute hidden secret in the other game styles, so keep an eye out for it~

Mission: Sabotage Bowser's Depot
(A2C5-0000-0125-3D15)

Lakitu Lane
(9BEB-0000-0125-3D39)

Sunken Citadel Scavenge
(B119-0000-0125-3D58)

Half-Minute Ship Sprint
(7183-0000-0125-3D6D)

EDIT - ...Oh, that's a shame, you can't set speedrun records on your own levels. So much for playing as soon as the update hits so that I can challenge players to beat my own times...

By the way, the new bookmark site for Super Mario Maker can be found here.

Kinda wish there was a Traditional tag but oh well, bookmarking stuff is already pretty handy.
EDIT - There is now a Traditional tag.

People have found the Official Courses' original uploads in the past (ie, by the actual creators) but I was just linked to the creator of Bowser's newest course ("Bowser's Cannonball Run", I think), which was a course that I really liked. If you wanna replay an earlier version of it you can find it here, and you can also check his profile for a few much-harder sequels to it.

Stranded Pikmin Learn to Leap
(9909-0000-015D-D52B)

Three Pikmin fall off the side of a cliff near the end of the day! They’ll need to learn all about how to jump in order to hop through a clearing, traverse a cavern and find shelter before dusk.

Yeah, it's a remake of an earlier level of mine. I was always disappointed by how easy it was up until the checkpoint at which point it suddenly demands a perfect running jump, but making a level without vertical scrolling or a sub-area was very limiting, so I thought I'd try and smooth out the difficulty curve.

It's still a no-enemy obstacle course level, which is pretty difficult to make in SMB1 without all the fancy spinjumps and air stalls and walljumps from future games. People who play Mario games a lot shouldn't have trouble with this level (up until the optional reach-the-top-of-the-flagpole challenge, at least) because I designed the level with the idea of having someone who barely knows how to play gradually learning about the limits of stationary jumps, walking jumps, running jumps, mid-jump acceleration...

I also took the opportunity to include some references to my earlier Olimar level, haha.

I've been getting back into Splatoon lately, I've obviously been playing Super Mario Maker a lot, but what I've been doing in my spare time as well...

...has been playing MH4U and aiming for 100% awards. Huzzah!

Feels nice to finally have 'perfected' the game after over 900 hours of gameplay, all that's left at this point is the never-ending grind for random flawless weapons, so who knows how much more I'll be playing this. I still have Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon to get back into, as well as all the new Steam games I got...

Oh yeah, and because it's come up in IRC before, I thought I'd screenshot this for posterity:

Luca kept bringing up the idea of taking one's courses and blending them into a Remix Level of sorts, and I was eventually convinced to try it out myself. I mean, considering this is about my 21st level or so, it's not like I'm missing sources to draw inspiration from... But trying to include bits from every single level would mean I'd have less than one screen per level, so in true Rhythm Heaven fashion I picked four levels to base this remix on.

Can you guess which four they are? =P

Crusher-Ship Infestation
(F047-0000-019B-39DF)

This was made on somewhat short notice and with minimal playtesting (only about four-five hours of work total), so it might not be as polished as my usual levels. Sorry!

EDIT - It's a few days late now, but it's not my birthday anymore, so I took out the fake-out easter egg and put in an actual boss.

It's been three weeks since I've played SMM but I've been incredibly dissatisfied with the boss from my Crusher-Ship Infestation level, so today I went back and tried a different idea for it (while also adjusting a few other things in the main level). Could people check out both versions and give some feedback?

Old one is still F047-0000-019B-39DF;
new one is 6020-0000-01C2-F910.

I'd give you much more detailed feedback but, uh, you don't own the game. Still, even though the level's fairly obviously a 'my first level' with a lot of experiments but without a cohesive theme to the level, I do like how you don't punish the player with a death pit if they fail the jumps near the start, and how you made sure that the last 'puzzle' near the end can't be made impossible.

...Oh yeah, and there's a new Mystery Mushroom skin if you go back through the event courses.

I was planning on doing the Hoshido and Nohr routes a few times each to get used to the new mechanics but they're very good at guild-tripping you regardless of your decision... I'll probably only do each one once (starting with Birthright) then move on to Revelations.

Man, getting all the supports is gonna be complicated though...

I mostly joined it for the regular My Nintendo coins (currently eyeing the Picross game when I have more time to play it), but the Miifoto thing is pretty fun and I kinda wish there were an easier way to share them. As it is, you can only share pics in-app if they're your latest "you changed your clothes, show them off" pic (in which case you can only include your one Mii) or if you comment on an answer with a Miifoto (which no one I've friended seems to do much...).

Anyways, I'm still looking to add people because the last bonus for adding friends is at 20 total friends, if people are actually using Miitomo .

Game came out a few weeks ago in America; been playing the game on and off (when I'm not busy playing Fire Emblem Fates, ha) and I've been enjoying it so far! Only just reached a point where I feel like I have a decent number of jobs and can easily grind them up about halfway to max level so I'm starting to play around with party compositions and stuff; my favorite part of Bravely Default was having an optimized endgame party to take down the difficult StreetPass bosses on Hard and it's looking like stuff is eventually even more broken in Bravely Second, so that'll be neat to reach eventually.

Do we know if European and American versions of BS can interact? Like, it seems like SQEX is sending Neo ____ bosses now in Europe, whereas we're still only getting the regular versions in America, and it'd be neat to get those bosses early here in America if it's possible to send them via friends online between regions.

Anyways yeah, I also tend to send Special attacks by default. I'm not to the point of having a Rejuvenation that revives, full-heals, gives MP and gives BP yet, so it's just an actual attacking Special instead, but if people wanted me to send a specific spell or something (White Wind is always convenient) then I could update anytime.

Latest Miitomo Drop board has marriage suits and dresses and stuff, it's super-cute!

Still nice to check up on every so often, trying to come up with cute Miifotos has been a neat game in and of itself.
