I tried disabling hyperthreading and running only 4 threads. No improvement, still slows down the whole system.
Prime95 causes the same problem while running at "idle". I don't know if this is an Intel fail or a Microsoft fail; maybe I should install Linux and find out for myself.

Adobe's crazy automatic updates. I guess after a decade (more?) of reading PDF files, we still haven't perfected how to read a PDF file.
Needless to say, I found a third-party reader.

FoxIt? I love FoxIt Reader, I switched from Adobe Reader to FoxIt a couple years ago, and have never looked back
At least it doesn't like to update every 2 weeks or so, unlike official Adobe products
I've used Foxit in the past, but this time around it's Sumatra PDF. I added it to the Usefull Freeware thread.
