it's ok, i'm sorry i said that to you which was uncalled for, i was feeling sort of defensive. i understand why someone wouldn't like my layout although i do have an issue where i hyperfocus on white text in dark themes and end up tiring out my eyes. i switched to light themes again b/c of this, but i know it's not the same for everyone.

i ended up changing my layout anyway, i hope this is a little nicer for everyone.

actually i got a DSi for the same reason. they were really easy to come by at thrift stores at one point where i used to live. i barely game these days, but i still know that this was the best way to experience DS games if i ever decide to start diving into the DS library.

im thinking im going to grab a dsi the next time i have significant amounts of money
there's a really easy way to hack it nowadays
it doesnt involve any sort of downloadable app which is no longer accessible like flipnote or dsi browser
i probably wont use it all that much as i'm already occupied with persona q2 on 3ds
(and mario maker 2 soon)
but still. nice to have, cool to play with, yknow?

not directly related to music ive been listening to lately but
how d'you (speaking generally, not abt anyone in particular)
make stuff like music feel like, really good and enjoyable?
like the way it used to feel when i found new music
it made me rly happy and feel good idk
i guess im asking how to undo years of depression

been thinking about this stuff a lot again lately
mostly because i live by both a baskin robbins and a burger king
so every time i go to the supermarket,
i have to see all these horrid like, nostalgitisements
for stranger things or whatever, old 80s logos and faux wood paneling and shit

its pretty clear that corporations are like...
deeply desperate for late gen-xers/early millennials to end up like boomers
in the sense that theyre trying their damndest to twist our sense of nostalgia
like a knife
to turn it from something we can use to motivate ourselves,
something we can point to to say
"hey, some things were genuinely better back then.
lets do something to progress back to that place"
into something that we use to justify resting on our laurels,
complaining that everything's so bad now,
unlike what we had back then, which was good

like...how do i put this less wordily...
knowing that nostalgia is a powerful motivator,
they want to take a generation that feels rudderless and scared,
and direct us in the direction that makes us most pliant and docile for their purposes,
which are, of course, making money

it's the same motivation as like,
making us feel like there's no hope for anything to change ever
as much as it can feel that way,
if we give up, they get what they want, at the cost of all the rest of us
so they strongly encourage us to be like, doomers or whatever,
to just consider it all a lost cause, instead of fighting for change
its so obvious and yet so insidious at the same time. it's kind of ridiculous

anyway there wasnt really any point to this post except like. dont fall for it
theres still something we can do. nothing is ever a lost cause.

its still kind of surreal to me

it's an acer predator helios 300
supposedly a "mid-range" model
but it has a fuckin i7 and a gtx1060 in it

im so used to having hand me downs and busted old things,
that having something like this, all fancy and shiny,
and relatively new (it's a refurbished model)
feels like a trick or a prank or something,
like "haha just kidding you cant have this, youre too poor!"
and itll just get taken away

but, i customized it with a bunch of cute stickers
its mine now. im never letting go

idk that the engine in gen 8 is all new,
so much as it is a continual development/iteration on the same engine theyve been using since gen6,
in the same way that gen 5 was an iteration on gen 4's engine,
which in itself had parts that were an iteration on gen 3's engine
gen6 was just the first time they had to mostly start from scratch since gen3,
so they likely decided then and there to code the new engine in a more portable,
and more generalized, reusable form

that said, the engine is only so much of the game's content
i can understand why they didn't put every single pokemon into sword/shield
it comes down to the obligations and schedules they have to meet for other parts of the pokemon franchise
the sun and moon anime is winding down, the last bits of merch are being sold,
last few event pokemon on the schedule are being distributed, and so on

we may imagine that sword/shield development started right after sun and moon came out,
and that may be partially true; there was that "pokemon stars" rumor,
which iirc turned out to be game freak doing an engine test on the switch using sun/moon assets
and we can obviously imagine that story planning, pokemon and human design and such started at that point
but the actual development of the game in earnest almost certainly took much longer
it's possible it only began in earnest in 2017 or 2018,
depending on how much manpower developing ultra sun/moon and let's go took away from sw/sh dev time

also, every last old-gen pokemon that appears in the new games needed a new model.
the models in gen 7 are not necessarily trash, and im sure they could be used to start from,
but they're definitely made for a lower resolution than the switch's,
and using them straight on the switch would likely expose deficiencies in the models
i imagine we'll see a lot of kanto pokemon available in galar,
since they already had to do that work in order to get kanto pokemon ready for let's go

so given that theyve been pressed into a corner in terms of time constraints,
i honestly understand why not everything is in sword and shield
i dont mean this necessarily to defend the choice they made,
i wish they had the ability to push back and say "hey,
we need more time or else we're gonna be doing some pretty hard crunch",
but this is where we're at

one thing that works in game freaks favor is that unlike the 3ds,
the switch's update system isn't complete balls

on the 3ds, iirc,
patches require you to send down an update with at least a placeholder for EVERY FILE in the base game,
even if you're only actually touching one or two files
this is why some games, like smash 3ds, use a very particular file structure
where you have everything packed into one file in the romfs,
and the executable can check for dlc/updates in similar but much smaller packed files.

anyway, on the switch it's much more sane and you just send down the files you need
so i can imagine them patching in more pokemon later on and having them become available for transfer
or even like, releasing them as dynamax raid battle pokemon that you can get in the postgame,
kind of like raid bosses in pokemon go, or the spirit board events in smash ultimate

wow ah anyway sorry for the gigantimaxed post, i just have, like, Feelings about crunch in gamedev

ive been enjoying this game, "curses 'n candies"
it's basically an arcadey sort of game,
where you have to defeat ghosts and monsters with a flashlight
it's free to play, and if you play it in airplane mode there's no ads
i found it easy to pick up how to play, but hard to master
still working on its new game+ mode, curse crusher
its on both ios and android for what its worth

yeah, the place where it's at doesn't have nearly enough room for them to bake em fresh there
im pretty sure they truck them up from the closest krispy kreme that has baking facilities,
which is on the edge of evergreen park, around 15 miles south of the loop
so it's like, yeah, it's not *fresh* fresh, but it's not like they're stale either

i dont *always* feel like a girl!
which somehow, to me, was a revelation,
despite me feeling this way, on and off,
for almost the entire time ive known i was trans.
anyway, i'm a demigirl now.
