So, I've finished my new stronghold, the Water Palace.

A view of the western face from outside:

A view of the eastern face from outside:

The corral, right outside on the eastern face:

Coming into the palace from the west:

The overall structure of the palace is that of a four-level suspended walkway over a central pool.

The waterfalls make the top of the palace look quite impressive.

Looking down, the view is great.

In addition to looking cool, the waterfalls are an express route to the bottom, in-ground level, where I have constructed several useful chambers in the walls.

Most of the lighting here is of course natural.

In the eastern wall, under the staircase, is my pantry. Left chest contains pork and grilled pork, right chest contains wheat and bread.

In the western wall is the garden, where I grow reeds and wheat.

In the southern wall is my little apartment, which is where I reside when not out.

Here's the main room:

And the bedroom:

The bathroom, with a toilet, sink, and shower:

The kitchen. Has a crafting table and 10 furnaces for smelting things in large quantities.

And, lastly, the dining room. It has... a table.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I'll resize them. Wait a second.

The interior or exterior night shots? I can replace the exterior ones; if it's the interior you can't see, that's odd; they're torchlit.

Exterior shots are updated.

The interior is fine; I tend to use just enough torches to prevent mob spawning.

*necropost*

Hey, I've been able to decomp these with MDecompress (thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Tauwasser) and have been posting them on the page.

I need someone who speaks German well to translate these:

Linky

EDIT: Updated package of German data.

The "master" is Dark Samus, so that makes sense.

Pretty sure "gamete" should be translated as "seed" and "kernel" as "core"; that's consistent with the final terminology.

Nice to know how early these are. I do wish we had the original English versions, though. Ah well. I think that the German translations might be what was unpolished when they were scrapped, though- see below, since I have proof at least one of these scans existed in a more final form in its original English.

This actually suggests (along with some concept art for another stage of corruption in the Trilogy artbook) that another planet might have existed in extremely early development! There's a pirate log set after the Homeworld falls and the Leviathan has been seized, and a Federation log set after they know what Phaaze is. The game being designed with another planet in mind would account for the poor pacing near the end; there's hardly any buildup to Phaaze, you just walk into a room, hit some switches, and it opens up.

Also: Pretty sure that Aurora scan was quoted verbatim in its original English form in one of the Metroid Prime 3 Channel videos:

"Aurora Unit - GF DF AU068"
"20 years ago, a team of Federation scientists announced the birth of an organic supercomputer. Its name was...Aurora. Since that historic date, thousands of Auroras have been built and installed. Originally designed for scientific purposes, the Auroras are now used in government, business, and military roles as well. They are given male, female, or gender neutral personas, based on the needs and desires of the staff in the facility they are to serve in. A vast network links all existing Auroras, allowing them access to a tremendous database without peer."

This is interesting because it lets us see at least one of these early scans in original form, whereas all we have left of the others is unfinished German translations.

(I'd love to interview someone at Retro about how, exactly, this situation occured; Retro is an American company and the scandata was written inhouse, so I wonder why the German is intact in all these?)

I know what Urtraghus is; I'm noting that those are Pirate logs set after they're supposed to have been pushed underground there.

I suppose that's possible, but even the area leading up to the Leviathan battleship is free of pirates, isn't it? There are a few deep into the planet, but for the most part there isn't a sizable enough presence on conquered Urtraghus. Again, combine this with the concept art for another phase of Corruption, poor endgame pacing, and Phaaze logs...

Perhaps not another full planet, but some kind of area seems to have been cut between seizing the Leviathan and Phaaze.

...All right, looking through Metroid6.pak, I no longer believe any substantial area was cut. I believe Phaaze was once intended to be a normal planet. A handful of scans are in that directory which don't mesh with Phaaze-as-the-final-straightforward-stretch, but which would make sense if Phaaze was a full planet. All of these are used elsewhere, but have no reason to be loaded on Phaaze.

This isn't simply speculation based on odd scan inclusion, either. The very first teaser trailer of Prime 3 depicts a very different early Phaaze. These scans merely serve to suggest that the Phaaze shown in this prerendered video was implemented to some extent.

Hunter-Class Gunship
Entering the ship will allow you to
recharge, reload, and save.

Hunter-Class Gunship
Based on the previous version, the new Hunter-class gunship is a fusion of Federation and Chozo technology. Designed by Samus Aran, this one-of-a-kind vessel was custom built at the Federation shipyard of Aliehs III. It is equipped with a powerful Chozo biotech computer that can interface with Aran via a Command Visor unit. The ship contains a mobile energy-recharge system, microfactories designed to produce ammunition, and an advanced medical bay.

Blast Shield
Blast Shields are invulnerable to all types of weapon fire. Some are engaged when hostiles are detected and will only open once the threat has been eliminated. Others will sometimes remain shut and force you to find an alternate route.

Galactic Federation Door
Weapon fire can disrupt the
energy shield and open the door.

Galactic Federation Blue Door
All Federation doors are designed with a low-level energy shield to prevent accidental activation. Shooting the energy shield will activate and open the door. Blue-colored energy shields may be disrupted by weapon fire of any type.

Talked to Mato, apparently the game's entire script is online, as are all the maps.

