I just recently began using Toad's Tool 64 further than what I can understand and I need some assistance. I first used Toad's Tool 64 when I first saw VL-Tone's video on Youtube. I fiddled around with it but then stopped for a year or 2. But now I got into it again! Anyways I'm making a level on the flatworld but I am having some troubles... (BTW, I can't find the search button on these forums lol.)

1. I have no idea on how to make it where when you play the rom you start on the flatworld, not on the castle grounds. I don't want to run all the way into the painting just to test my level, most importantly for you guys having to do that.

2. I'm using a lot of pushable metal boxes, but the problem is, they need to be static (Not able to be moved.) I used these boxes because they are big and easy to use. Anyone know how I can change their behavior to static?

3. Some objects appear in Toad's Tool 64 but when I start up the rom they don't show up at all. I checked the acts for every object so they should be there in game. I had to try all different kinds of things and start up Toad's Tool 64 again to get the boxes to appear in the rom. Here are some pictures:

4. When I start the level I spawn facing the wrong direction. Is there a way to make Mario spawn facing the opposite direction. I already tried turning the spawn in Toad's Tool 64 180 degrees, but nothing happened.

5. How do you create a patch for your mod? Specifically one that PPF-o-matic uses to patch them.

6. Can I change the act name with Toad's Tool 64 or Text Wrangler? I remember I used to do it before but now I forgot, care to enlighten me?


I read most of the FAQs and stickies and hopefully I did a good job on this thread. I am currently on Windows 7 using Toad's Tool 64 version 0.5994. With your guys' help I can make a fun level that not only I, but you guys will enjoy!

1) I'd assume that you can't, unless you actually replace the Castle Grounds with an imported FlatWorld, which I wouldn't do, just in case.

2) Yes, you can. Click on the Pushable Metal Box object and then look at the bars below the screen. One of them is a blue one that says "Behav". Next to that is a number. Next to that is an icon of a list. Next to that, it says "Pushable". Click the list icon and change the behaviour to something that suits you.

3) I don't know why that happens. Maybe you didn't save?

4) Try rotating in another direction. Maybe you weren't rotating the right way.

5) Google, or look around in the help forum. I believe it is in there somewhere.

6) Yes, you can. Open the ROM in Text Wrangler and from there it should be obvious. Just remember to save changes.

Alright, I did some working and listening and I got some solutions, but I still do have problems..

1) I still need some assistance with this one. I played Messiaen's The Missing Stars and I was hoping of something like this.

2) I went to the behav box and tried many different things. The game either froze, the box disappeared, or the box was unable to be a wall anymore. So what I thought of, was to raise the metal boxes up on the Y axis by 10. When they're in the air they cannot be pushed.

3) I still don't know the reason this is happening but I'm going to work around it and try some different things, hopefully it doesn't happen again.

4) Yup. It turns out I needed to change the Y Rot, not the X Rot. Thanks for the help!

5) I went searching on Google and Youtube and found a nice tutorial. I am now going to use PPFstudios.

6) Ok good. Thanks for the info.

If anyone has some advice or suggestions feel free to tell me. It would be greatly appreciated! :)
