Best advice I've got on that one is find a way to get to a point where you can eventually do things for yourself that make you happy, regardless of others and regardless of how simple it might be for yourself.
This is it. I don't think older people are actually
happier, we're just better able to find and actualize things that make us happy. In my late 20's as I saw my friends take up expensive hobbies (and I did as well!) I realized that there's no such thing as a cheap hobby. Even rock collecting, if you're actually interested in it has expenses.
But as you get older, you get more disposable income (unless you come from generational wealth), and so you're able to say, "Hey, I really like playing with old computers, so I'll buy some and tinker," or "I like developing games, so I'm going to block off this time that I wouldn't be doing anything else because all my friends are working/invested in their own hobbies."
We're not happier, we're just more sure of who we are, and we're able to chase our happiness. Hopefully, you'll be able to in your own time.