So, this is mainly cataloging, but...

http://earthboundcentral.com/m3script/340.html

^ Unused Locria dialogue, seems to be before being merged with Yokuba

http://earthboundcentral.com/m3script/807.html

^ An unused conversation near the end of the game between the party

There's also quite a lot in Block 0, which is helpfully indicated!

•You should be able to dash onto this.

•Inside was a whale.
...or not.

•Inside was a smokin' hot chick.
...or not.

•Inside was a ninja outfit.
...or not.

•Inside were morning glory seeds.
...or not.

•Inside, there was a bread roll!
But it bread-rolled away...

•You found a book titled "Insignificance".

•Nothing of significance was written inside it.

•[42 FF 00 00] pocketed the Chimera Tickets.

Lines 255-276 of block 0 are unused credits dialog.

Block 2 (ch1, around Flint's house):

•The contents of these boxes belong to
everyone.
•Use them however you wish.

-This also appears in block 12.

Block 11:

http://earthboundcentral.com/m3script/11.html

Lines 20-23 are older debug text. That text also appears in block 213.

Block 21 (ch1?, mountains):

•*hop*
•Wave your game?
...Wait, that's not right.
•I mean, save your game?

Yes No

Block 22 (Prologue, Alec's house):

•[42 FF 00 00] dug around in the trash can.
•But it was empty.

-This also appears in block 23

Block 35 (Reggie's place after lightning struck it):

•I believe God protect Reggie by taking his
place.
•So now Reggie work hard for God, too.

-Mato isn't sure this is unused

Block 48 (factory exterior):

•*hop*
•I'm head over heels for you.

Block 52 (chimer lab exterior)

•Young lad.
•I'm reminded of my son's friend when I look at
you.
•I'm not sure if we'll ever meet again, but I'll
always be rooting for you folks.

- This is Dr. Andonuts, presumably

•Oh-ho!
•You again?!
•I'll keep on makin' ya hurt, as often as it
takes!!

•Squeeak!
•I- I- I'm sorry!
•I- I- I'll give you a hint, just please don't hurt
me!

•The Chimera Laboratory?
•Squeak!
•That's this building right here.
•It's probably a good idea to go there and ask
around.
•Yes.
•I hear they're doing all sorts of bad
experiments inside.

•Just please don't kill me!

•The bottom of the garbage can is littered with
doughnut crumbs.

- This is only not displayed due to a bug

Block 70 (Sunflower field)
http://earthboundcentral.com/m3script/70.html

-This might be in the debug room, but...

Block 170 (unused room?)
http://earthboundcentral.com/m3script/170.html

-I don't recall seeing this.

Block 187 (unused room?)
http://earthboundcentral.com/m3script/187.html

Block 210 (Flint's house, post-urbanization)

•The contents of these boxes cost money.
•Please refrain from using them without paying.

For the boxes that wound up being removed, presumably.

Block 211 (Tazmily Village square, ch3)

•I have a special scary story...
•Wanna hear it?

Yes No

•The truth is...
•For a long time, I've been taking nuts I find in
the forest and then hiding them in this house.
•But, when I went to check on them the other
day...
they had...
ALL BEEN MADE INTO BREAD!!

•...
•Huh...?
You don't seem very scared.

•You scaredy-cat!
•Get outta here! Shoo!

•I should stop hiding nuts in this house...
•They all wind up as bread.

-Not sure about these.

Block 212 (Osohe Castle, door closed):

•No one's inside there, not even King Osohe or
Queen Senaka.
•It's just an old, crumbling castle now.
•'Bout the only things in there are ghosts and
spooks.
•Ain't no point in climbing the wall to get inside,
if you ask me.

•Come ta think of it, I heard the princess of this
castle is bein' raised somewhere else.
•Word is she's one hell of a princess, quicker
than a monkey and stronger than a bear.

- Not sure about these.
- Also appear in block 213.

Block 305 (DCMC concert 1):

•Word is that everyone in the DCMC's lost their
memory.

-Not sure about this.

More later.

Working on a Weak Article system similar to the Featured Article system, for games with lots of known unused content but a poorly written/laid out page.

This thread is for discussing the system and nomination of Weak Articles.

For things with plenty of content that aren't well organized/documented/explained, as opposed to things with little content.

My thought was that we'd get all the articles that need some work together and devote a front page spot to randomly cycling them, so they would be brought to attention. The exposure is important- it's not just a template. See what I'm doing on the front-page sandbox.

Eh, all right. I would like to keep a list of weak articles even if we only call attention to a few at a time, though.

Thoughts on candidates?

I'll nominate Metroid Prime 2- the old scandata lists I found are interesting, but I can't even get MPXViewer to run and the page is poorly organized, since I'm not exactly good at the presentation aspects...

This is the other big find. It's the text for a very comprehensive debug sound test. Suggests that a lot of battle music was composed, most of it unused. It'd be nice if GlitterBerri or someone could translate the romanji to see if there's anything hinting at areas or events which aren't in the final game.

While on this subject: anyone with actual GBA hacking ability up to trying to find code for either the old Contest system or the sound test?

Yeah, looking back I recognize a lot too. There's still a ton that's unused, though. I'm CERTAIN that the five negative attributes aren't in the final!

Yeah, I was thinking that.

I also need to post the different order of Hoenn Pokemon as extrapolated from the internal list order...
