| It'll probably be as popular as frames are in five years time, or it will be properly regulated or replaced by Adobe and Microsoft's client-side technologies. The trouble is that most people are taking a scatter-gun approach with Ajax right now, and it's getting applied in ways that it's really not suited. I certainly hope it gets replaced, I can't imaging writing half a site's source code in Javascript. That doesn't bare thinking about. |

| I think it's a good idea as a new forum, but not for a Adult / Femine style forum. There can be enough ignorance in there at times without giving free reign for a scattergun of opinion. |

| What's the point though? How will it benefit a Femine-style forum? I don't understand why we don'y just do both... |

| An Anonyforum and an XXkeeper's or Ranko's Forum, as it were. Just not one and the same, keep the profiles and identities for the later. |

Originally posted by neotransotaku Absolutely, I think I remember a Digg engineer claiming that the new commenting systems introduced as much Javascript code as PHP. That's really frightening. Javascript was never meant to build enitre interfaces, using it to do so is a hacky solution whichever way you look at it. Frameworks like JQuery make it tolerable and workable, but Javascript is aging and was designed for an internet where text and images were the height of your concerns. Citing separation of concerns and modularity is stupid as well, especially when some people are quick to ignore the essential back / forward / refresh mechanisms. Incidentally, there is a solution to the back/forward/refresh issue, but it's another hacky fix. Using hidden iFrames, you can still have traditional browser navigation in the background. If you're a professional software engineer, you really shouldn't be considering this kind of design, regardless of what it can do. If you really can't do without a more dynamic design, you should be using Flash instead. The usability of some pieces of AJAX software are neglected in favour for eye-candy and silly toys. There is a time and a place for AJAX, but it's in small, neat touches for the classic webapp format. |

I'd be pleased with just the one ...Wouldn't mind a Golf GTI. Parking is very exprensive where I live, and can be difficult to find. I'd probably be in the market for a GTI if I moved to a place further outside Sheffield... If I had much more money, I'd definately buy a Honda S2000... I'm looking to buy a 125 motorcycle this year, so I can ride to work and still park it for free. My first choice is a Yamaha Dragstar... ![]() ... But again, if I had the money, I would buy a big BMW tourer, like this... ![]() |

| Speaking of DRM on obsolete games, EA released Command and Conquer as a free download. You can get the ISOs for each disc, for free. I'm not sure if it's a limited time download, though. linkie |

| And if one service starts charging, they all will to remain competitive. I don't have enough money to pay for one premium network, let alone several different competing ones. The net ecosystem must remain unbiased and free. |

| I'm going to do my adopted hometown, Sheffield- which has kept me for the last four years of university life. Reading doesn't have much to talk about, other than being biscuit town and giving the world Kate Winslet and Ricky Gervais. Here goes... Sheffield is well known for two things- steel and The Full Monty, set in Sheffield when the steel factories started to close: The Full Monty Famous Sheffield sons: ![]() Michael Palin, made famous by Monty Python's Flying Circus, the film A Fish Called Wanda and documentary Around the World in Eighty Days and Full Circle ![]() Sean Bean, made famous by TV show Sharpe, film The Lord of the Rings and imortalised as Alec Trevelyan in the film and videogame Goldeneye. Big fan of the Blades (aka Sheffield United Football Club), whose ground is just five minutes walk from me ![]() And for fans of the band Muse, you might recognise the sight of The Roxy, which still stands on Arundel Gate. The photo of this club was used for the album art of the band's album Origin of Symmetry: ![]() You do yours, too ![]() |

Some of the features are, well, nice, but isn't the integrity and stability of your forum more important? There are loads of PHP-based forums out there that you could use, the majority of which would give you much less of a headache. If you don't want to fix things yourself, you're going to have to make some compromises. And yeah, PHP, Python, Ruby on Rails, they're all good ways to begin a forum project. I'd recommend going with PHP, as it's more freely available and more flexible. The rapid development stuff in Django and Rails is very nice, but PHP is more hands-on and less controlling. But if you're really insane, there's always Perl... |

...You could go even further and say that "accidents" are impossible ![]() But hey, I honestly had no plan to call bullshit in this gay rights argument. ![]() BBC News It seems as though as the donation wasn't made through a donation clinic, rather as a friend through unofficial means. He isn't protected through the law as it stands. The only assurance he was given was a promise, and that it's been revoked. Ugh. |
