School, mostly. I check the board daily, usually several times. Just, with a five-day really weird school schedule (and tons of Japanese homework), but I keep failing to find time to actually post things. D: The small bursts of thought don't feel adequate, usually.

Hey, everyone. I looked around, and I'm pretty sure there isn't a topic quite like this on the forum, so I'm gonna start it: We're gonna talk games, as one is wont to do on the Games forum. The twist? We're gonna talk games that we love -- doesn't matter if it's console, PC, mobile. AAA or kusoge, it's all welcome here, provided you can give a good "why". There's something about hearing people talk about what makes their game special to them -- it feels good to see someone be so happy with a game, even if it's a game I don't personally like.

So, to start us off, I'm gonna talk about Monster Party. Why Monster Party? Because it was one of the first NES games I ever got when I was a kid, and it really sticks with me. The fact that a game can be so unabashedly, consistently weird still surprises me to this day. Where else can you fight a piece of shrimp tempura that turns into an onion ring that turns into yakitori? Or how about watching two zombies dance to taiko music? It's beautiful. It's weird, freaky, horrible, and beautiful. That, and probably the most shocking ending next to Adolph Hitler's exploding head in Bionic Commando.

These two posts, these are the kind of things that make me feel good as a gamer. I want to see everyone gush about things, no matter how inane or silly you might feel it is.

To hook onto Zero-One: My favorite Metroid game is actually Fusion. Fusion gave me a lot of hope that Nintendo could successfully integrate a decent narrative in my Metroid games, and I really liked it. If Other-M were better-written, it might've actually been an amazing game, what with the foundations Fusion set. (Who else would like to see Fusion-suit samus again, considering that the suit should, for all intents and purposes, be part of her body?)

I like the Super Metroid genre in general, come to think of it. Games like Shadow Complex (best Metroid game in the past 5 years) and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (best Metroid-esque game not made by Nintendo, possibly best Metroid game ever) just totally devour my time. ESPECIALLY Symphony of the Night. I think I've played that damn game for like two or three hundred hours, split across PSX and Saturn. There's so many ways to approach everything -- do you go with finding the most hideously broken gear you can (Hello, Shield Rod + Alucard Shield or dual Crissaegrim) and roflstomp the game in a hurry, or do you try wacky ideas (like leveling up your Muramasa to 999 ATK) and have fun with it? So many self-induced challenges, and yet it manages to consistently stay fresh and entertaining.

Masked Rider #1! Except with a cheaper mask and the wrong belt. I'll be a warrior of justice... on a budget!

A little thing while I try to go to sleep -- I'm planning on responding to a few people with questions, but this is just a little personal gaming-vent.

NiGHTS got rereleased on PSN the other day, and I've been replaying it and listening to the soundtrack, and I stumbled onto Growing Wings. Then, probably my most vivid memory of the game came back -- playing Twin Seeds. For a game that is totally devoid of actual narrative, that stage had more storytelling in it than was really necessary.

Going to the thing to switch to Nights like in every other level, getting knocked back what felt like millions of miles away from him onto a little island... and for a moment, being very scared. You have no Ideya, you have no path, all you have is this little rock and really creepy music to keep you company. So what do you do, after you pace around for a little bit?

You jump. Then, the soundtrack swells, and holy crap, you can FLY. No Nights needed! And then you save him and beat the last boss and idgaf I WAS FLYING.

Just a little moment that makes me feel really happy about the game. More comments to come... later. D:

How did you fix this?
Imported missing enemy encounter lists from the American ROM.

Wait, what? I understand the concept of using the final version to try to bridge the gaps after such a magnificent show of incompetence in the dumping process, but... why the American version?

If you're restoring the prototype, wouldn't the Japanese version -- that came out a year and six months before the American version -- be a better choice, as it might actually have lingering data in it that the US version doesn't?

Well, that's an unusually harsh statement.

IIMarckus: I appreciate your concerns, but the argument you're having right now has no place in this thread, or even this subforum.

Here is the Help/Suggestions forum, which may better suit the disagreement you're having. I don't want a thread that's been a particularly useful resource for forumgoers to be derailed like this.
