I have watched to completion a grand total of ONE animé.

Thanks to various things (not enough time, computer hates the encoding, ADD), I haven't finished any others. I'm partway through Higurashi. I've seen most of Haruhi, although now I want to see it in the "right" order because it's too straightforward.

And now thanks to you people, my animé list just gained at least 16 entries.

At this rate, I'll be able to buy every one of them directly from Japan before I'm anywhere near completing them. And DVDs in Japan are expensive.

On the bright side, DVDs are higher quality.


On the topic of actually watching animé, I have one thing to say:

Actually, it's pretty much like normal typing, except spacebar and the apostrophe key and a few others control the IME.

Not usually, although the worksheets from class include spaces so you can tell where one word stops and another starts. The spacebar is to convert hiragana to katakana or kanji, depending on the word. Without pressing space, the sentence I typed before would've been わたしはにほんごをたいぷします.

The apostrophe is used to type ん before な, に, ぬ, ね, and の or at the end of what you're typing. For example, you would type "kon'nichiha" to get こんにちは.

The language bar moves around less when text labels are off, and probably won't move at all when it's vertical.

I don't see hotkeys for changing the conversion mode, and I had no idea alt+` did anything. However, left alt + shift is to change languages. Alt + ` switches between the two most recently used input modes, so you can use that to switch between hiragana and katakana.

Time measurement is not VLC's strong point. I've never seen the seek bar fail to seek, though.

Well, yes, but it's usually able to play all the way through. I only ever see it crash when it's playing H.264 video (this is probably because my computer is crap) or when I'm loading a file while one is playing, and even then it usually works.

If you were to send me the first 5 megabytes of one of these video files, I would be able to tell you if the video is at fault for some of these problems.

Well, if you're both trying to play the same video, then yes, that is normal. Otherwise, no. Seeking should work with most audio and video.

Well, I tried a few things.

IIMarckus: VLC seems to be able to seek to parts it's already played, but not past that.

HyperHacker: The subtitle problem seems to be VLC misinterpreting SubStation Alpha-encoded subtitles. I still haven't seen anything like those video problems.
