On the one hand, it's a way to stick it to the man. We don't need no stinkin' search engines! On the other, think of how many communities have been found by an errant search.

And on the first hand again, if anyone could just find Jul, it wouldn't be "just us", would it (Now there's a dumb question from someone who is not a part of the original us!)?

Maybe I'm thinking about someone else, I've seen a bunch of people who have a kind of knockoff neopet on their home pages, but it was just a static thing for fun.

I started playing The Outer Worlds recently, and since then a lot of people have inundated me with questions about how I like it, only to tell me that they got bored of it really quickly. Like, okay? Sorry 'bout it, but that's a reason I rarely buy games new. I paid <$30 for it and I'm having a great time. I have 21 hours in the game so I'd say that's a pretty good use of the money!

For reference, I use the movie comparison with video games. If I can buy a game and have fun for less than $8/hr then it's a pretty good price to pay, since that's about what it would cost to go see a movie.

Transport Tycoon was the first simulator game I ever played, and I can still pick it up and enjoy it to this day. The only other simulator I ever enjoyed as much was Roller Coaster Tycoon. Cities Skylines was also great on my first city, but I often find myself frustrated that I can't make, for example, a rail oriented city.

I will do anything or fight anyone for Parvati. That said, while I want to see what happens in Parvati's story, I'm not very interested in most of the actual tasks themselves, since it's more or less a long fetch quest. The only other companion quest I've done is Vicar Max's, and while I was really engaged in it, I found the ending to be a bit lacking.

But the way the companions talk to each other has been fantastic. It's almost annoying because they always start talking as I'm approaching something, but I so want to hear what they have to say to each other!

I might get the Mario Game and Watch if someone manages to unlock the thing so I can put a general purpose NES emulator on there. It's really cute, I can't imagine a better way to bring NES (And maybe DMG/GBC?) games around!

But yeah, for just one game, that I have a thousand copies of anyway... And I prefer playing Mario 35, so there's just no reason for it, except that it's cute. And let's be real, it's super cute!

Ahh, Haiku is one of my favorite projects to follow but never use. I'm glad it's working out for you! Is that really your main OS?

Same here. I never understood the idea behind having a multitasking operating system and huge monitor and using it to display a single web browser.

Playing Animal Crossing New Horizons again. It is a fun game, just not the kind of thing I can play all day every day, like older entries in the series.

I think you're wrong. Not that computers are boring, but that it's a recent thing. RGB is new, but the crazy bezels and lights have been going on since the 00s. The differences between OSes may be going away, but that's a good thing. No more worrying about if your floppies are mac or PC formatted. Cursor and icon packs are still around, maybe you're just not looking for them anymore?

Yeah, MS, Google, and Apple have gone all in on this flat design thing, but "Linux" is not standardizing on KDE... It can't because Linux is not a single entity. Yes, KDE and Gnome are chasing the recent trends, but they always were, the target demographic of those desktop environments is the casual user who wants something that looks like the main OSes out there. There's still OpenStep, CDE, a myriad of tiling window managers, and even with Gnome and KDE you can get packs that have all the beveled buttons and looks like Windows 95.

Yes, computers are boring. But they've been boring since the 90s.

I suppose my thought on that is, we were all once on teamspeak, then everyone moved to Skype, then to Discord. Eventually, people will move from Discord, and if we start getting our friends used to the idea of Matrix, maybe we can make that the next move?

Since my last post I've put kUbuntu on my gaming PC, hoping to try out some of that VFIO I've been hearing so much about so I don't have to use Windows except when I absolutely need it. I'm also using Plasma for the first time ever, and I must say, I really miss KDE 4.

I haven't played 3D All Stars, but I've recently played SM64 on a 64, and the controls are pretty jank, especially when you compare to, say, Mario Odyssey. The weirdness comes from the controls being exactly the same as a modern Mario game, but they just lack the polish.

I think it mostly holds up, but only if you're willing to take that grain of weirdness and remember that it was more or less the first 3D platformer that was any fun to play.

Now that's an interesting take... Computers were more interesting when you could theme them, but you had to use a third party program to get the customization you want... A third party application that still exists and works with Windows 10. Maybe it wasn't the computers that got boring?

Might it have been Faxanadu? That's a very brown game. It's sidescrolling, but there might have been some top-down portions.

So I bought a pair of Kanto Yu 4 speakers, and ohhh boy do they sound great! I am not an audiophile by any means, but I do enjoy listening to music, and oh dang. Ooooh dang these are some amazing sounding speakers. And they've got a remote so I can turn down my records from across the room when my phone rings or whatever.
