have you tried to launch the internet browser the way many people do it? double-clicking on the icon of the program? doing this would show whether it is the browser or the button itself that would crash your computer.
Is the browser you use Internet Explorer?

| I know for AT&T, they give you dial-up as a backup when the DSL is wacked. Not sure about Comcast. |

Yeah, it's called the neighbour's wifi.
Apparently there are 5 wifi connections being broadcast from neighbors around me, so I have plenty of backups if mine fails. :rof--
And each of them do not have WEP (or its cousins) enabled? |

And you tried to update apache? Apache takes more than 1 minute to start? I have apache compiled from cygwin and it starts up in less than 10 seconds. |

| It is why kids born here in the US via sperm donations have an insanely difficult time to find out who their dads are because of this very issue. Many of the men chose to remain anonymous because they fear they will have to pay child support. I think that is a shame because as an individual, having a sense of where you come from is very important. Why should these kids be denied this information? |

So, by living outside the US, you are free to use US based things (like this board), and not be liable for what you say about the US. So, that means, if you upset the government, you can't ever set foot in the US without getting arrested. |

However, you should use a vacuum cleaner hose to collect the dust you do blow off with compressed air. It will save your lungs and those around you sensitive to dust.

Someone is definitely going to do that, but I never understood the motivation people get from making records from doing crazy, weird stuff. Other that having your name published in a record book for a year (because inevitably someone else will beat your record by the next release of Guiness), I don't see any benefits.
The benefit is 15 minutes of fame. |

Have you tried the hint here.
Might be overkill but you could download VMWare, install some version of linux (I choose gentoo), install and load apache there, then port forward from vista to VMWare image.
It is what I had to do in order to get mysql to work because mysql doesn't like my windows installation for some reason. |

I can't see this being a big problem for me.
Unless the Canadian authorities agree on your extradition. Who knows what leverage the U.S. government can pull. |

Yeah, Apple is nice because there is only 1 hardware to support. If apple can't take care of that then there must be something wrong.
Anyways, I say stick with the OS that has given you the least amount of trouble. I have stuck with windows because well, it hasn't pissed me off to the point other people in this thread have experienced. WinXP has done well for me and I am waiting for SP1 before using Vista (or until I have a need to reinstall windows).
OSX is nice, very nice but it I don't like the idea of shelling out almost 2x the amount of money for a computer I could get for half the price and have equivalent functionality.
Linux is good if you do not mind dealing with compatibility issues when the crop up. There are a lot of cool stuff you can do with linux if you are willing to wade through google to find your answer. Setting up linux requires a wired (not wireless) internet connection however.
That is my two cents. |

Aside from that minor gripe (the images were a little off), it was fine, albeit bright...
yeah, i liked tarale's layout. For the other people, are they in the dark when they come here? |

Um... no.
My laptop was set up without a wired internet connection, and it worked fine. Don't know where you got your info from, but it's far from the truth.
Whoops, I meant to say you should have one available. In my experience, I always need to download something to get something set up, or to find information on why something isn't configured correctly and stuff. If the laptop is the only computer available, and wireless doesn't work after you installed linux, life sucks. |
