(Instead of talking about aspects of systems (accessories, the system itself) in general threads, why not have threads for each system. We can use these threads to talk about the system in general, and trouble shoot help and so on.)

(...but this could be talked about in the old school systems thread....)

So I'm currently on my 3rd Ps2 system. My first one would only read one or two games. And when I beat KH on it, the ending was soooo laggy, that it took twice as long to watch it.

I used to play DVDs in my 1st Ps2, which caused the eye to go berserk and it would only read certain formatted discs before it finally died.

2nd Ps2 had no problems, I just wanted a thin model and I switched my old one out.

I'm on my only one, a slim model.

Things run really well, except for one problem. When I try to set it up for online play (the phone line's clear, mind you), it chokes on access numbers. Most puzzling is that I get them just fine on the PC, and that I'm using the AOL utility included with the PS2.

I'll try it tomorrow, but... any idea what the sissue might be?

Slim model with memory card exploits.

At this stage of the system's lifespan, it's a great thing to have even if I'll probably never have the time to finish all these games.

You know, I was just recently thinking of figuring out how to use said exploits. It'd be nice to play SNES games on the actual television again...

The PS2 over here is dead. It won't read any games at all, the other one we have only plays PS1 games.

It'd be nice to get one of them running so I can borrow some games from a friend.

I had an original PS2, but I sold it a few years back. I managed to get a new one this December (phat, not slim) for my girlfriend. Have no games yet. I got a list though, money issues holding me back from buying anything at the moment.

I've got a 30001 (bulky model) and a 77001 (slim). They're both still active in their use but the bulky model fails at playing CD media (i.e. PS1/PS2 blue/CD Audio) and it really slow on the pickup for DVD media. Ironically, however, it's better at playing DVDs than the slim model ever could be...so I take it for what it's worth.

Not to mention, both are going into a switch, with the PS3, that leads into a TV out box SLASH my 450W 2.1 system which leads to the computer. So if I want sound, I need the comp on at all times.

Less of a hassle than you think.

We have a switch, too (PC/TV/Wii/PS2), though it just goes straight to the TV...

Thoughtless: Good thing is, since the PS2 is dying, a lot of old games out there can probably be found on the cheap.

Yeah, those input switches are a godsend.

I don't actually have my own PS2, despite owning a few games. I need to steal my sister's console again and finish FF12.

Ugh...FF XII...that's a game I don't ever foresee myself finishing. There's been a mild nagging sensation as of late to finish it but I've got better I could finish (i.e. Ar tonelico II, Persona 3, Persona 4...).

Also...I my Logitech Wirless controller. Bought it and a pair of 40 AAs about a year and a half or two years ago and only now am I running close to being out of batteries and this over HEAVY use...

It's really tempting to get a PS2.. there are quite a few games on it that interest me (around 13, more than the other consoles (Xbox/PS3 in particular) have), and the backwards compatibility to PS1 would be nice to have, too, since my PS1 is broken and I still have quite a few of these games.

They don't sell for much on Amazon and eBay, too.

Too bad I don't have the money for it right now, but if I'm getting a new console, it's definitely going to be this one.

And the thing is...it's still getting milked for what it's worth, much like the PSX was when the PS2 came out. It'll probably be going strong for at least this year if not the next before it crashes out.

And I'm sure it's been going almost a decade for its console use after that point. I'd still rather play this than the PS3 for the most part.

I stole PS2 from a friend, he hasn't used it for quite long time now. Bashing Kingdom Hearts through, but I'd still want to play (and finish) FF9 someday.

FF12... Boring game imo. Gambits just make the game too automatic.

That's what I've heard... although, granted, actually coding a bot can be a bit fun, but when it utterly removes all the game from the, well, game...

I dunno, for all of the previous FF games you just had to mash "Fight" for most of the game and it could do it.

Well, yeah, but even then you still required some form of input unless you were completely overleveled, and bosses might still need strategy.

Being able to autoselect Fight isn't the same as being able to tell the game how to beat itself

Yeah and there's some enemies that would be a total waste of time since they only take 1 HP damage from weapons...

I'd like to see someone code a bot or LUA script for auto-playing Final Fantasy (NES). Hey, there's bots out there for Nethack so...
