Actually your score multiplier goes up by getting not hit. Touch an enemy or bullet and you're back to x1 ![]() Fun little game, but now that I got through I don't play it again. It's also kinda funny how ridiculously little cash you get when you sell a weapon. On the other hand you get huge amounts of money - even on earlier levels 2-3 levels without buying new stuff grants you the 600k for something on maximum level - I wonder if that +1 weapon level-item works with the best laser though ![]() Score: 345470665 (first and only try, lost one life; using the ship with the highest firepower). --------------------

I'm not too deep in danmaku (mainly Touhou - Imperishable Night, which is the 8th Touhou in the series so far), but I can only second the post from Fate Testarosse, when it comes to Imperishable Night. It has a very good learning curve, unlike TH - Mountain of Faith, which seems to be quite challenging for beginners ... Suwako's final spell card in Stage 6 anyone (even on easy very challenging for me)? Nevertheless also a good game, but personally I adore Imperishable Night much more. Also audio-wise IN has a lot of very memorable tracks in general like Extended Ash, History of the Moon, Voyage 1969 & 1970 (sadly in the sequels not as good as here, except some single tracks like 'Native Faith' from MoF), and you can unlock an additional spell card for each boss in their levels, if you perform good - no dieing and collecting Time Orbs. If you get one, you have to beat it without bombs (they are crossed out), but if you die you won't lose a life on a bonus card. Nice, and although I'm not too fond about games in anime-style (due to my age maybe?), Touhou - IN simply rocks ![]() --------------------

It MAY happen, and although we (our generation probably) will find things like these really astounding, others won't. I know someone who has no clue about computers, but is a solid person (not born here, but a very small village overseas). He told me something about "I got two computers from a friend of me, could you help me connect it", as he really had no clue - there were actually two screens, but only one machine (which is ancient by the way - or do you still have one running with EDO-RAM and an ISA-slot?). Told him to throw that junk away - due to various RAM errors in memtest, some defective sectors found by SeaTools and, of course, way too little power to browse the internet properly (aside from playing older games), as he's an innocent person otherwise which does not care about those grey, or coloured, machines the whole world uses. Well, some people probably really don't care about stuff. Otherwise usually it's those people who think they know everything who do things like this, sadly. Think about someone who claims to do everything perfectly, just setting up house electronics without the proper equipment, and then they will hit the power supply line - and this could get expensive if you need to call the proper electrician ... As for reading the manuals, usually it SHOULD be -> RTFM before first use. But on the one hand most people already set up a video game console or even a computer by their own several times and probably know how to do this (TV/HiFi system <-> console, electricity, Control Pad and stuff), on the other hand many electronic devices have on-line (not 'online', just meaning the device itself has an installation guide built-in) guides, which show up on the operating screen and such. --------------------

I always use them a lot. In MS Office it saves me a lot of time to hold down Page up down to reach a certain location without manually entering a page number or scrolling a lot using the mouse wheel. Home and End also are perfectly suitable if there are any useless empty spaces after a sentence. On web pages all these keys help a lot, too, although it is easier for the hand just to scroll (or if you have those buttons on your mouse and configure them to act as Page up/down), but in the evening I'm often tired when doing stuff - and one quick press on Home or End is preferred over several scrolling cycles (and no, I'm not adjusting the wheel to move more lines at once, with the default three lines per step it is perfectly for me in most applications). In forums very useful too, if I read through it already. To simply view new reply/ies by just hitting End once. Makes everything easier and more comfortable for me. --------------------

The extreme hard versions from Super Mario World (hacks) go the same way the movie franchise "Saw" went: More brutal, less chances to survive, unfair traps; but no real progess or new ideas. Just plain boring, but parallel to the sequels (in the movie just a showcase of those funky-looking death traps, aside a bad story) it may show a skillful player who does really good, but on the other hand it does not feel like a super-hard level anymore. Kaizo was a lot trial and error and while it was unfair, it had some fun. No fancy koopa shell jumps or using the double-item-squish glitch to pass through a solid wall, just "normal" frustration. At least the creator did it right and actually flipped down the munchers ... too many hacks have black plants floating in the air ![]() --------------------

Just go into the library or wherever you have the ease to learn. It is also a calm place, unlike the home where people like using their lawnmovers, when you want to prepare and learn. Also might stop the "distraction" from the board. Or let ban yourself from an admin for the duration until you have finished your finals. Seriously. After that, just let someone tap on your shoulders (probably depending on the results), and continue here. The final is just once, so it might be good not to blow it due to laziness. Of course, if it is a really difficult subject and a majority of students fails the first time anyway, it is another story ... --------------------

