If you need "more confirmation" that Capcom's staff are a bunch of dorks that hide various Japanese pop culture stuff in the data of their games, you don't need to look much further than Megaman Legends 2.

As for the identity of the character in that image: Speaking as Jul's resident Kamen Rider expert, that is most definitely Colonel Zol. It's been years since I played X4, but if there's some sort of evil/villainous military figure in X4, then this was probably used as his character portrait in development, considering Zol is a pretty evil military dude.

I love Miyamoto. I love everything he does from a game design perspective. That said, when it comes to adding/removing story from games, I want him kept far, far away. He apparently pitched a fit over the inclusion of Rosalina's Storybook in SMG1, which was easily the best (and only) attempt at a story in a "main-series" Mario game. It was actually really, really refreshing. So, it isn't allowed. D: I rage.

I actually got one a few days after launch, but school's been really harsh so I haven't had much time to waste on it.

My impressions and tips are as follows:

1: NSMBU is probably the best New Super Mario Bros game ever. From a design perspective, it feels like a logical extension to the developments that SMW made on the series. Like, if Mario never went 3D with 64. this is the kind of game I'd expect to see. Also, 5 player NSMW is amazingly funny, especially when the person with the least patience is on Boost Mode trying to corral everyone the right way with blocks. ("It's like driving a bus full of hyperactive children to a supermarket." - my friend) Also, challenge mode is great and I plan on posting videos later.

2: Nintendoland deserves more bullet points, but I haven't had as much time to invest in it. Also, I've only played multiplayer games on 5-player, so my impressions are for full houses only.
A: Luigi's Mansion is really really tense. The ghost hunters' wiimotes vibrate when the ghost is near. So you can do dirty things like park on the opposite side of a wall and cause them to freak out thinking you're gonna come up and grab them.
B: Mario Chase is the best clusterfuck game of tag ever. Four toads trying to run down Mario. As the round goes on, the toads start running faster than Mario, so it gets really, really intense trying to dodge their tackles.
C: The weird Donkey Kong maze thing has the best tutorial text ever, and I will share it when I have more time.

3: "oh god updates suck, they're so big and you can't do anything while they download" is totally wrong. Whenever the system says "There is an update available, download it now?", if you pick "no," the system will background-download it. So when your first big bad update comes up, just hit "not right now" and play your wii for an hour or two. The big scary update will go on without you behind the scenes. When you restart the system, the system update will take 5-10 minutes, but it's better than idly waiting for 2 hours for it to download when you could've been playing your heart out. This goes for any and every update the system has, whether it be for your games, your system, or your applications.

Also, I believe I'm Rahan on miiverse, so add me if you feel like seeing my stupid drawings in NSMBU.

I translated the first three episodes of Daisentai Goggle V for hikari-senshi, and I approve of this thread.

Not enough Rider, though. (i'll edit this later with CONTENT)

Here's a tiny Street Fighter x Megaman minireview before I head off to do finals: The soundtrack is amazing. Like, holy shit, I want that soundtrack all the time forever. And good on Capcom for helping a fangame actually get some exposure.

Next time they should actually give them some game design pointers, though. The stage design is flat-out balls, and some of the enemies are ridiculously stupid. I also don't recall Megaman games A: putting you in a situation where you cannot react to a hazard without due warning, or B: severely punishing you for exploring. Dhalsim's stage does both.

Related to Dhalsim's stage: the annoying flying purple dudes that teleport and shit out 8 projectiles? I did not need three of them in one fucking room, thank you very much.

Gonna do some disassembly, then try to make this a working sentence:
Norowareshi Dead River - the accursed Dead River
imanao - yet still/even still
noroi wo tokumono machiwabiru kawa - the curse waits impatiently for a special thing (at the river)/(I wonder?).

At the accursed Dead River,
the foul magic that taints
the water lies in wait,
thirsting for an offering.

That's a nice, loose translation assuming that her "kawa" is the river. If that makes sense in context, I'd run with it. :o

Thanks, but that's about as much sense as I made, which is not much... And I am not looking for a poem to replace the text. I am looking for understanding.

I wasn't offering a poem, I was offering a translation that, based on the context given and the text's reading, both makes sense and is readable without accounting for things like character limits or text box sizes. Due to the extreme ambiguity in the word placement (is "kawa" on a newline because it's over the character limit and supposed to be a particle, or is it on a newline because it's a seperate word?), you have to take the risk and interpret the text as well as you are able, regardless of the author's hazy intent, which means making decisions that some would regard as "taking liberties with the text."

All of that said, I did a quick google search and I found this:

(...)「呪われしデッドリバー、今なお呪いを解く者待ちわびる川」(...)

A Japanese gamer interpreted that "kawa" as "川", solving the ambiguity to some degree. Make of that what you will.

Thanks. Still, I was not looking for a translation. That part of the process is mine to take, and it depends on available constraints in target media, once I understand the original sentence to begin with.
No, I sought the understanding of how the sentence is constructed and on its grammatical sense.

I understand. Just, as a translator -- and in a thread called "Any Japanese text need translating?" -- there's a bit of a natural compulsion to look at the words and translate. Little nuggets of dialogue are like puzzles that beg to be solved.

(Also, I apologize for being a little bit grumpy in my response. It's been a long month, and the way I responded seems a lot harsher than it needs to be, and I'm really sorry about that. D: )
