| It doesn't appear to be in the 3.x/9X/ME versions (I rechecked them just now, though I'll admit it was only going over the strings output files again, and another quick run-through with a hex editor). The NT/2K versions could (and probably do) have it, though. |

Some fun involving running strings against the main EXE for the DOS version of MK2 (the original version, with the sequenced BGM). I'd originally used a hex editor, but that was a while back, and I can't find my notes... well, it's easier to cut and paste from a text file, anyway. ![]()
To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if the latter four had some way of having the game say they (the actual person) won, every time they won a match. But unless there's a way to do it across all of these versions of MK2... yeah, it's probably fake. (These are also stored apart from (and before) the regular character-wins messages.)The 'Fergality !!' message is surprising, though - supposedly, that was something you could only do on the Genesis version. Never did try it, though. (I only had the DOS version...)
I don't remember the game having an instruction manual (AP) check. Of course, it's been years since I played it... though, hell, I don't even remember a manual being in the box. If I do have one, it's not in the jewel case (there wasn't an insert in the front part of the case to begin with) and I don't know where it would be. I'm going to have to get around to trying to set it up and play it to be sure... |

Right. I only had one game that definitely did that, though - a fighter I bought cheap (Ultimate Body Blows), for no sensible reason. Never really bothered to play it, that I can recall, mainly because the AP check is a two-page (jewel-case sized manual) table consisting of tiny numbers in a bright yellow, thin font against an alternating white and gray-striped background. Fun.I just recall inserting the MK2 CD and playing it, way back when, with no manual check. I don't think I even received a manual with it. ![]() I haven't been able to get it to work again, yet, though. (Tried running it under Win98, both normally and after booting in DOS-only mode.) I still have an old tank of a HD that boots to MS-DOS 6.2.2 alone; maybe it'll work there. Unless I could get it to work in DOSBox... |

| Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get it to run in DOSBox, yet. It (mk2.exe) starts to run (or at least the DOS4GW stub does), then quits, claiming it can't find the CD drive... even though I did mount it. ...maybe I should try running it from the Windows version of DOSBox, already installed on the same system. The tower didn't like it when I tried running with the DOS drive as the main (and only) drive, either. ![]() |

Okay, I'll take a look when I finish checking the posts. ![]() I managed to get it working, though, on Win98 (booted to DOS-only mode). I realized I'd put a REM on the line in autoexec.bat that runs MSCDEX some time ago; with MSCDEX running, the game loads and runs. I didn't have any sound, though, because there's no sound card setup lines in autoexec or config.sys, including the SET BLASTER= line. And, no gamepad support (did anyone ever have a workaround for those games that only look for gamepads/joysticks on the older sound cards' gameport/MIDI interface ports, when you're trying to run them on a newer system that doesn't have that port (integrated sound, bleah) and only has USB ports?). Now that I've removed that REM, it'll probably load in 'normal' Win98, too. But, it didn't have that AP manual check, at any time. I couldn't say whether or not there is a version of MK2/PC out there that does use it, however. |

| Are you using Media Player Classic, or Media Player Classic HomeCinema? I had no problems playing RMVBs on MPCHC, the one time I had to do it, with Real Alternative installed. Of course, I keep MPCHC up-to-date with the latest beta, though, and yes, I do keep VLC updated, too. ![]() |

It could be one of those bots that have a human validate for them. ![]() Is there a way to automatically block and disable account creation for anyone who tries to create an account with an 'obvious' spambot name, like Paydayloans? I notice that this isn't the first time we've had someone create a Paydayloans account - another one was blocked on Feb. 8, for example. Of course, that'd most likely just lead to even more of the 'generic' bot usernames, but then... what doesn't? (And, there's the question of whether or not anything like that should actually be done (but what non-spammer's going to want to create an account named Paydayloans? )) |

| Yeah, Powerade always tasted a little weaker/more watery than Gatorade, to me. That it's also somewhat cheaper in this area probably doesn't help, either, in that regard. I'll drink either, but if I have a choice (between the two), I'll get the Gatorade. Sobe seems rather scarce, here, these days, along with Snapple. And I'm afraid to try the multiple Vitamin Water clones. ![]() |