I have to admit Internet Explorer got a lot better since version 8. Finally you can "use" it, although in those past years it lacks the customizability we all got. Private browsing mode for people who share one computer, some new features are nice, I hope Microsoft keeps on. Still, you need IE for Windows Update, if you want to do it manually. I know, it's Microsoft, but it would be really nice if they allowed us to access their page with an alternative browser. But no matter, since it should be neede rarely anyway, thanks to auto-updates. As for Firefox, it takes a long time to start, but those little helpers/add-ons called Brief, Greasemonkey, IE Tab, Rikaichan, Mouse Gestures or DownThemAll!. My second favourite browser would be Opera, these widgets are actually quite nice, and Opera starts up literally instantly, while Firefox 3 needs about half and a minute on my ancient machine to fire up (I keep most applications open anyway and put the computer into hibernate mode, when switching off). --------------------

Since each japanese character, be it a kana with a maximum of four or a kanji with like 18 or more strokes, occupies exactly the same space each, it might be the explanation for this issue. Or they were too lazy to put in variable fonts (doesn't this consume a little more CPU from those older consoles, if I'm not mistaken?). I also disliked the fixed font width, but only due to the large empty space between each letter in Terranigma (some 8 and 16 bit games actually have less space between characters). This is also the reason I am actually puzzled when translating Japanese newspapers. Seeing a complex kanji squished (in handwriting you can vary the positions of some strokes slightly at least, to make it look and display better) looks ugly sometimes. It also makes counting strokes for a less-known kanji rather difficult, if it contains special or hard-to-decipher radicals. But enough about that. Yes, Japanese RPGs should sell usually really cheap (someone I know got a brand-new and sealed Valkyrie Profile JP for about 20 bucks in Tokyo (Akihabara), while the used US versions off eBay sell for quite huge rates), so go for them, and learn some kana, as most games outline important story-related cities and locations either in specific colours, or use very-easy-to-read katakana anyway. You shouldn't be concerned with difficult kanji in those lower resolutions anyway. Hence, Famicom Wars for the ... well, Famicom, even displays the entire text in katakana, 'cept the little menu which contains the only kanji in the game, maybe also in the credits ![]() And be sure to pick up Panel de Pon, well-known and relabeled as Tetris Attack like probably all of us here know. It is fairy-themed unlike the Nintendo-characters European and US release (Tetris Attack), but it seems somehow a little faster and harder than TA, plus features an additional boss, if I'm not mistaken. --------------------

Either order your Bluetooth stick/dongle online via Amazon or somewhere else (I don't know about the laws in the US, but in Germany anything ordered and not directly bought in a store can be returned by the customer, he just needs to pay shipping costs if the product value is below 40,00 EUR) or ask your local dealer, if you may return it the next day when experiencing problems. In Germany in most stores they range between about 10 Euros up to fifty bucks, online you can buy very cheap ones, for maybe about 5-6 USD without shipping. But usually your stores should have these. Tried something like Wal-Mart ( ) yet?Either way, Windows brings an own Bluetooth stack of course, but usually those sticks come with an own driver via CD. The PS3 pad usually should show as some kind of emulated USB device (so ZSNES, other emulators and any game with joypad support recognize the Six Axis), but since Shantae already recommended a certain brand, it should work flawlessy. Of course misregarding the operating system and other factors, which (s)he didn't mention ![]() Although I would recommend to use Microsoft's driver, but due to lack of a PS3 I really cannot tell, if a certain driver is required to make the PS3 pad work. Personally I just would like to keep the amount of drivers for the devices as small as possible, as too many of those can hinder themselves or even cause blue-screens if not programmed properly in conjunction ... --------------------

EDIT: Found it out. I overlooked a key, that block was a well-placed keyblock. Heh, that game never fails to impress me. Good work, Bloodstar, heh. Got it, could pass, defeat the "boss" here, and finally can continue with the quest. Wheeee. Well, I'm bumping this quest err, mean thread. Axtually this is by far the best quest in ZC I ever played (only tried some, partly finished, though ...). The first two dungeons were a bit too generic in my opinion, but from the third on, it just rocks. Really fitting music, the dungeon room setups are the thing I liked the most. Especially those battles with blue Darknuts. Without a certain item (you'll probably know, which) these take practice like in the original. But few rooms are narrow where you must utilize the room layout to be able to kill them. Once you get that item, they are pussycats. I cannot figure out how to proceed, is this thin row (where Link cannot pass) really showing I have to go left? The map shows the boss in the upper left corner. The other way around I also cannot get further (got a key there, dead end). I used the Red Candle multiple times on the trees, but still cannot figure out what to do ... ![]() Thanks for help. --------------------

The support archive or how it is called. I use the deluxe version with MP3s. I have nothing against MIDIs (even installed the good old Yamaha XG Soft Synthesizer - although not the best, far better than the default Wavetable Synth on my not-so-good AC97, which has horrible latency). But the music fits, using badass mod plug music for that Ancient Book Temple is nice indeed. --------------------

