I run gentoo as my work laptop. I'm happy with it. I like the control of installing only the components I will actually use. Still haven't figured out how to filter a few more things out of gentoo (i.e. localization) but it is nice not to have to install something that I won't ever use. However, it is a pain at times to get certain things to work (i still haven't figured out how to get IME to work, and hibernation) but the documentation is out there.

Gentoo's biggest drawback to many people is that it does take forever to update your software since you must compile it yourself. However, chances are if you optimize the each of the software to the hardware you are running, then it surely will be worth the time?

The thing is, programmers will be able to adapt to linux and I guess the business people will now start using OSX. It seems apple stock is going up even more

if you are unsure, don't do it. Because modding it is likely an irreversible process, and once you are banned from the internets with your xbox, then I do not think you can get back on without buying a new one. any 360 owner can confirm?

The most popular system will have the most crap games for it. It was true for the NES, SNES, PSX, and PS2. Since the Wii is the most popular system, it has the most amount of crapware. I remember reading this from an article somewhere.

I haven't touched my Wii since I played Twilight Princess early last year, and only got a PS3 for FF13. Other than that, they've all been collecting dust

Graphics-wise, I think PS3 has better graphics hardware, but many developers can't take advantage of it on the PS3 from what I've heard. However, in this day and age for consoles, can people tell the difference? There is difference between generations, though. Tried playing FF9 on PS3 and I can't believe how ugly it was. 10 years ago, that was state of the art. Go figure. =P

You know...if the laptop dies, you can always access the data (as long as the HD is intact) by pulling the HD out and putting it into one of these

Only costs like $10 or so.
Also, it it is cheaper to buy the enclosure and hard drive than it is to by the combined parts

All the more to maintain your teeth so that you don't have to get any serious work done. =)

As a dentist, it is interesting to see chatter about how the public views the directions dentist give them.

I had a laptop once that was overheating and would shut down. When I opened it up, I found a ginormous dustball blocking the entire heatsink air exit. Once I removed it, it fixed the overheating problems. I'm sure there are youtube guides out where as well as maintenance guides from Toshiba that will tell you how to open your laptop.

Newer graphics cards need more power supply power...so the instabilities you might be experiencing could be related to it pulling more current than can be supplied. If you don't have one at least 500W (or even 600W), then you are going to need a new power supply for sure.

What did you do to throw it out so that I shall learn from your mishap? This is not the first time you've done this has it?

There shouldn't be codeine in OTC cough medicin...unless it is not highly regulated as it is in the US

Yes, chemistry is important...but grades aren't everything, although good grades make your quest a lot easier. Your profile suggests you are relatively young. In the US, there is always means of redemption to eventually make it into medicine. The average age of a first-year US med student hovers around 25-ish. Not sure how it works in other parts of the world, though.

Oh, btw, if Medicine is what you want, then you should strive for it. But it doesn't always hurt to have a plan E. Plan for both. I'm a programmer and a dentist.
