7000 is related to a service failing to start
1011 is related to logging failing to log some things
6009 is unexpected restart.

So, maybe see what service fails to start and perhaps disable it if it is safe to disable?

Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

ChooseAdd a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name ie. My computer's name is basement and the printer name is EpsonSty so I typed in \\basement\epsonsty
How do I figure out the printer name so I can try this?

Printer name is the name of the printer that it is shared as. You can get to it via the "Sharing" tab when you view the properties of the shared printer.

The computer name is based on the "Full Computer Name" (minus the dot) listed in the "Computer Name" tab under System Properties. The easy way to get there is to select properties when right clicking on My Computer icon or pressing Windows Key+Pause/Break key.

13-inch, 0.75" thick notebook, anyone?

Very impressive, but I wonder what is the battery life of this thing? The parts seem very delicate too (like seems the hinge is the weakpoint of the entire thing).

there should be more videos where the translation has nothing to do with the video itself

there should be props to the japanese because well, I can't think of any other country coming up with stuff like this.

seeing that video that Anya posted up also reminds me of the learn engrish aerobics videos.

Posted on 01-30-08 07:15:47 AM, in The same HTML code, same CSS file, so why does IE render it differently for different pages (last edited by neotransotaku at 01-30-08 04:17 AM) Link
Using IE6, do the following:

  • Check out the footer for Page 1. The footer looks continuous and nothing seems different.

  • Now, check out the footer for Page 2. The footer is no longer continuous. It looks like the left part is repeated again.

Comparing source code of the pages, they are exactly the same. So, what the hell is going on (besides the fact that IE has a craptastic HTML-rendering engine)? What could I do to not have this problem? Yes, it looks fine in Firefox and yes, I need to make an IE6 compatible version.

emacs is my primary choice of editor for UNIX. On windows, and I'm not programming using Cygwin, then it is Textpad.

Anyways, shouldn't this be in Programming forum?

outside of the OS itself, firefox and JVM tends to eat up lots of VM. I know firefox runs pretty sluggish once it occupies 200MB.

You'd need something more thorough to fix that; unfortunately the best thing I know of is Spinrite which costs $89.

But it probably would fix all your hard drive-related problems.

it can fix hardware failure too?

Ha ha ha ha, of course not. It can delay the inevitable death of a hard drive, but it cannot obviously reach in and fix malfunctioning hardware pieces.

I ask you why you asked that; for either it means you thought somehow I didn't know fixing the hardware problems with a hard drive via software is impossible, or that you yourself didn't know that.

I should have qualified that post with a . If I didn't know that software couldn't fix mechanical hardware failure, then I am not worthy of even having a computer science degree.

Posted on 02-05-08 11:29:41 PM, in Linux Partition Migrating Link
When I installed gentoo linux, I only made a 5GB partition in VMWare. Now, I need to make some more space. Assuming I have a larger 10GB partition available, what is the best program to help me move all that data from the 5GB partition to the 10GB partition? I do not want to reinstall gentoo again.

Also, although my knowledge of the linux boot process is quite limited, i am open to messing around with it if there are good docs out there.

Posted on 02-06-08 06:29:54 AM, in Server Woes Link
More likely than not, there is a firewall in the way. Opening a port should do the trick. This also assumes that the computer running the server is separated from the Internet by just that firewall. If you are running WinXP, then you will also need to open port 80 in Windows Firewall.

If for some reason, apache is running in a VMWare instance, you will need software port forwarding on said OS.

Posted on 02-09-08 06:25:43 AM, in How much would you pay for water? Link
So, I was watching Nightline tonight and they had a segment on designer water. By designer, I mean luxury brand water. Analogous to jeans from target vs. the most expensive clothing brand you can think of. I felt it was ridiculous what some people would pay: $30 for a Japanese brand, $40 for water from India, and to the upwards of $60 dollars for an English brand.

So yeah, would you pay for such a thing? Supposedly, one can tell the difference between some of them. *shrugs* I won't drink tap water explicitly, but I wouldn't fork over an arm and a leg and a portion of my torso for some of that stuff.
