His hair isn't pink, the game is going to be HORRIBLE.

..okay, I'm kidding, I haven't been this hyped for a Zelda game in a long, lone time. Even if the overworld is "the same," the screenshot has at least one difference (four small rocks instead of one big boulder to throw) and that's likely far from the only one. Besides, revisiting the world from the best console Zelda of all time can't be all that bad. :x

(bickering about MMX7)

Guys, can it, it's getting annoying. This isn't the time or the place to have an argument about the merits of games on the wiki -- we have a ton of bad games on the wiki. There's no point in bitching about "OH GOD MMX7 IS SO BAD I WON'T GO THROUGH IT" or "WHY WON'T YOU GO THROUGH MMX7, IT WAS OKAY." That's not the point.

The real point: MMX7 quite possibly has unused content in it. Someone will actually use this knowledge productively and go through it when it's convenient for them to do so, thus furthering our understanding of its development. There's also a demo available that gives us a look earlier into the game's life, so that would be interesting to look at as well. That is all that needs to be said about it. We don't usually take the game's quality into account when we're dissecting it, and for good reason -- some of our best content comes from games that either aren't very good, or aren't easily approached due to language barriers.

tl;dr: There's content, someone really oughta look at it eventually. Quit arguing and move on.

An extremely literal translation would be: "At this time we would like to thank you sincerely for purchasing T.M.N.T. 2: The Manhattan Project by Konami."

The first line of the Japanese text corresponds to the phrases "at this time" and "by Konami" in the above sentence. Please don't assume Google Translate is correct, especially with Japanese.

I wouldn't use such a literal translation in most cases, though. I'd choose something much more natural-sounding, such as the current translation on the wiki.

For those interested in the mechanics of this sentence -- or how Google Translate is generally a terrible choice, especially when it comes to Japanese -- I wanna split this up a little. (Also I'm really tired and this looked like something fun to do.)

このたびは、コナミの
"Kono tabi wa" is literally "at this time." "Konami no" is "Konami" followed by "no," which is a possessive particle.
T・M・N・T・2

-ザ マンハッタン プロジェクト-
TITLE OF THE GAME

を、おかいあげいただきまして、
"wo" is the particle used for verbing things. "Okaiageitadakimashite" is the verb for "to buy" sandwiched between a lot of really polite word attachments to inform the purchaser exactly how grateful Konami is, followed by "te", which changes "okaiageitadakimasu" into the gerund form of "okaiageitadakimashite," coupling it to the next sentence.

まことに、ありがとうございます。
"makoto ni" is essentially another intensifier -- "really," "truly," "sincerely," words like that. the last part, "arigatou gozaimasu" is "Thank you."

Now, if you put that together in literal translation, it'll look like a mess. "At this time, Konami's "TMNT: The manhattan project" you bought our humble game sincerely thank you so much." That isn't really legible. So, you rephrase and rework and make it make sense. And that was way too much Japanese information in one post, but I felt like explaining. Derp.

They did indeed totally rewrite it in Japanese. Not going through the whole ordeal, but, the last few lines?

"リンクよ…
ゼルダ姫をお救いするのだ。
それが、ナイトの一族さだめ
された運命…

だが…運命に…まけ…るな…。

…リンク…。
お前とくらした…日々は…
たのし…かった…ぞ…。"

"Link...
You have to save Princess Zelda.
That's our family's destiny as knights. (this is a little loose -- the literal is like "That's the destiny of the members of the family of knights.")
But don't... don't succumb ... to fate...

...Link...
I'll... always cherish
the time... we had to... ge... ther... (Literally: "Link, the time we spent together... it... was fun...")

AND THEN HE DIES.

But yeah, Nintendo totally rewrote it in Japanese, and did a perfectly good job translating it.

Can't understand how they got "Zelda is your" out of "omae wa, zeruda-hime no..." (You are Zelda's...), though. Someone had his particles switched.

y'all need to step up your games and vote for Hubrecht. He's Mr. Heart from Hokuto no Ken, and Aino Heart from Arcana Heart, rolled up into one big, cuddly grab character, which this game oh so desperately needs. No, Cerebella doesn't count, she's not Giefy enough.

Hi there! You seem to be confused and think you're the moderator.

You're not.

That being said, as the moderator: The stuff about the totally-destroyed Lufia proto is off-topic, no matter how insanely stupid the handling of the entire ordeal was. Not that it helps much, because when you actually look at what *IS* on-topic...

...the amount of information you can glean from screenshots of maps is incredibly tiny. Without someone who knows what they're doing combing through the ROM, the only information you're going to have is "well, the map looks slightly different." You won't know if there's unused text strings, you won't know if there's dummied-out graphics data, you won't know a lot of things. An eventual release is really the only hope of actual documentation -- screenshots of something that we can't actually verify are just going to languish in the forum.

Stop waving your screenshots around showing us what we cannot have, due to the sick pleasure you get out of hoarding these roms and getting everyone else to do the dirty work without giving anything back in return.

You disgust me.

I appreciate your frustration, but personal attacks aren't necessary.

If this thread keeps descending into stupid, I'm gonna have to close it. It's not really helping the wiki -and- it's generally bringing out the worst in people.

Last chance, guys -- sort it out or stuff it.

It depends on how it is done. What I would say is not to do the videos in the style DYKG does it which is to have a whole string of facts in a video. A video isn't a substitute for a nicely written article. Instead they would be videos showcasing one specific fact. A lot of the videos I have posted on TWW page are just that. They showcase something specific and they are generally short. A whole collection of videos from different games in a format like that would not be ripping off DYKG. With a pool of such videos then perhaps you could attract a bigger audience Xkeeper.

I was thinking of suggesting this, myself. Videos that highlight things like debug menus or byzantine secrets that require absurd method of access (hi, Erina to Satoru no Yume Bouken!). Not rapid-fire "facts" that are of questionable accuracy, but straightforward videos that serve as introductions or guides to specific things on the wiki.

I need to actually... pay more attention to AC. D: The last time I played was over a week and a half ago, and now the only reason why I haven't played is because I'm dreading the inevitable cleanup and missing townspeople. AC is great until you fall behind, and then it's just... blargh.

I'm honestly wondering if I won't lose any townspeople if I totally defeat the spirit of things and wind time back, and then just do quick bursts of repairs and slowly move time forwards. I might try that this afternoon, go full damage-control mode.

Sorry for the brief/short-notice post (it's in two days), but is anyone going to Otakon? Me and my Flint costume are gonna be there all weekend. I had no idea I was going until last month, and was meaning to create a topic sooner, but... Well, here we are, me on an MTA bus to Brooklyn going "shit, I forgot to thread."

tl;dr: if you're going to otakon and want to tcrf/jul meetup, post here/pm me.
