I see there's no SMW Hacking forum here, so I figured I could release this demo here. Go ahead and move it if I missed the appropriate forum.

Anyway, I posted this on AB2, but since 75% of people had already left, there were no real responses. Basically, this hack uses the same concept as Donkey Kong '94, where you need to get the key to the keyhole - but for the most part, the levels act more like the original SMW levels with puzzle solving. People have said the first ten or so levels are rather short, and yes, I know. I had intended this because it is the first world

Oh, and it has completely custom music, all created and ported by me through means of the inserter - the first released hack to have it completely custom, as far as I know, so that's a plus

The top 2 pipes well, don't look good there (they look like they don't really go into the ground)

Uh, they're just standing there. The same force keeping the ? blocks in the air keeps the pipes from falling over.

Well, just finished playing the demo.

It's a cool concept and the custom music is pretty awesome.

A couple of things feel rough, though.

In a couple of places, such as the ghost house / fortress / thing, it's possible to drop essential items off the left or right of the screen. This is frustrating.

The bonus level leaves no visible sign that you can't re-enter it- You might want to make it disappear if you don't want them to be able to use it again. Also luck-based bonuses suck. I'd rather my reward depend on skill. You can also see the 1-up mushrooms and part of the platforms during the level fade-out.

You can see part of the bushes in Legato Highlands during the fade-out.

It says Time Up! when you die.

In many cases, there isn't much chance of being able to finish a level after you've been hit and lost your mushroom or whatever. I suggest using custom blocks to make Mario change powerups (so that you don't lose powerups permanently) or maybe just making him die in one hit all the time, regardless of powerup level. Actually that could be pretty annoying, I dunno if you'd actually want to do that.

Anyway, I like the idea and you have some good levels going, so keep it up!

Heh, most of those issued were brought up to me already actually except the bonus level one. Almost all of the bonus games in other Mario games were luck based though (the original SMW 3-block game, SMB3s Toad Houses) I do see where you're coming from though, so I'll look into it.

(and you know, I almost swore that I fixed the Time Up! message. I guess I was wrong.)

Speaking of custom blocks that change powerups around, I did make one that stored your current powerups and one that retreived them.

They're on my old computer, don't ask me for them.

Though if it will be useful in your hack, I'd be glad to take some time to write it back up.

If Hyperhacker would point me to his sounds list anyways

I liked this hack. The only flaws I could detect were the constant "TIME UP"'s and the fact you can get rid of the trampoline in the Bonus Challenge.

Grey Mario: That would be very useful - it's a shame you don't have it. Actually, come to think of it .. is there an offset which controls whether the item will drop from the reserve when Mario gets hit or not? If I could stop it from falling, that would be useful.

Raccoon Sam: Seriously, I really don't understand why the Time Up is still appearing - I fixed it like five times. Meh :\

SNN, SMW Central's ROM Map might have something on that if you can stand the stupidity long enough...

Heh, I've been posting on SMW Central lately, helping people learn how to work with custom music. I'm just getting upset at how I have to repeat myself 600 times

I was actually thinking a block that had a permanent power-up might work better (as in, a ? block that has an unlimited amount of flowers/mushrooms/etc in it) I don't know if that would completely overpower the player though, but...eh. Just a random thought

The novel gameplay and music made for a fresh experience. Nice hack. A permanent powerup block would be great. Losing your flower or something and having to fall down a pit is pretty frustrating. Personally I don't think it would overpower the player all that much, aslong as they have to work a bit to get back to the power up.

Played this through with Bloodstar. I found a few errors and glitches, nothing really killing. But overall, great hack. I rarely play hacks anymore...
