Expiration dates are more like... guidelines...

I've eaten some stuff that was, um, let me see....
Ice cream topping that was over a year old (no mold no problem!)
Canned crab meat that was over a year old (hey, it's canned. It's good forever!)
Various condiments that were probably overdue on a similar scale
... and other old things from the depths of the cabinet that I don't want to know.

For me, as long as it's not moldy or smelly or in any other way OBVIOUSLY bad, I'm going to at least give it a try before tossing it. Don't want to waste good food, you know?

I once ate a moon pie about 5 inches in diameter and an inch thick. Afterwards, out of curiosity, I checked the nutrition label.

280 calories
200 from fat
2 servings!

...

I was a wee bit shocked. I mean, I knew it was going to be bad, but not THAT bad!

I tend to eat stuff I know is bad on a regular basis.

When I imagine things, it plays out in my head almost like a book or movie. I have all sorts of story lines that I follow, most of which are derived from other movies I've seen or games I've played. Sometimes, I'll put myself in a medieval setting, and I "enlighten" the other women as to the opportunities they have outside of arranged marriage and such. I duel for honor against those men who hold the belief of that time that women should be nothing except obedient, and beat them all (of course ). I engage in combat with mystical creatures, defeat them, befriend them, tame them, and then use them to further show that women can do cool shit
And sometimes in these daydreams I'll go to war with my awesome creatures and the other women who I've taught to fight. We're our own regiment, and each of us has an awesome mount. Whenever the men fail, we swoop in and win

Whoops, a little too much detail in there, methinks

I guess it shows just how active and detailed my imagination can be.

Leftovers are good stuff. Especially because it means I can be lazy and not actually cook something (microwaving is not cooking).

I also "steal" desserts from the buffet-cafeteria on a daily basis. I don't label it, especially because I have a feeling that some of the stuff in my food drawer is from March...

As long as it isn't moldy, it's ok.

I have really low standards for food.

A lot of times people are embarrassed about things like this when they happen. Especially when the person who's doing it is doing such awful things. My guess is that she's not telling her parents (or the police) because she doesn't want to be judged for "letting" this happen, or because she's afraid they'll not believe her, or that they'll get angry at her, or something like that.

But the problem isn't going to go away if she keeps it secret. Well, maybe secret isn't the best word, since the whole grade knows, but the problem is going to get exponentially worse the longer she hides it.

Maybe telling her that people won't get angry or disappointed with her for this will help her get assistance? I don't really have much experience in this, so I'm just guessing at what would work at this point.

Interesting. Exactly 92% of bottled water is made of tears. I wonder why it isn't salty?

So, I come to find out that I missed a calculus test yesterday, mostly because I haven't gone in the past couple of weeks because all my teacher does is regurgitate the book back at us (time is better spent sleeping, or teaching myself from the book).

After finding this out, sheer panic ensues. Apparently my face was priceless.

I know this isn't the end of the world, and that one utterly failed test isn't going to change the course of my life, but it's kinda hard to see that as of right now.

What big "oopsies" have you made? I need to put this test in perspective, to stop beating myself up about it, and to move on (so I can study for the final next week). I know eventually I'll look back on this and maybe laugh at myself, but as of right now, it isn't very funny.

Maybe seeing other people's "oops" moments will help me to get over this more quickly, and to realize that I'm going to recover from shock/panic (hopefully before finals next week )

Please stay!
Everyone goes a little crazy sometimes. That's just the way people are. Trust me, there are way worse things you could have done. And since you apologized, that means you're a cool dude! It takes a big amount of courage to do that, especially since here on the internet, you could have just left and never come back and never needed to apologize. Coming back and apologizing means you've got guts and are awesome!

I might be able to salvage this.

I looked at the syllabus, and it doesn't say I can't retake the test (double negative). I sent the following email. Hopefully he'll be nice...

Hi

Right now, I am full of panic.

A friend who is in the class said that yesterday we had a test. I'm not sure if he was serious, and I'm really hoping that he said that just so that he could see the shocked expression on my face (which he got).
Is this true? And if so, is there anything that I can do to make it up/ do extra credit?
I know that as the teacher, you are not obligated to show mercy on your students/ allow make-ups. But you would have my everlasting gratitude if you would permit this.

Sincerely

Sup.

Instead of studying for a calc test/ finals/ lab practical or writing my physics/ chem lab report or sleeping, I'm posting here.

I think that probably qualifies for idiocy.

Ok, here we go:
When two objects collide, they produce equal and opposite forces on each other (F1 on 2 = -F2 on 1, henceforth known as F1 and F2) as is stated by Newton’s third law of motion. Using Newton’s second law, F = ma, and from the definition of acceleration, a = dv/dt, it follows that F = m*dv/dt. So, F1 = m1*dv1/dt and -m2*dv2/dt = -F2. Multiplying through by dt and taking the integral of the first two quantities yields S F1*dt = S m1*dv1. Likewise, the second pair of quantities yields S -F2*dt = S -m2*dv2. Multiplying both sides of F1 = -F2 on 1 by dt and then integrating yields S F1*dt = S -F2. After making appropriate substitutions, the penultimate equation becomes m1v1 (evaluated between v1i and v1f) = m2v2 (evaluated between v2i and v2f). Once the quantities are evaluated and the terms sorted, the final equation becomes m1v1i + m2v2i = m1v1f + m2v2f. This equation is used for the conservation of momentum.

Darn integral signs didn't show up... hence the capital S instead.

The limit of integration on forces is time (from ti to tf). Since at t = ti v = vi and t = tf v = vf, substitutions can be made on the limits of integration of mass*change in velocity. The limit of integration on mass*velocity is from vi to vf.

Couldn't find my book for this one. The scratch sheet I derived it from had lots of, well, scratches. As in mistakes that had been scribbled out. But I managed to do it
