Average early two-stage normal-type this time around is Minezumi, it's this little meerkat/chipmunk thing. It's cute, and not as derpy looking as Bidoof thankfully.

Posted on 01-10-11 11:14:54 PM, in ITT we appraise digital television EPG's (last edited by Lirodon at 01-10-11 11:25 PM) Link

And 4 months after I say we'd be getting it soon, it finally looks like we'll be getting the new SaskTel firmware update this week or next. We got the package warning us about this update today. Well, actually it was a rather impressive one, a yellow packing envelope containing hot new U-Verse SaskTel Max Advanced Series MXv3 remote controls, a poster-sized pamphlet explaining what's going on, and a new user guide for the system.

I managed to get the new remotes to work on 3 out of 4 TV's out of trial and positioning error (one TV has something up with its remote control port, and on the one in my room I had issues using the learning mode since I was pointing the old remote at the wrong end! Why Liro, why didn't you realize this was in the instructions? But hey, any way to make it work on my obscure not-so-name-brand TV is a good thing) They're smaller than the awkwardly mapped Atlas remotes we currently use, and have a little more concise functionality too, which may be a good thing. And more than just the device buttons are backlit! Yay!

So soon, I'll update you with how it actually goes. Please hope the box actually remembers what channel you were on instead of throwing you to the home screen every single flipping time you turn it on! :X

We got the update this morning, yay.

Notes:

  • It's nice to have back/exit buttons again. That drove me mad.

  • New interface is well, let's just say that it'll be familiar to users of a certain AT&T television service. In fact, it's the same software, but in a royal blue recolour with yellow accents

  • I managed to crash a box within the first 5 minutes, after setting it to HD mode and hitting Guide. I don't know why it did this.

  • There's a limited genre search hidden in the guide display, but there isn't a search option for said function in the search, unfortunately. You can also search by actors too.

  • The Interactive dock is a little rough around the edges, but beats a stupid home screen any day.

  • The interface effects seem to lag a bit on the HDTV, but not on the other TV's oddly enough.

With the magnitude of this change, compare it to going from Windows 98 to Windows Vista

I found one easy, in the Dreamyard, without even realizing it was shaking.

So yes, I bought White today. I didn't even have to pre-order since I don't think my town is big enough to have such a dedicated following for a portable console game. Though at least there are people in this town who are excited to that degree about say, Halo or Call of Duty.

Or in laymans terms: "Sleep mode doesn't work after installation of new video card"

I installed a Nvidia Zotac GeForce GT 430 PCI express card last night (to replace the literally crappy on-board one: gaming graphics on WEI went from like 2.4 to 5.5!), and when I went to sleep mode, it wouldn't come out of it completely. The monitor wouldn't turn back on, and at the same time, the keyboard didn't appear to light back up either, yet the computer itself seems to have come back up just fine according to both its activity, and the event log (which indicated that things seemed normal).

If anything helps, it runs Vista (yes, after my next web design project, I do plan to try and go up to 7), and the monitor is attached to the VGA port right now, but I do have DVI cables too. My card has DVI, VGA, and HDMI ports.

Part of me is regretting that update, as

A. before rebooting, it still didn't come out of sleep.

B. The computer failed to boot twice afterward. Once on the black screen between splash and login (it hung), and then it rebooted after I logged in, and helpfully told me it had recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

I haven't checked the voltage recently, but I know for a fact that the power supply in this computer is not the stock one; it got updated after the old one died.

Sure, the windows are all in the classic look, but they've whittled down the classic sorting features. The Control Panel stuff is still all mixed around. And it doesn't get rid of Vista's obnoxious other problems.

Furthermore, the answer need not be decade-old operating systems. My plan is to move onto the Windows Server OSes instead. They appear to have kept the minimal stuff around without altering it too much, since like MS' Corporate customers, I have little stomach for unnecessary change.

URIs must be properly escaped, they must not contain unescaped
characters below U+0021 including the space character and not
above U+007E. Tidy escapes the URI for you as recommended by
HTML 4.01 section B.2.1 and XML 1.0 section 4.2.2. Some user agents
use another algorithm to escape such URIs and some server-sided
scripts depend on that. If you want to depend on that, you must
escape the URI by your own. For more information please refer to
http://www.w3.org/International/O-URL-and-ident.html

You may need to move one or both of the <form> and </form>
tags. HTML elements should be properly nested and form elements
are no exception. For instance you should not place the <form>
in one table cell and the </form> in another. If the <form> is
placed before a table, the </form> cannot be placed inside the
table! Note that one form can't be nested inside another!

The table summary attribute should be used to describe
the table structure. It is very helpful for people using
non-visual browsers. The scope and headers attributes for
table cells are useful for specifying which headers apply
to each table cell, enabling non-visual browsers to provide
a meaningful context for each cell.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

service for checking URLs for accessibility.

You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
