The palm trees are outdoors, so there's that.

One nice thing about these lights is that they're a lot less expensive to run; the Hue that replaced the can light in the dining room yesterday is a whole 6W, while the original was 65...

Finally I can pester people less about their lights being left on all the time

At least some part of Ragnarok Online lives on to this day. (Yes, I know it still exists.)

A really basic slider for master, music, SFX, and voice really shouldn't be that hard, and it's really frustrating when they aren't, especially if the SFX are really loud.

On that note, how about games that don't have subtitles at all?

The DS remake also has a much more limited set of controls (UDLR) than analog input. Unless you used that wacky, awkward, useless... touchscreen... thing. Blech.

I don't know about that; the way I felt after the 2016 elections here, any amount of drinking would have probably ended very badly. I already felt sick enough as it was.

I haven't actually had any real drinks in a long time, at least 8 or 9 years. The most I'll go for these days is a yearly Mike's Hard Lemonade, which isn't even enough to get buzzed, but even then I haven't touched that stuff in two years.

Posted on 02-25-18 11:57:12 PM, in Monetization in games Link
I feel like monetization has gotten out of control in the last few years; rather than making games that are genuinely good or fun to play, gated behind some paid amount, it feels like almost every game these days has some awful scheme to rip people off embedded in it. Mobile games are especially bad about this; I have had a few games from before that were a few dollars to get and then provided a casual play experience that I could pick up or put down at any time, but now it's been locked behind paywalls engineered to remove people from their money.

Worse, these schemes are working really well, fed by "whales" (people who spend tons of money on these games), especially with gacha (random-chance) events and other garbage ... It's to the point that I'm starting to worry that the traditional style of game will be going away, in favor of these awful things. This is already happening with some of the major AAA studios, because they're always in search of more profit, but... oof.

I don't really know what can be done about this other than some form of legislation, and even then it's obvious that companies subjected to it are finding any loophole they can to get out of it; Blizzard's Hearthstone workarounds in China makes for a good example.

Balls of Fury.

That movie was actually so bad that the number of movies I watched per year went from about 2 or 3 to a flat zero.

I can do that, but from outside the house, too! The future is now.

I think that a lower wattage also helps with heat issues, since any decrease in that is a godsend, especially given how hot it's going to be in a few months...

I'm going to try opening the blinds a little (so more light shows through) and then figuring out a way to get all the bulbs to start cycling; a rainbow through the windows, if you will.

Setting them all red is already kind of interesting

Posted on 02-27-18 12:18:11 PM, in well, well, well... if it isn't some kind of FASHION THREAD Link
I am really boring, because I have basically one look, ever:

• a generic t-shirt, either solid black or one of the Undertale delta-rune designs from Fangamer
• black pants
• crappy old shoes from years ago

I deviate from this basically never, unless I'm at home where it's usually a crappier worn-out t-shirt and shorts.

I have just never really put much thought into "fashion"

Oh, right, wine. I think having a (small) glass of wine is probably the least offensive way to have alcohol, and I've had that myself a few times (but again, over 11 years ago now; don't tell anyone )

But that particular thing has been spoiled for me by people who very much abused that concept
