Top round steaks are on sale at the local supermarket and I ended up getting two. I prepared the second for dinner tonight by searing it on medium-high heat and then put it in an oven at 275°F for about 24 minutes. It came out perfectly tender and juicy, which is pretty difficult to get from a cut of meat like this. Delicious.
Served with calrose rice and gravy. -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. |

I had rice, bacon and an omelet filled with diced shiitake mushrooms.
The last meal I cooked before that, though, was steak and eggs made with a cheap piece of ribeye from the local Vietnamese grocery store. I fried the ribeye on medium-high heat for six minutes—three each side—and that came out absolutely wonderful. -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. |

Sofi's new layout, using a vectorized floral pattern, intentionally channels the minimalist, ’70s-inspired æsthetics of assorted independent boutiques in the Alberta Arts District of Portland, Oregon. The soothing pastel colors and distinctly American design challenge the trends of dark, masculine colors and corporate animé-character properties typically seen in Jul layouts. The result is a timeless design that is nostalgic yet thoroughly modern.
“that layout makes me want to put on some Bass Weejuns and head down to the local coffee shop for some fair-trade coffee” — BMF “very nice layout i like the avant-garde yet vintage botanical arrangement” — GirlyDragon Originally posted by Miranda July -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. ✿ |

I happened upon a Logitech Rumblepad 2 Vibration Feedback Gamepad the other day at a Goodwill for $5 and since then I've been playing LSD: Dream Emulator at night with friends. It's a pretty eccentric and disturbing game.

I photographed eight shows (including a wedding show) and did one beach photoshoot this month and I'm like worn out—more from all the partying and less from all the photography. So today when my friend announced she was going out to Rattlesnake Lake I was tempted to throw away my day of rest and head to the mountains with her.
It's tough admitting to yourself that you need rest when you're a person who tends to be so active. I could probably go (and I really really want to) but I'd just be lying around and not really be engaging. I'm encouraging my partner to go without me because she needs to spend more time making friends and stuff without having me around as a crutch. It'd be super cool. I hope she has fun. -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. ✿ |

Woah, a nine-year-old? Crazy!
I remember when I first started forum-ing and I was just a nine-year-old, too. We told ourselves one day we'll have members who were born after we first started using the Internet and it'd remind us how old we were. We were right, kinda. Well, that's pretty rad, little dude. Welcome to Jul! -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. ✿ |

The other day I totally rearranged everything in my living room because I realized the set-up I had made for über-awkward workflow. It was totally drab, man! I had the computer in the corner and, to use it, you'd sit with the front door, the windows and the rest of the room behind you. And since it was the corner, you'd be able to see like nothing in your peripheral vision except parts of the wall. It felt super cramped and super claustrophobic and I had trouble concentrating after a while. Also, the sofa would be across the room with the windows behind it and if it was ever hot and we opened the windows and watched a movie, the noise from outside would drown out the movie and it'd be hella annoying!
So I made it into this: ![]() (Excuse my sparsely decorated apartment! We are only just starting to add decorations!) The desk was now against the window and I could easily see most of the room from this angle, including the front door (which is super important) and suddenly my workstation felt way more open and welcoming and watching movies or playing video games or just working felt simply awesome. And that was cool until I changed my desktop to a picture of city lights until I realized that the picture was too dynamic and created a lot of energy and I'd get restless so I swapped it out for a dark blue picture of mountains and also I had to be careful about the windows being open because the wind outside is pretty stimulating to but anyway it got me thinking about what makes a workstation super efficient and also what sort of configurations other people might enjoy. So what does your desk look like? What do you like about it? Do you find yourself getting restless after using it for too long? Do you have a consistent for-sure arrangement or do you feel the need to change it constantly so it doesn't bore you? Post pics! -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. ✿ |

I hate how I keep visiting Innocent Town every few weeks and then end up rereading this topic and keep piling up my disgusted replies. I hope this guy never works in food service. I can't imagine what sort of people would be exposed to his brain fluid in their food. Can you say "unintentional eggs and brains"?

It's crazy Jul's been around for 6 years, especially when I realize I've been part of it for around half of that. Real life has gotten so fast these days that I never realize how much Internet time passes anymore.

My partner deals with a lot of anxiety issues but music seems to help her so I gave her my iPod. And since then, the only time I've really had the opportunity to enjoy my own music privately is when she's out and I'm not (which is like never).
It's weird living in a state of pure ambient noise at home, but not necessarily unpleasant, I think. I'm not really sure, to be honest. Why do people listen to music? I can't decide if this is how we were before mp3 players, CD players or the Walkman existed or what. I like that I can walk down the street and say hi to a stranger and that I'm aware of what's going on around me but music is also so sweet and pleasant. It's soothing, like painkillers but without a prescription and way easier access. Sometimes I wonder if culturally we have a form of addiction to music because we love the stimulation so much. Either way, I'm not going to be in "rehab" forever. I plan on getting an iPod again soon, but this time it's going to be an older one with a black and white display and typefaced in Chicago. ![]() I'm going to get it in 20GB because it's cheaper and I figure if I've gone without music for so long I probably shouldn't feel picky about the capacity. It's not like I need every mp3 I own on my iPod, anyway. I'll keep with me only the music I cherish the absolute most, like Funeral by Arcade Fire. And if that's not enough, upgrades are so easy to get! Like, no one gives a darn about 1.8" IDE hard drives these days, so they sell for like $20 a piece. For that, maybe I'll have to wait until Christmas. Last Christmas, I got myself a Game Boy Pocket and partied like it was '96. This time I'll party like it's 2004. -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. ✿ |

This topic hasn't gotten a post all summer. Whatever.
It's been sunny almost every freaking day and I'm starting to get sick of it! I'll take eight months of rain any minute, already. -------------------- Sofi is a Seattle-based freelance artisan poster dedicated to handcrafting the finest in locally sourced commentary for over ten years. ✿ |
