Hello Everybody. I recently registered as I wanted to share something that I haven't seen documented elsewhere.

A couple of months back, I downloaded a Luigi's Mansion gamerip in .MP3 format, and I noticed that at the very end of the soundtrack there were several songs that were claimed to be unused. There were three that I think were used, but there were three more I can't recall hearing anywhere in the game, and I thought they would be interesting to share.

The first one is a simple five-second drumbeat. Probably some sort of test track:

The second one was in the gamerip also, but it seems as if somebody already beat me to it and uploaded it. It's Totaka's theme being played on Melody's piano. I've played through the game several times and I have never heard this song being played on Melody's piano:

A website named Luigi's Bigger Mansion has documented some unused text. Some of the unused texts involves Melody questioning Luigi about the song, along with three possible names for the song (the two wrong ones are misspellings of Totaka's name):

There's a third song that's simply the first few notes of the original overworld theme in Super Mario Bros. on a zylaphone, but I don't recall hearing it anywhere. It's around the same length as the "Get Important Item" theme, so they may have intended to use it (or did use it) if you picked up one of Mario's dropped items. From my memory, the "Get Important Item" song plays for every one of Mario's items. I don't have this uploaded yet, but I'll upload later when I'm not lazy.

So, has anybody heard anything about these songs before?

It could be. The creator of the rip however did mention he hacked the game to disable SFX to record the music, though some I think were taken straight from the disc. He has what is claimed to be an unused space room, though it seems to be the Total Score jingle looped (NOT the jingle you hear if you complete a chapter, it something else he claims is unused, though I SWEAR I've heard it before...).

I can post them onto the Wiki in .ogg format, though I'm not sure if that would be considered "stealing"...Could somebody tell me if it would be stealing if I did just that? He gave out the soundtrack for eveyone to download and it wasn't anything private.

I already documented this on the Wiki (under my Youtube user name), but I have a collection of .ADX files from a "Sonic Mega Collection" game rip that I obtained two weeks back or so. Along with the unused Softdec codec video, there's also a file called "Demosound.adx". This file is a track from Sonic Adventure 2, and it's name implies that it may have been used to test the ADX sound format.

Yet again, why didn't Sega just remove all of these unused files? That would have left TONS of room for Sonic CD. I think they wanted to port the Sega/Mega CD version, but couldn't because emulation for the add-on wasn't perfected at the time. After all, didn't Mega Collection use some sort of modified version of GENS to emulate the Genesis titles?...But then, why didn't they just port the PC version like they did in Gems Collection?