Did that Carinsurancequotes bot have a valid email address, or was it actually exploiting something (hope not; I'm paranoid, though )? It seemed to get around to posting about as fast as the bots did before the new measures were implemented. ![]() |

You can install and use the 32-bit version of MPCHC (and other codecs, like the latest ffdshow) alongside the 64-bit versions, though. That's what I do, although I still tend to use the 32-bit version more. It might also help to keep an eye on this page for the latest MPCHC betas and stable versions; I don't know where the betas are originally being posted, but last I checked, they weren't being posted to the Sourceforge page. Beta v1.5.2.3114 was just posted for direct download from that page. |

Aren't the ffdshow implementations of the Real codecs still somewhat work-in-progress, like VLC's? (And, I think they don't support all of the possible Real codecs... I'm not at a system with ffdshow installed (Linux) at the moment, so I can't check the list. ) I haven't had a reason to work with the Real codecs in quite a while, so I haven't checked to see how well they're supported by either ffdshow or VLC, so I could very well be wrong.By all means, try the ffdshow method as well. I always keep both 32 and 64-bit versions of MPCHC and ffdshow installed on my 64-bit setup. ![]() |

Sorry, it's a bad habit of mine. I frequent VideoHelp, where we tend to refer to ffdshow-tryouts as 'ffdshow,' alone. That works better there, though, as the forum software autolinks the word 'ffdshow' to the Tools page, and the latest tryouts build (well, usually clsid's builds, anyway) is posted as a direct link near the top. |

| If the 'other screen' is little more than a separate screen with, say, a "Touch Here to Start!" message, I'd probably consider removing it, though. Of course, that could bring up potential problems - don't Desmume and No$ take captures of both screens at the same time? - someone less experienced in graphic editing could possibly lower the quality of the image considerably while trying to crop out the lower screen, for example. |

| Don't forget the Wii... always fun to have the blue tray light start pulsing 'after hours,' if you get a message, or something. At least you can turn it off, though. |

| In most cases, I'd probably leave it alone (and use both screens). It's the few instances where the touch-screen part of the title screen is little more than a basic (scrolling or not) background, maybe a few sprites, and a "Touch"-type message, that I start to wonder if those should be cropped. However, I have no real problem with leaving the screens as-is, so... About the cropping - I wasn't worrying about that, so much as someone who might (accidentally) degrade the quality of the image more than expected between cropping it and saving the result. |

Out of the games I have (actual carts, and the only camera I have is the crappy one in my phone, so no pictures ), the ones that come close to that description are...Children of Mana: Touch screen is black, with just a medium-sized "Press START" line of text in the middle, and a smaller line of text at the bottom of the screen: "Press [START] or tap the Touch Screen" Hoshigami Remix: The touch screen has a somewhat uneven (top to bottom) blue gradient. The only other feature is the words "Touch Screen" in a standard thin white font, inside a thin white rectangle (with black blackground). Has anyone taken a screenshot or two from those games that require you to turn the DS on its side (probably should keep this in mind for the Wonderswan, too), like Hotel Dusk and CrossworDS, and tested those to see how they'll look in the bob? |

Yeah, I was primarily wondering how it'd look, since we haven't had any pages for those types of games, yet. But as I was also blanking on the DS' screens' resolution and the resolution of the DS emus' double-screencaps, I wondered how far it might extend the bob to the left, or whether or not forcing 320px would squeeze the image noticeably. ![]() (I've checked at least one of the dual-screen images on the wiki, so you don't need to remind me of the resolutions. )Does the change (clarification) in guidelines mean that already-existing pages that only use one of the screens for the title image have to have their title screenshots replaced? A little over half of the DS game pages only use one screen (14 out of 26 pages, such as Pokemon Platinum, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart DS, and New Super Mario Bros.) |
