Interesting note: The alternateFire Man stage is also in the proto, and it's identical to what's found in the final version.
Other notes:
*A lot of object palette changes. The Time Stopper's sparklers, for instance, are white in the prototype and black in the final game.
*The Carry item is in the game, but it's bugged. It's always on the same place relative to the screen, so in scrolling areas you can actually move around with it. I doubt this was intended, since in fixed areas it's stationary.
*The Mirror Buster doesn't work at all, though there's space for it. It uses a placeholder sprite that, like Carry, stays in the same place relative to the screen. It doesn't use any energy and you can't switch out of it until you enter a new area.

I'm having trouble using the upload wizard with multiple files. I hit "next" after editing the image descriptions and nothing happens. Is anyone else having this trouble or do I just have a shitty internet connection?

For an actual answer to your question, apparently the program here will decompress the files: Here.
Exectuable located Here.
Don't ask me how the program works because I don't know.

Anyone want to translate these tiles from Valtric? I think they're supposed to be names. Just in case they are, N.Yamaguchi and E.Origami are responsible for the "Char Design" what includes graphics.

They do indeed translate to "Yamaguchi" (山口 ) and "Origami" (折上 ) respectively. So yes, they are surnames.
Thank you again for your help.
I found another message in Valtric...

Text found in Mutant Night. Probably some developer names based on all of the other hidden text in the ROM.

七條敬重 is Shichijo Keicho and 林高志 is Hayashi Takashi.
Thank you! Hayashi Takashi is in the credits, but the closest match for the first name is Takashige Shichijyo.

Are we allowed to upload FMVs in OGV format to the wiki? Ex: https://tcrf.net/File:AbesOddyseeDemoTitle.ogv
If they are permitted, what's the target bitrate for these videos? I'm worried about file size here, but ideally I'd want to upload them in the same quality as they are on the disc. Would it be better to just upload them to YouTube?

Nice stuff! Coincidentally, I found some debugging functions in the the Game Boy Kid Icarus game yesterday. They're activated almost identically to the ones in Link's Awakening...
I tested Metroid II and Super Mario Land 2 to see if they worked the same way, but no dice. What a drag.

This is Hatch. I love Marina!!
(Without further context, this is the best translation I can do.)
Unfortunately, this is about all the context I can give, because there's no Hatch (or Hachi) in the credits at all.

If someone could find out how to make the Bob template insert a "Subpages"-style section after the TOC if prototype=yes or notes=yes, that'd be pretty cool. I don't know how to make that look nice without adding a description= to the bob and editing every single page, though.

I tried looking through the ROM for Pokemon names before, but they seem to be in a different format than everything else.

Does this dip switch setting say "Flip / Invert Screen" or something similar?
I apologize for the quality of this image, but it's the best I could find. Hopefully it's legible enough.

Huh, well that confirms what MAME says it is, at least. Doesn't actually do that in the code, but hey. Thank you!

It's for the arcade game "Heavy Unit." The title screen normally looks like this:
If the "Flip screen" switch is set, this screen is displayed and the game soft-locks. Doesn't matter if the cabinet type is Upright or Cocktail.
This is noted in the MAME driver, but from what I've examined in the main and slave CPUs this seems to be the intended behavior for that switch. I don't have any footage from a real-life cabinet to go by, though. I guess it's possible that something in the Mermaid MCU handles the screen flipping.