Sorry to push this again, but I just got through this quest. And it was damn good! People, even if you didn't played through the first Zelda fully. Past dungeon 2, it gets really good, grab this. Even with the limited array of enemies Zelda has to offer (plus those extra ones, like those §$$%! white Whizzrobes) it was very creative. By the way, is there a second quest? Because after I finished the quest and killed Ganon, the credits normally rolled - hit start where the final time was displayed (above 21 hours), then an error came up "Cannot load ALTTS.qst" or something. But the progress was saved, as all roomes were displayed after the ending, and I started at ... you know, just play it. Especially the music was really nice. The only thing which was a bit bad, but was due to my machine: ZELDA CLASSIC DISLIKES BOSS DEATHS. I'm very bad at remembering boss names, but that thing which is surrounded by a circle of smaller enemies (which require the hammer to be killed) crashed the game in about 50% of all time on my machine (bad if you didn't save for a longer time), when the dying sound was heared. All other bosses worked normally. But I simply killed those one-time encounters once with the sound muted in Windows, then let kill myself to save, afterwards enabling it again. Just don't wanna fight the final boss without the kick-ass "Eye of the Beholder" track. And thanks for putting in the Lens. I found it accidently quite late in the game, but in the last two dungeons it was quite useful ![]() --------------------

Atomos from Final Fantasy V. First, use a ridicously overpowered Comet spell to hit someone. If you leveled up to survive the attack (you need a lot of those extra HP or just the right job ability), then you think you survive? No, the boss uses another Comet in the same turn. I wonder if this continues if you have something like 8000 HP. Now, when the person's down, Atomos will use his suction attack and move any dead people towards him. If you don't revive them, they will be removed from battle. I still wonder how that idea was created. Maybe inside the development team, betting for one bottle crate of beer that you cannot create a boss enemy like that ![]() --------------------

Mega Man III Pop that dirty bastard into your console and flick that switch. Hands off your controller and enjoy one of (if not, THE, personally) the best Mega Man intro songs ever. Goodness, that game is still so common it isn't too expensive. It might not be the hardest MM game, but actually it is one of the longest MM games (8+4+5 levels), while still maintaining some hard levels as well. You could also grab Rad Racer, but only the first game. It is simplistic, but a lot of fun and has some good music in the car audio. And if you have a set of red-green glasses (think about early 3D movies), press Select in-game, and you can play the game in 3D ![]() --------------------

- Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (in Europe/Germany labeled "Mystic Quest Legend" - quite confusing if you think about Seiken Densetsu, or Mystic Quest for Game Boy). We all know the disadvantages from that title, but the music rocked. It may have lacked bass even for SNES relations (compare that to the DKC3 final boss battle track or the Rudora no Hihou soundtrack), but it was catchy indeed. And easy enough. First enemies die in one hit, over the course in two and later in three hits. And those bosses were _extremely_ weak to their counter-element, it did like quadruple damage. Of course, some could dish out a lot of damage per hit, and if you attempt a low-level run in this game, you will have royal pain with some of those fiends, especially if you don't have that needed Moon Helm. - Final Fantasy II via an Action Replay II on my PAL console. Really liked it, the characters grew on me. It might have a lot of dust even back then, but I liked the overall game, albeit short. The graphics were superior to FFV's (imo), although FFV of course was a lot bigger and more interesting. --------------------

Back in the days, sometimes. In games which only gain better attributes at level up, I didn't grind that long, as opposed to games where you get new abilities at a new level. An example was FF4, where the characters learned their spells at fixed levels. In FF6 was the leveling curve quite nice, and I was only over-leveled due to running around randomly, doing sidequests and probably forgetting where to go next (or searching a lot of enemies for certain Lores he can learn - I usually deny walkthroughs until I'm done it on my own, or am really being stuck for a long time on the same spot and can't figure out what to do). That grinding part is also the reason I dislike any MMORPG. I understand how the game must not end too abruptly, as the players would cancel their subscriptions, but doing the same thing over and over for lots of hours or even days for one tiny level just left, from a level curve 1 up to something into the high two or three digits will never appeal to me in online games. Offline maybe, as Star Ocean 2 actually requires high levels to beat the final boss (if you don't know how, I could never beat Indalecio without the Bunny Shoes), so a Level 118 Dias came in handy. But nowadays I'm quite tired of grinding. The last RPG I finished was Partners in Time, and as much as I liked its precedessor with its steady level curve, I think it seems to take longer to reach a higher level here. Although the level is not that important, but pumping everything in attack only - as those ass-long boss battles are nigh impossible without Bros Items and would take at least 30 minutes each otherwise. I like it more to have a bigger number of levels with shorter experience spans between (it can be even extremely low, when it comes to the increase of parameters), so you "feel" stronger just because of many tiny level ups, and yet don't feel you grinded. --------------------
